Ben’s Story – Levaquin Adverse Reaction
I was an avid hiker and then, in 2009, I had a small cyst removed from my back. I took one levaquin pill and the next morning woke up to the most terrifying physical state of my life. I dealt with many symptoms including muscle twitches, fatigue, dizziness heart issues, muscle/joint problems, gastro-intestinal pain/problems. The doctors couldn’t help so I took care of myself with nutrition as best I could. I ate all natural (antibiotic free) meats, spinach, blueberries, yogurt etc. I can no longer have alcohol sugar, coffee or other stimulants and my diet is fairly restricted. I have bouts of sickness when I eat the wrong foods or encounter strong chemical smells. I damaged my knee on an early hike as I was recovering, but with God’s grace I was able to recover enough to enjoy hiking again. I have achieved some big hiking goals climbing to many mountaintops in the past 3 years. I realize I will never be the same as I was but the hardships I went through gave me perspective on life and set my priorities straight. Your mountains/goals might not be as big as mine, but find something you have a passion for and pursuit it. I hope and pray for all of you who have had negative encounters with these or any other prescription drugs. My only words of advice would be to hold strong to your faith and take care of your body through nutrition/exercise, you are still in control of what you do.
The photo was taken on Mt. Skylight, my 46th Adirondack High Peak in NY state’s Eastern High Peaks Wilderness in Sept. 2012. I feel blessed at the recovery I’ve had and would like to be able to encourage those in their recovery.
Lisa’s note – I reached out to Ben after reading his story on the Facebook Fluoroquinolone Wall of Pain and asked him how he was doing. He added that he has had some ups and downs in his health status, but that, “I am still in a much better physical state overall compared to the first 6 months of my illness as far as recovery goes. We can’t control our suffering but we can learn from it and grow through it. I’ve learned priorities and thank God for every day. I truly desire that those affected aren’t suffering without any hope. Thank you for your work to bring some level of comfort and direction to those affected. God Bless.”

OUR STORIES NEED TO BE HEARD, Dan
I’m 13 years out now. I started swimming laps again. Making sure there’s no chlorine in the pool It burns off quickly and it’s only used by my immediate family therefore no concern of illness. My shoulders were terribly torn up. Repaired and torn. I’m in pain anyways might as well build up my strength and muscles as much as possible.. I was told my teeth were soft ? Never in my life had a dentist told me that. Sure enough I’ve been having issues with my teeth. I actually had a primary tooth that was never replaced with an adult tooth. Two years ago I woke up with it cracked. It didn’t hurt just gone. I had the edge of a back molar break also a top one. Wondering if anyone else has been having these problems with their teeth ? My belief is because I was totally unaware of what was happening to me from 2007 – 2011 My vitamin and mineral levels were depleted and than began taking the calcium and whatever else possible to keep my body going. I’ve gotten all my vitamin and mineral levels back to normal through subliguals taken twice daily at first now every few days for the past 4 years. I have bloodwork done quarterly. Being this keeps us from absorbing nutrients thats also the reason for the weight loss. I was going to the gym and walking 2 miles daily when I first took levequin. Therefore I expected the weight loss. Than the one day I couldn’t pick up my head. That was when my search began. Back than because of ” lawsuits” people were told not to speak about it. Imagine how many people could have been avoided being FLOXED if others like US warned people any way ? I still tell anyone who will listen. I love when they say oh I know that’s bad stuff. Also it seems to be lots of you younger Drs KNOW along with the one’s who actually continually update themselves about side effects being reported. My endocrinologist knew about it Five years ago. Said Ohh noo those are ” Big Guns” I also know of a few people who say they ” take it all the time ” as in a few times a year for simple infections. I believe once we ingest this it’s there. Once we totally STOP taking it is when it starts to tear us up. Than we do everything possible to build ourselves back up. STILL so a angry when I SEE others just being FLOXED. There’s absolutely positively NO reason for anyone else to have to endure this. Still have gut issues but one day at a time. Best of health to you all on your journey back to your healthiest possible you. ✌

Best of health to you all on your journey back to your healthiest possible you. ✌ I also don’t believe anyone truly ever heals. Especially when they’re still trying to figure out exactly how it was able to cause so much damage to so many different body parts. Effecting the mitochondria. ? We can heal parts at a time. I believe it takes a long time to get completely healed. Also depends on how bad we each were effected. Lots of physical effects a few. The neuropathy and different types. Still trying to get better instead of allowing it to get the better of us. Is a start. I wish I could have known immediately what was happening to me. Perhaps I wouldn’t have had so many side effects.
