The floxie community recently lost two of its strongest advocates—Dr. David Flockhart and Dr. Jay S. Cohen. Both Dr. Flockhart and Dr. Cohen are missed and the fluoroquinolone-affected community is mourning their loss.

Fluoroquinolone toxicity is under-acknowledged. Many (too many) physicians aren’t aware of any of the side-effects of fluoroquinolones, much less that they can cause multi-symptom, chronic illness. Both Dr. Flockhart and Dr. Cohen not only acknowledged the pain that people dealing with fluoroquinolone toxicity experience, they treated floxed patients and advocated on behalf of people who have been hurt by these drugs.

Dr. David Flockhart:

Dr. Flockhart treated and cared for hundreds of patients who were dealing with fluoroquinolone toxicity. He was kind, generous, thoughtful, and attentive. He not only treated people who were dealing with fluoroquinolone toxicity, he also advocated on their behalf. Dr. Flockhart spoke out about the dangerous effects of fluoroquinolones in many interviews and he encouraged others to acknowledge fluoroquinolone toxicity as well.

Dr. Jay S. Cohen

Dr. Cohen also cared for hundreds of patients who were affected by fluoroquinolone toxicity. He published many groundbreaking articles about fluoroquinolone toxicity, including “Peripheral Neuropathy Associated with Fluoroquinolones” which was published in The Annals of Pharmacotherapy in 2001. Dr. Cohen published the book, “How We Can Halt The Cipro & Levaquin Catastrophe: The Worst Medication Disaster In U.S. History” in 2015. Links to many of his other articles can be found on his web site, www.medicationsense.com. Dr. Cohen was a powerful advocate for those hurt by fluoroquinolones and his work is appreciated by many.

My sincere condolences to the families and loved ones of both Dr. Flockhart and Dr. Cohen. The loss of both of these upstanding gentlemen and outstanding doctors is mourned by all whom they touched—and they both touched the lives of many.
