Floxie Hope

This site is to give HOPE to those who are suffering from Fluoroquinolone Toxicity Syndrome as a result of being poisoned by fluoroquinolone antibiotics – Cipro, Levaquin, Avelox, Floxin, etc.  It contains stories of healing.

Cipro, Levaquin, Avelox and all other fluoroquinolones are dangerous drugs that can have devastating effects that cumulatively I’ll refer to as Fluoroquinolone Toxicity Syndrome or Floxing.  Fluoroquinolone Toxicity Syndrome/Floxing includes damage to connective tissue (tendons, ligaments, cartilage, fascia, etc.) throughout the body, damage to the nervous systems (central, peripheral and autonomic), and more. The damage done by fluoroquinolone antibiotics can destroy a person’s quality of life or even kill them. Certainly, there is a time and a place for drugs with dangerous side effects. If you find yourself in a septic shock induced coma, fluoroquinolones may save your life. Unfortunately, these drugs are not being reserved for life or death situations. People are being prescribed them for urinary tract infections, suspected prostate infections, upper respiratory infections, as a prophylactic for travelers’ diarrhea, ear infections, pink eye, etc. Thousands of people have suffered needlessly from the devastating effects of fluoroquinolone antibiotics, when another, safer antibiotic could have, and should have, been used.

The damage done by fluoroquinolones is largely unacknowledged by the medical establishment and an accurate diagnosis, compensation and relief are difficult to come by. There is no known cure for Fluoroquinolone Toxicity Syndrome/Floxing.  However, many people continue to LIVE after being poisoned by fluroquinolones.  They find healing, recovery, perseverance, compassion and hope.  These are their stories.

This site is meant to give hope for healing to those who are adversely effected by fluoroquinolones.  It is no way meant to disregard the pain of those who are chronically suffering from the horrifying effects of Cipro, Levaquin, Avelox or the other fluoroquinolones.  There are people who don’t recover.  Their stories are real and they matter.  There are also people who are able to recover and I share their stories with the hope that they inspire others, or at least give hope that recovery is possible.

Here is a New York Times article about the dangers of fluoroquinolone antibiotics – http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/09/10/popular-antibiotics-may-carry-serious-side-effects/?_r=0 – more news stories, research papers and other resources can be found on the “Links and Resources” page.

Neurontin and Lyrica are a Death Sentence for New Brain Synapses
    Wednesday, October 14, 2009
Byron J. Richards, Board Certified Clinical Nutritionist

Neurontin and its newer more potent version, Lyrica, are widely used for off-label indications that are an outright flagrant danger to the public. These blockbuster drugs were approved for use even though the FDA had no idea what they actually did in the brain. A shocking new study shows that they block the formation of new brain synapses1, drastically reducing the potential for rejuvenating brain plasticity – meaning that these drugs will cause brain decline faster than any substance known to mankind.

The problem of these drugs is compounded by their flagrant illegal marketing. Neurontin was approved by the FDA for epilepsy back in 1994. The drug underwent massive illegal off-label promotion that cost Warner-Lambert 430 million dollars (the very first big fine for off-label promotion). The drug is now owned by Pfizer. Pfizer also owns Lyrica, a super-potent version of Neurontin. It has been approved by the FDA for various types of pain and fibromyalgia. Lyrica is one of four drugs which a subsidiary of Pfizer illegally marketed, resulting in a $2.3 billion settlement against Pfizer.

Even though the marketing of these drugs has been heavily fined, they continue to rack up billions in sales from the off-label uses. Doctors use them for all manner of nerve issues because they are good at suppressing symptoms. However, such uses can no longer be justified because the actual mechanism of the drugs is finally understood and they are creating a significant long-term reduction in nerve health.

The researchers in the above study try to downplay the serious nature of the drugs by saying “adult neurons don’t form many new synapses.” That is simply not true. The new science is showing that brain health during aging relies on the formation of new synapses. Even these researchers managed to question the common use of these medications in pregnant women. How is a fetus supposed to make new nerve cells when the mother is taking a drug that blocks them?

These are the kind of situations the FDA should be all over. As usual, the FDA is sitting around pondering a suicide warning for Lyrica while its off-label uses include bi-polar disorder and migraine headaches. The FDA is likely to twiddle its thumbs for the next decade on the brain damage issue. Consumer beware.

These drugs are terrible and lyrica can cause cortical myoclonus a movement disorder.

I wasnon I.V.Levaquin for a wk for pneumonia along with I.V. Cortisone. No one warned me that the 2 are deadly given together. I also was sent home on both drugs in pill form. I was never asked nor told of any adverse effects. The day I came homen I went to go up the stairs, stepping up on my left leg which snappwd and then buckled. I was in terrible pain. I have had every symptom that those drugs cause. I had to have a biopsy of leg was told I had vasculitis. For the last 3 mths. Ive had huge hard swelling on lower legs rt. below my knee causing unbearable pain. Ive been ti pcp, endocrinologist, eye dr., rheumatologist and now a neurologist. I went from being active to sometimes bwdriden and now have to use walker, cane and sometimes a wheelchair. Im trying to find things that might help with the toxicity if anyone can help I would appreciate any suggestions.

Hey Ann—so sorry you’ve had to join the club that no one wants to be in. If you look at prior posts you will find a lot of info on what has helped different people. For me, I didn’t start healing until I stopped seeing MDs (12 of them of different types) and started getting IV nutrient therapy from a naturopath. I got H2O2 (so I could get off asthma meds, but also bathes your cells in oxygen), phosphatydilcholine which helps nerve damage, high dose vitamin C which helps rebuild collagen and Myers which has B vitamins, magnesium and antioxidants for over all health, nerves and more. With the exception of the H2O2 I got a push (like a shot) of glutathione with all the others. I would say the most important things to do immediately are: increase your intake of magnesium, the most bioavailable you can find (and stay away from citrate–too much will give you diahreah); STOP drinking tap water. Get bottled spring water, or reverse osmosis with the good minerals put back in—no FLUORIDE. It is part of what makes these drugs so toxic. Get glutathion in IV or push if you can (oral is supposed to break down before it can get to where you need it.) Eat only organic (nongmo) and avoid gluten, sugar, soy…esp the gluten. THis stuff trashes your gut which is intimately linked to all body systems, including your immune system. If you post the area you live you might get some recommendations for a good naturopath or integrative doctor.

PHARMACY comes from the Greek word—Pharmakia which means POISON. Dr.’s tell you anything rather than admit you shouldnt have been given that drug and that could have been toxic with health problems. Dr. is afraid if anything is said there will be consequences.

    • Linda January 23, 2016 at 8:48 pm Reply

Yep! And sadly they all stick together. When I saw other doctors after the prescribing one they would say nothing bad about Cipro. Part of it was their belief but another part is not wanting to finger the prescribing doctor. I spent 20 minutes talking to my cardiologist (got pericardial effusion on top of the 30 side effects). He told me about his mother rupturing a tendon. I thought “finally, a doctor that understands!” The advice given for pericardia effusion is NSAIDs. I told him that of course I couldn’t take them because of the Cipro. He just nodded. Then when I saw the report he sent back to the cipro doc he said “refused NSAIDs.” Not a WORD about why and the Cipro.

to jason, i just read the floxie report of 2007. more doom and gloom. it seems that people with very little to moderate reaction after stopping this poison were more likely to deteriorate within a year. you have severe delayed reaction, severe acute. and intermediate reaction. people with muscle spasms and twiching along with neuro issues fared the worst? also listed severe reaction, intermediate reaction and mild. it looks as if i may be looking at a mess according to this report. i counted that i had about 21 symptoms not including the itching , prickling, tingling and stabbing pains and spasms. can you please interpret this report for me. i fall under severe and intermediate according to this report. is this report still valid today? still have bone popping and buzzing noises in my hands. thanks dan.

and or twiching symptoms fare the worst.

    • Linda January 24, 2016 at 8:46 pm Reply

I am sure Jason will give you more info, but til then do not stress about this. That report is inaccurate in SO many ways.Honestly, I think the people that fair the worst are those who go misdiagnosed for years, and during that time are given more drugs like steroids that exacerbate the situation. They also, during that time, not aware of what has happened or lacking any input as far as treatments, often go on to consume fluoridated water and other sources and don’t change their diet. Please don’t scare yourself because of this report.

      Hi Dan,

The Flox Report is a very good guide to the EXPERIENCE of a general floxing, that is IF it is interpreted/ used correctly. All too often though it is not, the introduction is COMPLETELY skipped not even glanced at as with all ‘ small print ‘ then it can be completely misinterpreted this is actually the most important part of the report .
The Flox report was written some years ago now , it has some very good information yes ,especially when it comes to the connective tissues describing the symptoms but it must NEVER be taken as set in stone. We have moved on a lot with our knowledge, we know far more now about this , The Flox report should NEVER be used as the ‘ bible of floxing ‘ , but should be incorporated & looked at with other sources of information also.

Please make sure if you have not done so you have read the introduction to the report where you will find the information stating exactly how the report should be used & interpreted , you will see that it is geared towards those with more damaging reactions , & myself, as someone who has been in this world for a very long while, having been floxed multiple times I can confirm that a person should NEVER try to put themselves into ANY category of floxing , this is impossible for a person to do, as we are all completely unique in our reaction, no two people are the same, even subsequent floxings in the same person can be completely. different. There is NO way to work out how a persons floxing will manifest itself over time.

The most accurate honest answer, I feel I can personally give when someone asks me how long will it take me to improve / potentially recover from this, which of course means different things to different people, ( & especially when it comes to our situation ) as someone who has been floxed 7 times , & eventually felt completely recovered from a very damaging first floxing despite not changing a thing as regards to diet supplements etc, as I had no idea what had happened to me at the time, then having been prescribed them not just once but twice subsequently, with NO noticeable reaction whatsoever, only when next prescribed them THEN to get hit again, & despite this past history eventually again improving, that time around 80% from etc, & who has been in our world almost as long as the FQs have, is in my opinion & experience ‘ how long is a piece of string ‘ .

Just checking in on you all. I hope your all healing as best possible, each day is a New day I am going into my tenth year of being “Floxed ” I am FAR from an expert on anything, I just learned to survive, barely but I am still here. I had no help in 2007 Nothing at all no online chats Nothing nada zip. I am thankful for finding you all here and since have been doing what you all are doing trying to find out what Works best for me, eases My symptoms as We are all so different. I say it each time I log in here I AM SO VERY SORRY THIS HAS HAPPENED TO YOU !! THESES FLUOROQUINOLONES NEED TO BE SHELVED YEARS AGO………. They are THE MOST POTENT DRUGS IN THEIR CLASS….. Nobody need any of them for a sinus infection or sore throat ear ache….. Ten years into this and it still angers me to the point of wanting to Scream. It hurts my heart knowing so many more people were HURT AFTER ME,AFTER ALL OF THE BLACK BOX WARNINGS ? What I really wanted to share today is a book by the Late Dr Jay S Cohen, he lived in Del Rae Ca and actually CARED about US, he was an Expert witness for not only the FDA but everyday people like ourselves . Dr Jay was extremely upset over the use of these Fluoroquinolones Toxic reaction in Humans and said so out right to the FDA trying to shelf them for something BIG, something Life Threating. I am not asking anyone to but his book, just saying that I did and have learned more about these Toxins in a week then the Entire almost ten Years of being Poisoned. I am sure most of you heard of or perhaps knew Dr Jay, just in case you want to learn the most precise and real life stories of others suffering like us, it has helped me to understand EXACTLY what happened to me and how to live BETTER with it. Its called ” HOW WE CAN HALT THE CIPRO and LEVEQUIN CATASTROPHE……The Worst Medication Disaster In U.S History. How to Protect Yourself and Your family from the Massive Overuse of the Six Antibiotics That Can Destroy Your Life. Jay S. Cohen, MD. At the start of this book Dr Jay writes he didn’t think it was finished yet but wanted to get this information out there. I am so glad that he did because he passed away suddenly this last Month January 2016. Thank you Dr Jay for caring about us.

        • Linda January 31, 2016 at 2:55 pm

Your comment about wanting to scream—whenever I write to congressional members, news people, whoever…I always say there are hundreds of thousands of us out here screaming in the dark. It is absurd, that this is STILL going on, decades after the drugs companies knew about the hideous side effect. I truly believe this falls under “crimes against humanity.) (I have even written the Hague.)

I was going to ask Dr Cohen to be an expert witness for me since he was in CA (where it is required.) Now I don’t know what I will do. They stack the deck so much in favor of the medical community, not sure I can keep pursuing this legally, and I am financially down to my last dollars…

        • Stephanie January 31, 2016 at 4:27 pm

It comes down to finding that one person willing to say I am not for sale and gives a crap of what is going on. Look at flint Michigan. There are tons of evil being done in this country. I mean in that city there are about 9,000 children who are now going to have lead poisoning and will have a messed up life and there are more cities that have this issue. We just need one person to help us. Don’t give up we will find a voice for us.

To fellow floxies out there (I was floxed 7 years ago, and still suffer PN’s and other symptoms)…I have a theory about the mechanism of being floxed that has to do with Mercury, especially mercury “silver” amalgam fillings in teeth. As a start, I would appreciate anyone that has been floxed to simply reply with either “I have mercury “silver” amalgam fillings (and how many, and for how many years)” or “I don’t have any mercury amalgams”.

FYI, personally, I have 11 teeth with 15 total mercury amalgams for over 30 years.

Linda, Dr Cohens last book is a TESTIMONIAL of exactly how Upset he was with the Pharmaceutical industry. Dr Cohens book just might be enough proof you need for court, being He was a well respected Doctor in the eyes of the Courts and the FDA. Its on Amazon. I would give it a chance, he really laid it on them about Still causing so many people harm, even after KNOWING exactly how much harm we were being caused. I found out he passed away the day I called his office for my phone conference…. very sad and shocking to so many of us. There is a statement from Dr Cohen on the first page here is the second part of it a quote from Dr Jay S. Cohens book HOW WE CAN HALTH THE CIPRO AND LEVEQUIN CATASTROPHE, THE WORST MEDICATION DISASTER IN U.S HISTORY. Jay S. Cohen MD…” Many Doctors don’t read the FDA,s dire Warnings about the risks, many have little knowledge about these Fluoroquinolone toxicity syndromes and provide little support to patients who come to them desperately seeking assistance. That is why I have written this book, and why I have labored since 2001 to offer legitimate, evidence-based ideas for the prevention ( highly possible) and treatment (sometimes possible ) of this horrible catastrophe that has persistent in the U.S for twenty-eight years and even longer in other countries. I must also admit that this book is not ready to be the finished work I had hoped for, but with the FDA finally taking another close look at the problem, I feel the need to publish it now to contribute in any way I can for those whom have been harmed so badly. ” Jay S. Cohen….RIP Dr Jay S. Cohen.. This was just a little piece of what Dr Jay had to say about this, I have never found so much information ever in one place, well except for here you know . Linda hopefully this will indeed help you?

        • Linda January 31, 2016 at 6:41 pm

Thanks for the thought Lisa, but sadly a living, breathing expert is what is required, so they can be cross-examined. 😦

tmicou, I had a workup from Lindy Freud (thehealinggift.com). She told me mercury was a big problem slowing down the healing. I got my fillings out several years ago but she said I was still full of mercury. It’s hard to get out and you have to be careful or you will spread it all over your body. I used a concentrated cilantro product for awhile and then went to zeolite which made me sick. I am going back to the cilantro soon. You need kidney and liver support while you are detoxing.

What I feel helped me tbe most were/are my ivs. I have them every week I do the myers without the calcium. And I also take 3000 mg of omega pills, super gluthathione, natural calm powder twice a day, probiotics 3 pills a day, 3000 mg of vitamin c. I also do the ancient minerals cream everyday 3x a day plus acupuncture to help strengthen the heart, liver, kidneys, for anxiety and heaches and other things. I also 3000 ui of vitamin d. I also do foot bath detox once every two weeks and reiki. I am no sure what is helping but I know it’s a combination of everything. I also incorporated ginger and turmeric tea plus lavander and chamomile teas. I also do apple cider vinager w aloe vera juice in a warm cup of water to regulate my body pH and to help w digestion, gut, acid reflux etc, headaches, pains and inflammation. My heart also felt really bad. I felt it was going to stop any minute. Started feeling better at 5 months w ivs and supplements. Hope this helps! Hang in there it will get better.

      Hi Brenda,

Fluoroquinolone toxicity can feel a lot like R.A. Many people have pain in their connective tissues throughout their bodies–especially in their joints. I thought I had R.A. when I first got “floxed.” I didn’t have R.A. – I was floxed. Some people have had autoimmune diseases triggered by fluoroquinolones (like Levaquin, Cipro, Avelox, etc.). For others, the symptoms subside and they don’t suffer from long-term, chronic ailments.

R.A., and other autoimmune diseases are linked to mitochondrial damage, and fluoroquinolones have been shown to cause mitochondrial damage.

I encourage you to look through this site – especially at the recovery stories – for advice. Hang in there. It does get better.

    • Debs January 27, 2016 at 6:10 am Reply

      Hi Brenda,

Although of course autoimmune conditions can arise alone &, the FQs can potentially be a trigger, & taking FQs certainly does not preclude us for developing them, the FQs are ALSO very well known for mimicking AND causing secondary versions of various autoimmune conditions , they can even at times cause the markers for these conditions to show up in various tests used in the diagnoses of them . What often then happens, is if the person is then retested much further out from taking them, much further down the line these markers will have disappeared, & will often no longer be detectable.

Personally, If I was in this situation I would be very careful indeed when it comes to teasing out what is what, & especially if a Dr tried to give me this diagnosis & wanted me to start any allopathic treatment for any diagnosed or highly suspected autoimmune condition based on early positive test results.
If I was tested early on, even if the markers for any autoimmune condition showed up, I would play the waiting game as long as possible when it came to treatment, I would certainly get retested much further out from the course of FQs, as all too often we end up getting injured further unnecessarily, by the various toxic drugs used in the treatment of them, when we don’t actually have the real McCoy in the first place.

Tmicou, I have 28 teeth with 8 filling ( Amalgam/ lead ) I also have an implant which I plan on getting taken out. I was Floxed in 2007 but didn’t really feel any terrible side effects until 2009. I took my last dosage of Levequin earlier that year, I also think STRESS can bring out a lot more side effects, as at this same time my sister was diagnosed with cancer, she passed away 11/1/10 . I used to drive and sit with her during her treatments until one day I couldn’t pick up my head, hats where it started. I had absolutely No energy even though I had been going to low impact gym 3-4 days a week & walking a mile or two everyday. Suddenly it hit like a ton of bricks, tendon popping everywhere with No one to believe ME. A month later they came out with the ” Black Box” regarding Tendon Ruptures or Tears. In this Country U.S they already KNEW ABOUT WHAT THESE DRUGS WOULD DO IN OTHER COUNTRIES, THEY JUST DIDNT CARE ?????? Wishing all the best of health, do not ever give up or in…..take a nice hot Epsom salt bath it will feel great and the Epsom salts ( magnesium Sulfates ) will leech out the Toxins and your body will also absorb the magnesium sulfates through your skin. I have been doing this for about a Month and it is actually helping me to feel better. Worse case scenario you have a nice relaxing bath, best case you absorb some magnesium and that’s always a plus. I was taking Nexium for GERD and now they show it ” depletes your magnesium” So I most defiantly need to absorb as much as possible. Blessed day to all 🙂

      • Linda January 31, 2016 at 3:02 pm Reply

The nexium is also destroying your gut microbiome and likely exacerbating your side effects, since the gut is connected to ALL bodily systems. The following link shows the staggering number of side effects, both listed and post-market: http://rense.com/general76/nexium.htm

Plus it turns out that most people have to LITTLE not too much stomach acid. This article talks about how damaging these drugs are to the gut. http://nourishholisticnutrition.com/the-dangerous-truth-behind-ppis-gerd-acid-reflux-and-gastritis/

I would find a good natuopath, or acupuncturist and let them help wean you off the nexium and onto ways that will better support your overall health.

        • Lisa M January 31, 2016 at 4:31 pm

Linda Thank you for all of that information regarding Nexium, I stopped taking it over a year ago. I had terrible stomach problems from years of NSAIDS..Horrible medications as well, then of course after getting extremely healthy and fit I was given Levequin 6 times in three years from 3/19/2007 through out & until the beginning of 2009. The rest is history so to speak, I actually just found a Medical Wellness/ functional Doctor near me, she has a whole list of things she treats, yet I will certainly ask her if SHE BELIEVES LEVEQUIN CAUSED ALL OF THESE PROBLEMS I HAVE. Since I never had anything like this pre-Levequin. That will be the deciding factor for me whether I go to see her or not. If not I will keep on searching, Going ten years in and I am still here fighting and trying my best to get as healthy as possible blessings to all.

      Hi Dan,

I have been floxed 7 times over 26 years , I have experienced the majority of the symptoms over time in my various floxings .
At 10 weeks in you are only very early into your reaction. Once you have symptoms stopping the drug probably would have made no difference dan, so please do not beat yourself up over that .
One thing I will say here is that improvement potentially getting better is something that is best considered over a longer timeframe, as this is just not the same as your usual sickness where we get sick & soon recover, this longer timeframe outlook when it comes to improving is actually one of the more difficult things to get our heads around, but if we can manage to do this it is helpful in my opinion, as otherwise we often end up up beating ourselves up day after day wondering why we cant get better right now. Floxing is a completely different animal & due to the fact that one of the hallmarks of the FQs one of the insidious ways the FQs work is that they often but not always come with delayed symptoms, this is something to just keep in mind, each persons floxing is completely unique to the person experiencing it, this goes for timelines of improvement also, no two floxings are the same.
You can find a lot of information on the right of the page here, in the links, & also the stories from those who have been through this & feel recovered .

I eventually felt recovered from my first floxing, I also eventually felt recovered around 80& % from another, & even after my 7th floxing i have still improved immensely from what I was like originally , & that is also with 12 years of other mitochondrial damaging drugs on top
Recovery of course means different things to different people. The majority of people who are floxed in my experience will eventually improve to the point where they are able to move on with their lives, where this can be put down as another horrible life experience. some people will eventually feel completely recovered , others will also be able to move on however may have lingering issues perhaps some aches / pains which were not there before, intolerance to exertion to varying degrees, that sort of thing, ( in my experience the largest group of recovered floxies are actually in that group )
At the end of the day, I still feel I have a life albeit not quite the same as it was, & If I can still improve as much as I have done after so many floxings, two of them very damaging, I truly believe their is hope for everyone .

        Hi Debs
I found your reply to Dan very inspiring. I am at the end of my tether. I then turn to this website for strength. It sounds trite but I honestly do not know what I would have done without this website etc. I am scared of going to bed because even whilst asleep I can sense the burning, the muscle stiffness and then there are the night terrors.

In the morning there is the stiffness of the soles of both feet. The inevitable will I be able to get out of bed and make it to the bathroom etc.

I jut want to feel ‘normal’ again. Is that asking too much? Apparently it is. I just hope that those responsible for this terrible tragedy end up in prison. Sorry for the rant.

Dan Debs is absolutely on the mark, very encouraging words Debs. I took was Floxed several times without even knowing about it. Six times to be precise. Back then in 2007.2008 & 2009 I had no place to go for answers I didn’t know what was wrong with me, people friends family doctors just looked at me like ?? An antibiotic hurt you like this ? That was tendon tears, the nightmares tremors burning, skin so sensitive it hurt to touch, so many things that I now remember. Dan the key word here is REMEMBER, even though I had absolutely no clue what was happening to me the things that were happening in the beginning STOPPED completely. Except the tendon damage. I actually continued living my life accordingly, except for minor adjustments to my exercise routine due to shoulder ankle & knee tendon tears. Five years went past quite quickly, not a good thing but that’s just what happens as we age time fly’s. I did sleep a lot for almost two years through out this ordeal. Again no idea why. I only found out about what Levequin did to me in 2011,boy was I in for a Surprise. I now find myself wondering was it better for me Not Knowing what was happening, saved me a lot of stress, as far as I knew I had tendon Tears and would surgically repair them when it was feasible. However had I had all this wonderful information available to me at the very start, I may have stopped some things from happening to such an extreme. We all fell into a Giant hole in the system, it allows doctors to prescribe these potent toxic medication for simply illnesses, I read through Dr Jay s Cohens last book, that man dedicated his entire life from 2001 until his sudden passing just this past January, such a Hugh loss to his family and ours…Dr Jay was also a Floxed victim ( Cipro ) he researched spoke to anyone who would call him with their story. This his last book sadly is full of so much information, I found answers to the whys and how’s that I was looking for, again I am not asking anyone to buy this book, but if you are like me and need to know everything possible about what is happening to your body, please buy it, it will be the best 20 bucks you have spent. on Amazon called HOW WE CAN HALT THE CIPRO AND LEVEQUIN CATASTROPHE. The Worst Medication Disaster in U.S History Jay S. Cohen MD Dan I think this will help you a lot, information from first until last page. Good luck to all finding what helps you, thank you all for sharing and just being here knowing I am not alone helps so very much… Best health Possible to all.

    Hello Debs

Thanks for sharing your thoughts regarding Brenda’s question. I took cipro in 2013 and as usual not a doctor wanted to associate cipro with my symptoms. I immediately had joint pain after taking only 2 pills. Immediately had blood tests and inflammation markets through the roof. Referred to 3 different rheumys. 2 out of 3 said RA. The other said he simply didn’t know what it was and basically told me he wasn’t going to prescribe any meds because he didn’t want to cause me further harm if it’s not RA. I haven’t had any blood work to test for inflammation at this point. I know that I didn’t go to bed one night feeling perfectly fine and then wake up the next morning with RA. At this point I refuse to label myself because I know that cipro caused me pain when in fact I didn’t have any. I’ve also communicated with other people who took cipro who said that they eventually found out that they were misdiagnosed with a RA diagnosis.

    Hello fellow floxies:

I first posted my story months ago after having been floxed on March 13, 2015. I am still experiencing multiple symptoms, some severe. I never consulted with a specialist, such as a naturopath, nor received IV glutathione or any of the many alternative treatments out there which might be of help. I simply take the recommended supplements, not knowing if they are helping or not. Before that date, I was active, dancing every day at an advanced level; I am 73, in pain, now walk with a cane, and am virtually housebound, except for food shopping. I am so grateful to Lisa and for the wonderful information provided on this site about fluoroquinolone toxicity syndrome or (per the FDA) fluoroquinolone associated disability. What has prompted this posting is that for over forty years, I have suffered from constipation, becoming increasingly more severe especially in the last five years. Additionally, I have been hospitalized three times for a small bowel obstruction. Now this is what is odd: as of March 13, 2015, the day I was floxed, the constipation has totally resolved without medications, diet change, or treatment of any kind. I first noticed this change on March 16, 2015, the day of my last 500 mg pill (ciprofloxacin). To test the water, I withdrew the supplements I was taking for a month (to see if that is what made the difference) and still no constipation. As we all know too well, no good can come from taking something so bad such as a fluoroquinolone. But I, nonetheless, wanted to put this out there as it may be that the cipro negatively altered my gastrointestinal tract without my being aware, and regularity was an unexpected but positive outcome. Has anyone had anything change for the better after having been floxed as has happened to me?

    • Linda January 27, 2016 at 3:00 pm Reply

well, I think the answer to so many problems like this is restoring the gut. We know Cipro can ravage the gut, which is connected to all bodily systems. I would start with a diet of steamed or cooked vegetables, probiotics, bone broth. Check out the website of Dr Josh Axe.

I was dreading ever getting a cold or the flu, afraid my body would not be able to fend it off. Well, Monday evening I realized I had the flu. I had been advised to have some Oscillococcinum on hand, which I did. I have been taking that as well as oil of oregano a few times a day. Here it is midday Wednesday, and it is definitely going away. Yea immune system!

Hey, everyone who can’t get glutathione IVs or shots…or basically ANY floxie. I was just reading about how turmeric boots your ability to increase your own glutathione levels. (And it also helps with depression and helps fight inflammation) so good to supplement with (or get the real deal)

    • Lisa M January 31, 2016 at 2:04 pm Reply

This is the greatest site for information. Linda I also read that Milk Thistle helps your body produce more glutathione as well. I will NEVER take anything man made again… I loaded up with everything I need to heal my self as much as possible in this point of time. Your absolutely right on with the oil of Oregano in place of antibiotics, it helps to heal all Viral Bacterial and Fungal. Why were any of us ever using governments poisons ? I want to kick myself !!! I can not believe exactly HOW MUCH THESE COMPANIES KNEW ABOUT THESE TOXIC DRUGS YET ALLOWED THEM TO BE GIVEN TO US ANYWAY. We need to write the FDA over & Over & over again until they do their Job. Protect the citizens of this Country. Get their hands out of Big Pharma’s Pockets and Take care of Business. Health to all.

      • Linda January 31, 2016 at 6:48 pm Reply

Good to know about the milk thistle and glutathione…and it has other great benefits like for detoxing, supposed to benefit your liver and kidneys. Yes, I am appalled at the number of times I took chemical pharmaceuticals and could have been treated naturally–including all those friggin steroids for my asthma, when h2o2 works wonders! As for the writing–YES!!! write anyone you can think of. Unfortunately I don’t think the FDA is one of the places that will be fruitful. They are BOUGHT by big pharma. That’s a bit like asking the fox to please stop eating the hens. WE need to write everyone else though. This has to stop!!! I even wrote Amal Clooney (yes, George’s wife) because she is an international human rights attorney. I actually got a response from someone in her office and was asked to answer a number of questions. Unfortunately I heard back yesterday they could not take it on. But someone, somehwere, will. So EVERYONE needs to be writing to people. We need to take Bayer and J& J down!

Kate Snow is a great person for people to write on Facebook everyone does need to write. The more people who send out emails the more likely that one of us or the number of stories we send out will all help get us to find that someone. It just takes one. If anyone writes someone please let us all know so we can all send out stories.

        • Deborah February 1, 2016 at 5:23 am

Emailed Kate Snow & she stated she’s not doing a report on fluoroquinolones. She did say we could send to her and she would forward to proper folks??

        • Stephanie February 1, 2016 at 5:43 am

Amazing yay at least she will send it to the proper people that’s something she has connections that could be helpful!!!! Please everyone email her on Facebook!!! The proper people need to see how huge this is.

        • Lisa M Maskevich February 4, 2016 at 2:42 pm

Lucy Sky There are several places to buy the supplements oils you are looking for. Dr Axes website is one, Swanson is another also Puritan Pride which has turned vegan non glutamine so I bought from there as well. Research the products on each site, then buy the ones that are gluten free non gmo all natural etc..I have used Puritan Pride products for years, being we will be living on these supplements & oils for the rest of our lives to get & stay healthy I would try them first, they have great buy 1 get 1 offers sometimes buy 1 get 2 free. Lucy sorry this happened to you. Thirty years and people are still being Floxed. The good news is the FDA has agreed to reopen this issue , hoping they black box more warnings but ALSO make Doctors who want to prescribe these toxins take a course in the proper management of them. just FYI… wishing you the best health possible.

Is this safe to take if on phenytoin, warfarin, cardicor, valsartan, adcal D3?

      • Lisa M Maskevich February 4, 2016 at 2:49 pm Reply

Lucy Sky. these are important medications, nothing is safe today. You will need to speak with your Doctor about this. Please do not stop taking any medications that you are prescribed unless advised by your Doctor. Please also ask if any of the supplements you are taking or want to take do not interfere with the MEDICATIONS YOU MUST TAKE. I have to take Synthroid, forever can not take the natural one. something I have to do forever if I want hormonal balance, metabolism etc. Thyroid is no good. Have the healthiest day possible. Jay S Cohen MD so much information. sadly Dr Jay passed away this past January unexpectedly 😦 He was such a great inspiration to the Floxed Community, he was Floxed as well CIPRO. His last book is wonderful. I read it in one sitting, of course I now go back & forth for information. Great book.

Heading into my 30th birthday (feb) and 2 years 7 months into the medicine I’m really losing the interest to fight anymore. The latest symptom happened 2.5 months ago and hasn’t gone away for even one day. My one out was sleeping, but the new symptom has ruined that. I now get extreme dry mouth every day and the nights are horrible to say the least. I was asleep 1.5 hours tonight before I woke up with a dry mouth. It feels like candle wax on my mouth and I can’t seem to stop it or get it to go away ever. Dry mouth rinse doesn’t help at all, nothing does. My teeth feel nasty daily whether I brush them or not. This is seemingly the last straw in a long list of debilitating symptoms.

Life has lost meaning. It’s all about trying to minimize suffering these days. I still have my blocked nostril from two years ago that doesn’t allow air to pass through. My nose is mostly for show these days. My breathing is the shallowest I’ve ever felt it and I can take in more air than I can ever get out. There are so many other issues, but if you can never sleep nor breathe easily, they are of little consequence.

    • Stephanie January 31, 2016 at 2:18 am Reply

      Hey Peter,
Do you have access to IVs from a naturopath? If so I recommend going to one. If you can’t find one near you if you give us your area someone will find one for you or an intergrative dr. I totally get it I am 35 and it’s been a year for me. I feel like get heart attacks all the time I have breathing issues not as bad as yours and speech issues among other things. I totally get it there are many many days where I want to say enough and end it all. I don’t because we have to get our story out. So more people don’t get this. So that the world wakes up. I know it’s soooo hard and it’s painful soooo unbearable painful it’s two steps forward 10 steps backwards I get it. I know I go through it too. I’m getting checked for brain damage as soon as my referral goes through to a nureologist. I’m scared too. I have cried so hard. You are too young for this shit. But you are not alone. I believe if you search for comments from Jason or Linda they give suggestions for dry mouth. I have memory issues so I wouldn’t even begin to make a recommendation off of why they said from memory. But we are here for you don’t lose hope. It springs eternal in the human heart😜

Peter- Our timelines appear identical. I am also 2 years and 7 months out from my floxing. I am 15 years older, however. I was floxed in (late) June of 2013. My symptoms have been very stable for quite some time. I have days that are worse than others, but I haven’t had new symptoms in a long, long time. I get where you’re coming from. For me, the pain in almost entirely in my feet and hands- nerve pain, arthritic-like pain, tendon/fascia pain. It’s improved over the past 2.5 years, but the improvement is incredibly minimal. The past 2 months have been a bit better- I’ve been doing some daily stretching that focuses on my calves and hamstrings, and that seems to have loosened things up for my feet a bit. I keep thinking that at some point I may get that improvement that takes me from 60%-80% in months. But I absolutely get your “losing the interest to fight”. I have fought those demons myself.

      • Bob January 31, 2016 at 10:32 am Reply

SM and Peter, I was floxed almost exactly the same time as SM. And I am 64. The last 2.5 years have been about nothing except how to keep working and minimize the pain. I have nerve pain that goes from my feet to the top of my head especially on the left side as well as many other symptoms. I actually felt much better 6 months out than I do now. It is quite remarkable how fast I can go down hill and not know why. Sometimes I think that much of my stress comes from trying to recover. What if I just give up on trying to recover and see what happens. I am tired of trying to pretend I fell OK, especially at work, when I feel like the walking dead. However, I have had periods when I felt much better than I do now. The thing that really gets me is having to accept I may never again walk around the zoo with my grandson. I think about going another 20 years like this and its “No, aint going to happen.” I know I’m not going to kill myself but I have thought about it. I still think there is hope for us all. I still believe the body knows how to heal. for all the people not healing I believe there is an underlying issue, maybe why they took cipro in the first place, that keeps them from healing. Sometimes giving up just means giving up resistance. I don’t know the answer but will keep looking. Follow your instincts.

Bob, If you do nothing just to see what will happen, this is most likely what will happen, I cant say exactly because we all are different… I did not know I was Floxed, I went about my life, walking, gym, I was out of work due to a knee & back injury, I wanted to get into the best physical shape possible for knee surgery thus I exercised 3-4 times week walked 1 mile a day, tip top shape, took 1st dosage of Levequin in 2007…..I continued doing what I was doing… I heard a pop in my shoulder.. hurt like crazy but figured exercised to hard. Pop Pop in my sleep same shoulder.. tendon tears…. Then Pop in my knee adding to its injury, ankles were next. I had tremors shaking while sleeping, horrible nightmares, my skin was so sensitive it couldn’t be touched it actually hurt. So many things no long forgotten. They all started two years after STOPPING LEVEQUIN for the Last Time. I now have bilateral sensory Perihipial neuropathy The mitral & tricuspid valves going to my heart have slight regurgitation, meaning the blood flows back slightly because the valves do not close completely anymore. I NEVER HAD A HEART PROBLEM EVER. This medication will destroy your body if you allow it too. Please take the vitamins supplements especially the Magnesium and E . tests showed rats that were fed feed enriched with the above mentioned had less damage then rats that were fed plain feed. Yes we are being compared to rats. I again state I am not an expert on anything, I only want to get better as we all do. Please Bob before stopping these vitamins & supplements think about how much worse it is going to be without them. At least with you have a fighting chance of stopping some of the major big problems these drugs caused. I searched everywhere looking for anyone that was hurt like I was back in 2007..I didn’t have a clue I was so seriously injured until two years ago, I figured ok it messed up my tendons, oh it has done so much more. It effects every system in the human body. Please go on Amazon & get Jay S Cohens book, it is full of information that will help you understand what is happening to you EXACTLY HOW AND WHY. This drug effects our DNA which is really worrisome especially for people in child bearing age. Please the book HOW WE CAN HALT THE CIPRO AND LEVEQUIN CATASTROPHE The Worst Medication Disaster In U.S History. JAY S. COHEN MD Dr Cohen was Floxed also,( Cipro ) Sadly he passed away this past January, luckily for us he finished this book, he states in the beginning he didn’t feel it was what he wanted and had more to add but wanted to get it out into the world, especially because the FDA was going back to take a ” closer look ” at the effects these drugs had on people, ” I feel the need to publish it now to contribute in any way I can for those who have been harmed so badly ” It is full of excellent information. May you have the Healthiest day possible Bob please do not give up. The FDA has at least given this a name FTS FLUOROQUINOLONE TOXICITY SYNDROME . Perhaps if you are having such a hard time you will be able to go out on disability from work if that is an option for you, that way you can try to focus on healing. Good luck Bob.

    • Linda January 31, 2016 at 1:25 pm Reply

Peter, I am so sorry to read your post. Like Stephanie, I would be curious to know if you have done any IVs, or are near an ND or integrative MD who offers them. Hands down my absolute worst problem was breathing. There was a two month period where I literally gasped for every single breath, every moment of the day. I wanted out. Even sleep wasn’t a reprieve, because even with a sleeping pill, I was lucky to get one hour. It was sheer torture. About a month or so after starting IVs I started seeing a little tiny bit of improvement. After a few more months there was significant improvement.

The breathing problem can be a number of things. You mention that you can breathe in but not out. This is typical of asthma. (I have had asthma all my life.) I don’t believe my breathing problem post-floxing was asthma though, because my “peak flow” was still about right for me. I think the breathing was from either damage to the autonomic nervous system and/or mitochondrial damage to the heart muscle. Either way, H2O2 IVs helped tremendously. They are GREAT if you have asthma but they also bathe your cells in oxygen. (I also got high dose vitamin C IVs, phosphatydalcholine for nerves, Myers and glutathione.)

I am almost a year out and while there is an occassional “glitch” in the breathing, my progress has been enormous. I went from bedridden to now walking briskly a couple miles a day. Another benefit of the H2O2 IV is that I am now, for the first time in decades, free of all asthma medications! (Had to stop because they have steroids and fluoride). I just got over the flu, and normally with the flu, which several times progressed into pneumonia, my asthma would go out of control and require prednisone (something I will NEVER take again.) This time, I relied on naturopathic treatment and I handled it fine with no asthma.

So, I would suggest, if you haven’t already tried this, find someone who does nutrient IVs. Also, know that the immune system and the rest of your body is intimately tied into gut health. Jason has written on this a lot. Most important, make sure to take probiotics, and avoid all gluten, gmos, fluoride. In fact, take a probitoic and open up the cap. Pour it into a little water and swirl it around in your mouth before swallowing. THis may help with the dry mouth.

      There is hope!!!!

      • Lucy Sky February 3, 2016 at 7:53 pm Reply

Please can you tell me what treatment you received for your asthma from the naturopath.
I am prescribed Bricynal and seretide inhalers as well as Mucodyne . Are these safe ?

Peter … and anyone else with dry mouth problems … I was floxed in June of 2013 also, given Cipro or Levaquin intravenously in hospital after an accident injured my leg. My age is 72, and I have been treating my life-long lung issues (raised by heavy smokers) with natural treatments for about 40 years. I had my respiratory issues pretty well under control until the floxing. Not long after leaving the hospital, I had a very hard time with dry mouth. I would wake up with my teeth stuck to the inside of my cheek. These are the things that have helped me:

        (1) I have a humidifier going in my room all the time. I started out with a child’s vaporizer, using eucalyptus oil (may or may not have helped?). Now I have a small decorative fountain on my dresser that bubbles water (filtered) constantly.

        (2) I used a headband at night, around my head and under my chin, to hold my mouth closed so that I had to breathe thru my nose. Peter said he also has trouble with nose breathing, so the next item will help, I think.

        (3) I take a dose of aloe vera juice with food-grade hydogen peroxide added, twice a day to open my breathing channels and expel congestion. I will take extra doses if I get wheezy from asthma (can’t stand those prescription inhalers!). I make it by adding 1 ounce (1/8 cup) 35% food-grade H2O2 (order online, store in freezer) to one gallon of aloe vera juice (Trader Joe’s has best price). There is no apparent overdose on this, so be liberal with it for therapy. Swish it around in your mouth, gargle, swallow, then breathe in and out thru both nose and mouth to get the benefit of the released oxygen.

        (4) I clear my nostrils thoroughly before bed. If this can’t be done with the usual techniques (Yes, go ahead and pick your nose clean.), you can use warm salted water in a Neti pot to clear sinuses and nasal passages. Look up technique online.

        (5) Dollar Tree (of all places!) has some New Choice Natural Inhalers that have content of only Menthol, Peppermint oil, Wintergreen oil, Cajeput oil (related to Tea Tree oil) and Eucalyptus oil. If you have no access to Dollar Tree stores, you can check their site online or look for the manufacturer, Continental Pharmaceutical Inc. in Maryland. OR …

        (6) You can breathe in the steam from any of those herbs made into tea. Drink the tea, too. Consider the many ways to use the essential oils from those herbs.

        (7) I have a room air cleaner going all the time in my bedroom. Holmes makes a fairly-priced room-size air cleaner, and the replacement filters are not too expensive. I think it’s best also to keep pets out of the bedroom.

        (8) For chronic congestion that seems to drip down the back of my throat, I use a tongue scraper after I brush my teeth. It’s amazing how much it removes from the back of my tongue, and I no longer have that “frog” in my throat.

I might add that I have eliminated sleep difficulties (except for the hypersensitivity of my heels and ankles to any touch or weight of covers) with oral doses of cannabis oil, specifically from Indica-dominant strains. If you have a sleepy strain of cannabis and don’t want to smoke (like me), you can make an oil extract by packing the cannabis into a slow cooker and covering with hemp or olive oil. Cook on Low (do not exceed 180 degrees) for a couple of days, strain into bottles. I make my oil with what they call Sugar Trim — the small leaves trimmed from the buds that are sold to the dispensaries. (Yes, I am in California and have my 215 card.) One-half teaspoonful of that oil at bedtime works for me for sleep, pain relief and as an antidepressant. Be sure the strain is one that is Indica dominant, as Sativa strains in overdose can cause anxiety and inability to sleep, as well as make dry mouth worse, so this requires some experimentation to find the right strain.

I believe cannabis has many medicinal uses that will be helpful to Floxies, so I encourage us all to research the subject. I believe it will soon be legal nationwide and create a huge medical revolution.

Since you mentioned hydrogen peroxide for breathing issues, her is something I have mentioned several times before. H2O2 IVs- I no longer use ANY asthma inhalers. I weaned myself off after about the 5th bag. Both the prophylactic inhalers and the rescue inhalers have fluoroide…and the prophylactic ones also use steroids. Both bad news. (They also now use H2O2 IVs with lung cancer patients.) For anyone with breathing issue, I highly recommend finding an ND or integrative doc who gives these IVs.

        • ChristmasCarla February 1, 2016 at 10:05 pm

Hi Linda … I have read your advice about H2O2 intravenously, and I concur that it is a worthy healing treatment. The reason I brought up the aloe-oxygen mixture I make is that it is more immediate, and surely less expensive, than getting an IV treatment from a naturopath. Perhaps it is not as powerful in one treatment, but having that oxygen immediately accessible when I get wheezy or congested is definitely helpful for me. I’m all for peroxide therapy in whatever form it takes! I’ve been taking my oxygen in this form for 27 years, and it has done nothing but good … plus it is easy and available at a moment’s notice.

    Hi everybody
Have anybody had an mri or brain scan that showed to little cerebrospinal liquid in The brain? I have had an brain scan now, that showed to little liquid. My doctor said that this is not dangerous, but i wonder? The liquid is Their to protect the brain.Maybe Thats why i have headpressure, ear pressure, pressure in my nose, in my teeth, and numbness and tingling in The whole head. Also have pressure in my spine and back now, have anybody had the same?

    • Stephanie January 31, 2016 at 8:27 am Reply

I’m waiting for my scan. I have to wait 4-7 weeks to get it. They are checking for brain damage. I will let you know the results when I get it. Stay strong, I know it’s scary but you can get through this.

      • Ann January 31, 2016 at 9:17 am Reply

        Thanks Stephanie
Okay so you are also waiting?
I got the brain scan pretty fast, but the mri i have to wait for. I just want to do it now. They are also looking for brain damage. And why i have so little cerebrospinal liquid. I wonder if i have csf, when the liquid is leaking, because most of my symptoms are the same. I try to stay strong every day, but its tough. But we have to fight and have hope.

        • Stephanie January 31, 2016 at 10:51 am

Yes they don’t know if I have fluid leaking or anything because I go to a naturopath and my insurance won’t approve him requesting an MRI but they think I might have brain damage. So I need to wait 4-6 weeks to see the nureologist to then they will take the MRI. Please let us know what your dr says.

        • Ann January 31, 2016 at 11:09 am

Okay so they belive maybe its a leaky or brain damage? I belive i have something about that two. But when The doctor told me that i have to little liquid in the brain, then i searched about that and found csf leak. I wonder if that can be so. Are you going to take mri with contrast? Im going to have mri, but not with contrast, but now i Wonder if i should have that with contrast instead.
Yes i Will let you know. Im having the mri in three weeks. So you also have to wait for mri. All this waiting is awful.

        • Stephanie January 31, 2016 at 4:31 pm

The waiting is awful. It messes with your mind in ways that are awful. Does you head burn? Mine does and I get sooo dizzy. I just get scared and then they say the possibility of brain damage and then you have to wait a few weeks to find out. Like with you oh your leaking brain fluid but we don’t know if it’s bad wait for three weeks and we will let you know what is that crap. Stay strong!!!!

        • Ann February 1, 2016 at 2:00 am

          I agree with you
Something is really wrong, either brain damage or fluid leak, im just getting worse and worse, i cant hardly walk now, just laying here.
Yes my head burn also. And i have this awful headpressure 24/7, and tingling and numbness all over The head and face, do you also have that? And im also dizzie and off balance 24/7. And my eyes cant take in what im seeing, blurry vision, ear pressure, sound sensitive, every sound is like an echo in the head, and I hear poping sound in my ears, tinnitus on and off.
Yes this waiting is awful. And if they cant find anything, then i dont know what to do. I want my life back, we all do.
Stephanie, let me know how it goes for you, okay? Hugs

        • Stephanie February 1, 2016 at 3:49 am

          Hi Ann,
I can barely walk too. It just keeps getting worse as well my head burns all of the time too. Yes I get the tingling and numbness on the face. I am also off balance and dizzy. My eyes just will roll into the back of my head. I get killer burning in my feet and legs to the point where I don’t want to walk. I have the sound sensitivity where I jump like five feet when children make too much noise. Yesterday they were banging on a machine in the grocery store and I wanted to scream I started spasming in the store everyone stared. I was waiting for my boyfriend to purchase the groceries and I wanted to scream. It made me want to put my head in my hands and scream. I have to take naps now after I come home. I feel like I’m a prisoner in my home. The only relief I get is being in nature it helps so much when it’s just the birds not loud noise. I tell my boyfriend for us to move to a cabin in the woods. We might. It’s just better for me to get as far away from people as possible I’m so jumpy with the noise that sometimes I jump and my eyes roll when I’m walking I have learned to relax and breathe through it.

        • Ann February 1, 2016 at 5:33 am

          Hi stephanie
It sounds like you have The same like me. I cant stand noises at all, it is like an echo in my head and i get scared. And The off balance and dizziness is awful, i have to hole on to things now, its getting worse over time. You said you feel like a prisoner in your home, i feel like a prisoner in my own head. Its a nightmare.
I also have The burning in feets and even in hands. And spots on The body. Also have spasm and shaking alot. Stephanie do you want to talk some more on e-mail?

        • Debs February 1, 2016 at 8:37 am

          Hi Ann,

I have been in our parallel universe for a very long time & would just like to say here please try not to worry too much about these symptoms, they are floxing symptoms . This is neurotoxicity, & your brains only way of complaining about being poisoned.
Many of the symptoms of fluoroquinolone toxicity are completely bizarre, I know so as I have experienced most of them over time, I have experienced the symptoms you are describing myself & weirder . Yes they can be very scary indeed , but they ARE typical of floxing.
Those of us who have been around a while would recognise these symptoms as floxing immediately if they were described to us, simply because of the weird bizarre presentation of them.
I have been floxed 7 myself times, even after the 7th time I have still eventually improved some of my symptoms have even gone, many have improved a lot & I still on the whole continue to head in the right direction, albeit with experiencing a few blips now & again . I eventually felt completely recovered from my first floxing, & another one I eventually felt I reached 80% recovery from, & although it can take an awful long time to get there the largest majority of people who are floxed will eventually improve to the point where they feel they are able to move on with their lives. the word to keep in mind is EVENTUALLY.
One of the most important adaptations I found helped me the most was to adapt my thinking to looking at improvement in the longer term , as it is time in my experience & opinion which is the biggest factor , it is time passing which will eventually show how much a person will improve / potentially reach a place where they feel recovered .

One thing I have learned over time is allopathic Drs do not know how to help us, because we are not actually sick, instead we are poisoned. Allopathic Drs actually do not have a clue how to fix us, they do not know what to do, & they would not know what to do even if they do believe us. All they have to offer is more of their toxic drugs to suppress the symptoms we present with , & unfortunately many of the drugs they can offer us also cause mitochondrial dysfunction, which is of course the last thing we need.

        • Ann February 1, 2016 at 9:11 am

Ohh my god, how could you go through this 7 Times? Its a nightmare
Did you also had this awful headpressure?
I know this damaged The brain, but i Wonder if this can be csf also, because i have to little cerebrospinal liquid in the brain, maybe a leak. And this cause The same symptoms. But i dont know, Will do a mri soon. Maybe lesions on The brain. have you recovered anything since The last time you got floxed?
Today i was seeing an eye doctor. Because i cant take in what im seeing, and I see spots and have a blurry vision. And i had a perfect vision before. And now i have to buy some glasses, and in one eye i have a damage to The macula of retina, The yellow spot. So tomorrow im going to see another eye doctor.

LOL i am so floxiefog brained, I remember now it was Flagyl that you said.

Have you thought of getting hold of your records at all ? I still think it would be worth your while to do so. It is very easy to forget the drugs you are prescribed & often FQs can be prescribed prophylactically before operations & sometimes this can be just one dose & you would not know a thing thing about that it is usually done whilst you are under.
The reason I say this is because the mechanism of damage due to FQs is completely unique & also because records can tell you an awful lot & clear a up a lot of mysteries, they are also handy re any proof you need & I have noticed having been around a while that people are mentioning more & more that parts of their records are missing when they get hold of them. As word is getting out more & more.
Drs are beginning to cover their behinds, & parts of records are going ‘ walkabout ‘ if you know what I mean. It is something I would advise doing sooner rather than later if you were considering it I also found so many mistakes in mine & I also found out I had 3 misdiagnosed conditions.
On MRI I had hypertensive lesions many floxed people have these, often indicative of neurodegenerative conditions , but we generally don’t actually have them
I have just been diagnosed with glaucoma & since my most damaging floxing I have also had one pair of glasses after another I think I keep the visual aid industry afloat lol .
Yes I had the dreaded head / eye pressure & now I have more floaters than eye &
I have still even though floxed 7 times improved immensely from where I was originally I am just grateful to still be here to be honest. .

    • Ann February 1, 2016 at 12:22 pm Reply

No i havent got my records. I Will try that in time, but like you, Maybe some things Will be missing. But i have been thinking alot, i dont now if i have been taking a fluoroqinolone before, maybe i have in the past. But took doxyferm 2010, and when i think off it i started to have problems then, nothing like this. But things that i couldnt belive why i was suffering from. I had problems with my ears and my nose, had an awful pressure in my teeth and jaw, insomnia and so on. But i never thought that it could be The antibiotics.
Okay so you had lesions? Are they forever?
I also have black spots in the eyes, and blurry vision.
So your head and eye pressure did go away with time? Or was it you that was writing to me before, that it took years to go away ?
That was good that you have improved, i hope that i Will to.

I know this is kinda TMI, but did anyone exprience white stuff in your urine and having to go alot as a side effect to FQs. Ive been check for UTi but negtive.

    • Linda February 1, 2016 at 11:57 am Reply

no color, but definitely the urge to go a lot. I had (still have) so much pressure in that area I was certain I had another UTI. The first time, I did. But I was tested again because of the pressure and it was negative. Lisa wrote an article in which there is a section on this. Here is that part: “Bladder fullness – This is a symptom that I experience, along with many other people suffering from Fluoroquinolone Toxicity. I’m not completely sure what it stems from, but here are a couple of possibilities. This article in the Journal of Urology entitled “Role of Mitochondria in Ciprofloxacin Induced Apoptosis in Bladder Cancer Cells” notes that Cipro disturbs the mitochondria in bladder cells and causes apoptosis (cell death) (7). It is also possible that the feeling of bladder fullness is a result of dysglycemia as it is noted in an article in Medscape Medical News that fluoroquinolones increase the risk of severe dysglycemia in diabetics. Additionally, “one fluoroquinolone antibiotic, gatifloxacin (Tequin, Bristol-Myers Squibb), was already withdrawn from the US market in 2006 due to the risk for severe dysglycemia” (8)

      • Lisa Bloomquist February 1, 2016 at 12:05 pm Reply

Another possibility is oxalate overload. I suggest googling “low oxalate diet” and also check out this article and video – http://www.beyondmthfr.com/oxalates-and-mthfr-understanding-the-gut-kidney-axis/. Note that macaroni and cheese is allowed on a low-oxalate diet. :p

        • Linda February 1, 2016 at 6:29 pm

ugh. well if I follow the low oxalate, low histamine and low alkaline diets I officially have no food I can eat. 😦

      • Debs February 1, 2016 at 2:12 pm Reply

Fluoroquinolones often cause symptoms which can be classified best under a condition known as Diabetes insipidus ( not your usual diabetes ) but instead related to the kidneys inability to conserve water as they perform their function of filtering blood. This pressure / full bladder feeling, passing large amount of urine which many of us experience can be mistaken for an impending UTI . & is actually quite a common floxing symptom.
I had this symptom, but did not get it in all of my floxings. with me its cleared up again now .
The FQs can actually do quite a number on the kidneys, & I would urge that anyone thinking of supplenting with magnesium to please get their kidney function tested before doing so.
This is because FQs can cause both acute & Chronic kidney disease. the FQ induced Acute form is recognised by the medical profession the FW Q induced chronic form of kidney disease is not. Acute kidney disease ( injury ) is something you usually would know you had, on the other hand, chronic kidney disease creeps up insidiously, has no noticeable / visible symptoms very often until a lot of the kidney function has been lost, this can be up to around 60% of the function, & this loss of function is not reversible.

Magnesium supplementation is very important for us, however the form of magnesium chosen is also imo very important if a person has even the slightest degree of damage to the kidneys. In this situation I would personally suggest using the the pico ionic form of magnesium only, & even then keeping a close eye on the kidney function ongoing.
Also if starting magnesium supplementation please be aware that not everyone can tolerate this, adrenal fatigue is one situation where we can experience big problems tolerating magnesium.

Fellow Floxies … first of all, I am so grateful to have found this site, since it took me more than a year to realize what had happened to me, and it was indeed very scary. Now that I know we have been poisoned, I have direction to go toward healing.

Someone mentioned the benefits of being out in nature, and it reminded me of a process recommended by Dr. Mercola in one of his columns: Grounding or Earthing. Essentially, he says we are disconnected from the healing energies of the earth because we cut off the electrical flow from the ground with rubber-soled shoes and non-conductive walking surfaces. He has written several columns on the subject, but here are links to a couple of them:
    articles.mercola.com/…/why-does-walking-barefoot-on-the-earth-make-you- feel-better.aspx

If the links don’t work, go to his website and put “grounding” in Search.

    • stephanie February 1, 2016 at 2:02 pm Reply

Grounding is a wonderful technique I try to do this daily. Nature has helped me stay some what sane through all of this. I also suggest grounding when it is raining. Something about the rain while grounding is amazing:)

      • ChristmasCarla February 1, 2016 at 10:13 pm Reply

Stephanie, I’m sure the water — natural and unchlorinated! — helps with the transmission of Earth energy. I noticed when I was vacationing at Myrtle Beach in South Carolina that wading in the ocean was very helpful. Not only did it amplify the energy from the ground, but the salt water helped draw out toxins from my ankle. Walking barefoot on the beach, in water or on grass or dirt or sand or rock, will give you the advantage of the healing energy of the Earth. Dr. M. says concrete will transmit it also, if it is unsealed, but not asphalt. He told of one woman who healed herself of MS by sitting with her feet in the grass for a half hour a day. … worth a try!

        • Stephanie February 1, 2016 at 10:22 pm

Concrete will work too I cannot always get to grass on a daily basis. Sometimes I will go out onto my patio and do it from there. For me it helps for a little bit but I don’t know how much of it is that since I take a lot of supplements.

Lee, please hang on. In spite of the terrible and scary physical effects of this injury, we are all still here, so our bodies are fighting to reestablish balance and health. One of the first things to do is let go of your fears and thoughts of future complications. Deal with one day at a time.

I’ve been reading all these posts for a while now, and one consistent thread is that each of us has to take charge of our individual healing and keep learning about what helps. Generally, it appears that what helps is natural paths to wellness: clean diet, clean water, adequate sleep, as much exercise as we can do, sufficient supplementation to replace lost nutrients, herbal and naturopathic therapies for healing symptoms, and above all, a positive determination that we are cleansing out the poisons, healing, and will continue to do so.

I can tell that I am gradually overcoming the effects of this plague. It’s slow, but progress is consistent. Perhaps it’s time for some affirmations: “I am healing. I am overcoming the effects of the poison. My health is improving. I am regaining function. I have more energy each day. Pain is leaving me, lifting off of me. …” etc.

Sometimes I write these things on sticky notes and put them up all around … helps to remind me to restate them, and each time they are restated, they are stronger. It also makes us stronger that we are linked together to fight for our health. Let the support of our common challenge give you energy to cope with it.

Lemon water is very good. Although they are acidic, they turn alkaline in the body. Im so mad and angry and Hurt. I have been seeing so many doctors this last months. I know antibiotics is neurotoxic to The brain, but all The doctors say this is all in my head. Today when i talked to The doctor in the telephone, she screamed at me and said that this is just mentally, nothing else, and that she is going to give me antidepressants . Im so sad they dont belive me 😦 i was healthy before this. I really hate doctors now, and im never going to trust one Again, thats for sure.

It’s not in your head and she is a bitch. Don’t take the antidepressant. Are there any intergrative doctors in Sweden? I think there are some in Demark. I will see what I can find stay strong and remember those Drs are stupid and should not talk to you like that.

I know that i should avoid antidepressants, but im getting more and more depressed when they dont belive me.
What is an intergrative doctor? Nej week im going to a naturopath, but im scared he Will not belive me either, and look at me like im crazy.

        • Linda February 2, 2016 at 9:58 am

Ann, do not take the antidepressant. Studies have shown them to be no more effective than placebos, and they will only add more chemicals into the mix. http://www.greenmedinfo.com/blog/antidepressants-no-better-placebo-jama-study

        • Linda February 2, 2016 at 9:59 am

Try this instead….1,000 mg turmeric daily (95%curcumoids). Not only did it work better than prozac in a study, it is also anti-inflammatory and has other health benefits.

        • Ann February 2, 2016 at 10:17 am

I do golden Milk tea with turmeric, every day now. But maybe its better to take them as pills???
Im fighting every day not to take antidepressants. Im scared of medication now, and im scared it Will make me worse. I took sleeping pills before, but i dont take them anymore, i felt very strange on them.

        • Stephanie February 2, 2016 at 11:50 am

Keep hope it’s all we have. There has to be someone who can help you and isn’t stupid. As Linda said it’s why we fight so none of us. Yo my knowledge an integrative dr looks at natural and western medicine so they know the damage drugs can do

Ann,,,,you are sooooo not crazy!!!!!!!! I know how you feel about doctors! I went to 18 specialists, and they all shook their heads and sent me back to my family doctor. I made it very clear that I started my symptoms after taking Cipro, Levquin, and Prednisone and I was perfectly healthy before those drugs entered my body. NONE of them listened to me or even investigated the effects of these drugs. They just passed me on to the next one. I have learned more and gotten more support from this website than from any doctor that I have been to. I know it is frustrating…..I’m sorry that you have fallen victim to these drugs. I am so thankful for the people and information on this site!!!

        Thanks jwinn
Thats so sad that you also go through this, and that The doctors dont belive. I could never belive that they could be like this. And all The doctors want to do is prescribe more and more pills.
Im also glad i found this site to, because i dont know how i could go on with all this.

        • Linda February 2, 2016 at 10:36 am

We ALL go through that. I went through 12 doctors, and the neurologist said I was delusional. (Not to my face—just several times in the report I ordered.) I’m afraid it’s us against them. I will avoid all MDs, unless they are integrative (combine western medicine or allopathic medicine and naturopathic medicine.) Contact the one that I got for you even though he is far away, and ask him for a closer referral.

    • Linda February 2, 2016 at 9:48 am Reply

Sadly, that is how I (and most of us) feel. Doctors are clueless and most not even willing to look at the information even if you hand it to them. And i told her that i talk to alot of Peopleon internet , Who are damaged by this drugs. Guess what she said, that i should not talk to People on The internet, and that they dont feel fine mentally either. I Will not write here what i think about her. But you probably are thinking The same

Ann, the video “De vaccinerede piger” in Danish is about girls who were injured by the HPV vaccine. Their symptoms sound similar to ours. Maybe this will give you some connections in Sweden. I always thought it was better there than in North America.

          Version with English subtitles

          Thanks daniela
Now i have watch The video. so sad that People get hurt, from vaccine to. It do sound similar to our symptoms, like you said. I saw that one of The Girls got treatments in London. I dont now what that was, but now i have to look that up. 🙂

Ann, the doctors are taught only to diagnose illnesses and prescribe drugs for them. What has happened to us is an injury, a poisoning, and they do not know how to recognize it nor how to treat it. It is up to us. Personally, I am sending information to my doctor in emails to her place of employment. I have encouraged her to check this information online and to read the posts on this site. I have also asked her to never prescribe Fluoroquinolone antibiotics to anyone again, and to pass on the information to other doctors in her workplace.

By necessity, we are the pioneers in this quest. With the information we are compiling, we will have to educate not only each other and other victims of this injustice, but also the ignorant practitioners that are mindlessly prescribing them. I feel rather bad for the doctors, who really do want to help people but are given only expensive and potentially harmful tools with which to do so. They are not taught any better, so it is up to us to make them aware. Unfortunately, there are more of us all the time to make our presence known.

I plan to print up some cards with basic information on Fluoroquinolone poisoning in order to pass them out to anyone I meet, to educate patients about declining these drugs and to encourage them to educate their doctors as well.

I hope you have accepted by now that the allopathic doctors you have been consulting will not understand what is happening to us because they are not taught about health, only about medications. I hope you have accepted that our bodies are now experimental ground on which to practice alternative healing practices in order to achieve optimal health without being dependent on the limited knowledge of the allopathic doctors.

I recommend Dr. Mercola online, who has a daily column on health. It was a column of his that made me aware of the effects of Fluoroquinolones. I had been suffering a variety of symptoms that I did not understand and which my doctor could not diagnose, but after reading his columns, I got the information from my doctor that I had indeed been given one of the Fluoroquinolones in 2013 while hospitalized with an injury to my leg, and I began to understand what had happened to me. Dr. Mercola writes on a wide variety of health issues, and his columns have always made sense to me.

I am glad you have found this site and I believe it may give you the help you are seeking. It has been of great help to me.

I agree with you. I havent accepted until now, that doctors Will not understand what is happening to me. Its so Hard to deal with that, i thought that they were there to help, but now i know that i was wrong. They just think im crazy, and thats it. I dont know what to do next, but im seeing a naturopath next week. And are having an mri. But that Will probably not show anything, like everything else. But im so glad that i found this site, now i know that im not crazy. And that i have been poisioned.

I am going to talk to doctor about a hernia repair which is supposed to be out-patient surgery. I am 6 months out from levaquin flox. I am allergic to penicillin. What are my options for antibiotics and any suggestions I might go over with the doctor about surgery.

    • Deborah February 2, 2016 at 10:21 am Reply

Yes, Bruce just make your surgeon aware of the meds which have harmed you. I had hernia repair 10/30/15 and my surgeon was well aware that I was not to be given any of those. Hope your surgery goes well!

      Hi Bruce,

      Here’s a post on the topic of antibiotics post-flox – https://floxiehope.com/2014/08/08/antibiotics-after-fluoroquinolone-toxicity/

People seem to do fine with cephalosporins and z-packs.

The most important thing is to make sure that they know that they are not to use fluoroquinolones on you under any circumstances. Please make sure that they know that topical FQs are no-nos too.

The same with me I.V levaquin last march along with 40 mg. Prednisone for wk sent home, a wk later. I collapsed on step rhe day i came home, when my leg snapped and buckled. Was on pills of lev. for another wk and the prednisone for 4 more mths. 6 specialists passing me from one to the other.

Hi everybody, I now know for sure my stomach is what’s causing all my brain issues. I will get some relief when I do the things to heal Leaky Gut, but it’s always right there under the surface. And the diet and supplements to heal leaky gut are too restrictive for me, so I always fail. Anyhow I read a promising article on healing Leaky Gut with Colostrum http://www.icnr.org/index.html I started it 2 days ago and I definitely feel it’s helping, but only time will tell. I’ll update in a week.

Jason if you or anybody has knowledge of Colostrum healing Leaky Gut I would love to hear what you know.

Ann, my heart goes out to you (and all of us) you sound exactly how I was 20 months ago when this all started. I did try Valuim for the crippling mental part of this, and it helped for about 2 months, then turned toxic on me I think it’s called Paradoxical Effect – It did the opposite of what its supposed to do. I was racing out of my mind, so I had to stop, but the withdrawal process was horrific. I truly don’t know how I survived. So I would not advise you to try them.
But I do advise you to do everything you can to heal your Gut whether you think it’s bad or not. Because I didn’t think mine was bad in the beginning so I never heeded this advise and ate what I wanted ect. Now its the most crippling part of my sickness. It effects my sleep with insomnia and nightmares, racing brain, shaking, feeling like I’m dying every day absolutely unbearable. Please heal your gut and keep it healed is my best advice to you. Good luck, I will be praying for you 🙂

Josh Axe recommends a diet you can do for 5 days….it is bone broth or chicken soup with veges and no grains. Only five day! Of course, you can’t then go and start eating gluten and gmos. But worth a try for sure. (Of course now I can’t find where he said that, but here is a link to his page on leaky gut) http://draxe.com/leaky-gut-diet-treatment/

      • joanneg February 2, 2016 at 7:24 pm Reply

Hi Linda, thank you for trying to help me out. I ordered Dr. Axe’s kit for Leaky Gut and have been doing it for about a month now, but only got minimal results. So I was looking for something-anything to add to it or that helps better.

The site I posted for Colostrum is The Center For Nutritional Research, and it sounds so promising with the research to back it up. They explain how Colostrum heals the holes in the newborn calf’s intestines and so much more healing benefits even for humans. I’m just praying it does at least half of what it claims. I will definitely keep everybody posted.

Anyhow, hope you been doing better? And thank you for all the time and effort you put into the site to try and help everybody. 🙂

        • Linda February 2, 2016 at 9:11 pm

well, let us know if the colostrom works for you. I watched a half dozen of the videos in the Heal Your Gut Stomach. Lots of overlap of course. It is just SO amazing how pretty much everything is linked to the gut!!!

And about The gut, mine are totally destroyed. But im doing everything i can to heal it. No sugar, no gluten, only organic food, bone broth and so on, also taking probiotics. No alcohol, and no Coffee. When i tried Coffee in the beginning i felt worse after that and my panicattacks and insomnia was worse.I do belive many things are linked to The gut and brain, so im trying to heal my gut. I have had problems with my gut before this, but now its worse then ever, have a really Hard time eating and have lost a lot of weight.
I have also tried sleeping pills and stesolid, but i dont take it anymore, because everything is just getting worse, but my insomnia are to bad, and every time i fall to sleep im having horrible nightmares and wake up with my heart beating like crazy. Havent you improved since you got Hurt by antibiotics? I have hope every day, to see some improvments, but nothing yet.

It’s like you are writing my story!

Another thing I just learned for insomnia is early morning sunshine. I read that sun exposure in the morning increases natural melatonin production at night. I have had bad experiences with melatonin supplements, and I think they are banned in many European countries, so it was great to find a natural sleep aid.

If you are in Europe, you are lucky to get real lavender essential oil — put a lot on the pillow to help sleep.

        • Ann February 4, 2016 at 1:50 am

So you also have trubbel sleeping? If I have a good i sleep 4-5 hours, but The last 3 days i have only slept 1 hour every night, now i feel like a zombie. Im so tired when i go to bed. But wakes up with in an hour, having strange nightmares, and my heart pounding. And spasms in the body.
Here you can get circadin, its like melatonin. But i was so sick on them, so i cant take it. Its like my body cant take anything.
I Will buy some lavender oil, i never thought about it, thanks.

Thanks to everyone for your post/messages! Really am grateful to share experiences to try and help each other. I’m having sporadic heel (Achilles tendon) pain. Since it comes and goes, not sure if this is how it starts. Trying to not let it consume me. Wondered if any others have experienced, and is this how it starts. Really afraid of this!! When your walking/mobility is threatened it’s serious! The PN is bad enough….

Hi Deb, I get sporadic foot pains, sometimes its achilles sometime the heal, the ball, or the ankle, and what helps me the most is magnesium oil. I just spray about 6-8 sprays over the whole foot and even the calve and it usually helps imediately. I hope you try it, it works great. Good luck

      • Deborah February 2, 2016 at 9:11 pm Reply

Thank you JoanneG! I do have ankle pain, too occassionally. I take oral magnesium but have never tried spray. Where can I purchase?

        • joanneg February 2, 2016 at 10:30 pm

Hi Deb, glad to hear you’re taking magnesium, and I would definitely take a good probiotic too. About the spray, I buy Ancient Minerals from their web site. It cost 30$ a bottle, but well worth it because it works way better and way faster than the oral. But I did get tired of spending so much money on supplements, so I now make my own. I ordered their Ancient Mineral Bath Flakes for about 40$ and now I can make probably more than 20 bottles for roughly the cost of one bottle. And its very easy, just equal amounts of purified boiling water with same amount of flakes, stir till dissolved, that’s it. Hope it helps (actually I know it will) 🙂

        • Linda February 2, 2016 at 10:35 pm

That’s a great idea—because I bought the spray and it did nothing for me. (Ended up sending the rest to steph.) So if it saves money, that would be the way to go.

        • Stephanie February 3, 2016 at 4:25 pm

It didn’t work for me either and ended up giving it to a friend who needed it for pain. It’s hard for me to try different things suggested because when they don’t work it’s money out the window. Tomorrow is my anniversary of one year of pain. It’s depressing to think that it’s been a year and I’m contemplating getting a wheel chair. A year ago I could walk now I just can’t. I try everything with magnesium and it doesn’t work. I count every penny I struggle to pay my bills and I’m just down that tomorrow is the anniversary of the stupidest day of my life

        • Linda February 3, 2016 at 4:42 pm

      • Stephanie February 3, 2016 at 4:56 pm Reply

I have tried turmeric shots. Turmeric pills I out turmeric in my food and yes I tried rubbing it on me doesn’t help. I am frustrated because this stuff works for others and not me. I don’t know why and it sucks. My last round of tests showed increased swelling and my wbc count increased even more. It’s just sucks. I think of how all the people at Bayer and Johnson and Johnson can afford treatment any kind they want and I can’t because of what they did. It’s not fair. I know things in life aren’t fair but I’m a good person I help my friends I don’t gossip I am guinely happy for others success. I live my life to be kind and giving and try to be positive I am about 60% of the time I’m just tired.

        • Daniela February 4, 2016 at 10:05 am

We shouldn’t have been given these overly strong and destructive medications, but rather we should have been supported in gently overcoming the health problem that initially beset us. And that is how we should try to heal ourselves. Don’t make the same mistake that got us here in the first place.

Speaking as someone going onto their seventh year, please, please don’t let the search for remedies and the fight against J&J and B take over your life. I lost a lot of my time with both of those and I can’t get that time back. Yes, you need to do both, but just set aside an hour or two a day for that, and take the rest of the time babying and caring for yourself. That’s just my advice from way out here.

I use a whole finger of the turmeric root or a teaspoon of the ground for a cup of tea, and sometimes I cover myself in the orange powder. it is a mess and stains, so you have to weigh the frustration of that with any benefits. A capsule would not be nearly enough.

But I think your main problem is Tourette’s, not tendon sprains or arthritis? Meditation, sound therapy. Try a really nice meditation youtube. You can also look at raag or ragas sound therapy.

Hi again Deb, i just realized I didn’t answer your question. My adverse reactions started with my brain and central nervous system issues, then stomach, and months later the joints. I was really afraid in the beginning and refused to believe that this was really happening to me, so I didn’t take magnesium or do any of the other things people suggested. I just thought surely it will eventually go away like any other sickness. But unfortunately it didn’t. And now in hindsight I wish I would of started magnesium and probiotics as soon as my symptoms started. I waited months, until my joints went.

Anyhow, are you doing magnesium, probiotics or anything to help ?

    • Daniela February 3, 2016 at 8:59 am Reply

Don’t feel bad, joanneg. I had the same sequence of reactions over a long time frame, even though I had immediately started magnesium supplementation and baths as well as high quality probiotics. I did not get better for years. I’m sure it helped but what made a difference, besides time, was eliminating dairy, paying attention to leaky gut with an SCD type diet, and a good acupuncturist.

Hi EVERYONE, I just had to post today because I feel the best I’ve felt since this whole nightmare started! Today is my 3rd day on the Colostrum, I noticed help on the first and second day, though very minimal, but today is just amazing !!!! My brain isn’t jittery, racing, and on the verge of breaking down. Also, my stomach isn’t wrenching, and even my joints are sooo much better. Not only that, my mind feels bright and happy. It took that ugly depression and doom and gloom away. And I know it’s the Colostrum because I stopped everything else. If this continues, I BELIEVE I’VE FOUND MY CURE!!!

I also know it’s waaay to soon to know because I’ve found other things that helped me tremendously for a few days then stopped working or even made me worse. But I just get so excited if I find something-anything that helps this ridiculous torture. At 20 months out, if you told me cat turds would help I would gladly chow down on them! Yea that’s disgusting, but i’s also the truth of how desperate you get for something to help.

    I will keep everyone posted.

Also, I take 2-3 teaspoons in 1 cup cold water, and I mix in my Bullet blender/smoothie because it doesn’t mix well 3 x’s day on an empty stomach, which is very important. don’t eat anything an hour before or after. Also the water amount is important, at least 8-12 oz in order to get it through the stomach and into the intestines. If you eat near taking it, you’ll just digest it like food and there will be no healing benefits.

Ann, PLEASE read my posts above this on Colostrum, and there’s a post with a link to the site. Please read it, watch the video, and order some it is helping me TREMENDOUSLY!

And no I haven’t had much improvement since it all started. I do get a lot of relief in my joints with magnesium oil spray. But my brain has been in a state of psychosis, manic, racing, shaking, jittering, can’t think, follow good in conversations, fog Just very minimal relief with magnesium which I was always grateful for, but I’ve been hanging on a thread this whole time just waiting for wave after wave of totally unbearable brain and stomach symptoms. I truly don’t know how I survived. I’ve prayed through this entire time for God to heal me or lead me to my help, and I believe that this Colostrum is my help. I have never gotten this much better the entire time I’ve been sick. So, please go back and read through my posts just above this. My God help us ALL find our healing from this terrible affliction.

In October/November my left knee locked and popped, hurt while walking on it and it felt like it was dislocated. I was terrified I had osteoarthritis (I’m 35) . I had an xray and all was good. Soon after the pain got less, and now I barely notice it. Now both my knees get equally sore, but not for long and it comes and goes.
Knock on wood, a lot of my symptoms so far have been scary, but w time they always resolved.

Dan, I would just like to say that I had that Colostrum for many months because I read a while back how Colostrum helps with a lot of different stuff, but I never used it. So 3 days ago when I came across the site I posted, and I read it helps heal Leaky Gut I used the one I already had, and its helping greatly
But yesterday I ordered the one from the site I posted because it said its the only one with Liposomal Delivery which is suppose to be able to survive through the stomach and get delivered to the intestines where it needs to get to finally get delivered through the body. Anyhow, I love the results from the Immune-Tree Colostrum 6, but I’m hoping I get even more benefit from the one from this site http://www.sovereignlaboratories.com/info_HIGHESTQUALITY.html You can order at the bottom of their page.

I hope this makes sense, it was a little confusing trying to explain.

    Colostrum to the Rescue
The “superbugs” created by decades of antibiotic misuse and our over-reliance and addictions to pain medications need not be our undoing. , Mother Nature’s gift of colostrum is just waiting to be rediscovered. Colostrum was designed to prevent infections originating in the bowel, to close the leaky gut, and to prevent opportunistic infections from taking over and causing or exacerbating leaky gut syndrome. For individuals who already have an autoimmune disease, colostrum is absolutely essential to the healing process. Unless a permeable gut is healed, the body cannot begin to repair the damage caused by inflammation. As healing begins, the amount of toxins dumped into the bloodstream will decline, nutritional uptake will improve, the cells will have better access to the fuel they need to for repair and replication, organ function will improve, and energy levels will rise.

And unlike the so-called wonder drugs of the pharmaceutical industry, absolutely no harm comes from colostrum. It has no known side effects and has no known interactions with drugs. Colostrum has been proved in both animal and human trials to prevent and heal leaky gut syndrome, and it’s the only substance conclusively proven to provide this kind of result. Food elimination and herbal products can’t do the job because they don’t contain the antibodies, immunoglobulins, and growth factors necessary to heal the gut lining and provide the nutrition and hormones for cell repair, growth and differentiation. Bio-identical epithelial and epidermal growth factors (skin growth hormones) are absolutely critical to healing and preventing leaky gut syndrome. According to the book of Sirach, colostrum is ranked alongside wheat, honey, salt, water, fire and iron as being some of the ancient “necessities of life.” In modern society, bovine colostrum is the “necessity of life” for healing every chronic disease.

Bovine colostrum is effective against a wide range of pathogens, including bacteria , viruses, and protozoan parasites, that cause diarrhea and other gastrointestinal illnesses. Even in the worst case of AIDS, colostrum could eliminate chronic diarrhea so that nutritional uptake was restored and patients could reverse their wasting disease and regain a significant measure of health. If this is any indicator of how well colostrum could work, from the occasional tummy bug someone got at the local eatery to the C. diff that they picked up in the hospital, then we have cause to celebrate. And with the CDC reporting that 2 million Americans become infected with antibiotic-resistant bacteria annually, practitioners must advocate strongly for colostrum use.

Colostrum’s antimicrobial and antiviral activity is due to its antibodies, lactoferrin, lactoperoxidase, lysozyme, and other immune factors which bind to pathogens and destroy their cell membranes or compete for binding sites on the intestinal wall. , Initially, many researchers believed that in order for colostrum to be effective against specific diarrhea pathogens, the cows needed to be immunized with those specific pathogens a minimum 24 hours prior to colostrum collection. This was termed hyperimmune colostrum. Later, it was discovered that nonhyperimmune colostrum was equally effective in preventing diarrhea. More good news, and the reason is that cows acquire their immunity from pathogens in the grasses that they eat and from the infected people whom they come in contact with, in addition to all the passive immunity that they received from their maternal lineage. This broad-spectrum defense is what makes colostrum so beneficial for human use.

High Efficacy Colostrum Supplements Yield Health Benefits
In order for colostrum to be effective, it must contain high levels the active components, and it must be able to reach the cells with no compromise in bioactivity. A phospholipid coating, such as liposomal delivery, protects the colostrum from digestion and ensures that it can deliver the nutrients, growth factors, and antipathogenic action of colostrum to the cells. Raw fresh colostrum has a liposomal surrounding of the active, sensitive molecules and so, we know that this is critical for processed supplements. Only one processing plant in the world has been designed to process colostrum in a way that maintains integrity of the active components and verifies bioactivity and the presence of antibodies prior to distribution to consumers. If a colostrum supplement can’t heal leaky gut syndrome, it’s no better than powdered milk.

I’ve been working with physicians for over two decades in leaky gut and gastrointestinal health with phenomenal results. I’ve had some very significant reports from patients and physicians testifying to remission and restoration of damaged tissue in multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia, scleroderma, and Alzheimer’s disease. We believe this to be the result of the healing of leaky gut syndrome and the ability of colostrum’s growth factors to help repair damaged tissue and organs. I recommend physicians put their chronically ill patients — anyone with allergies, food sensitivities, autoimmune diseases, immune problems, cancer, heart disease, and so on — on colostrum as a first mode of treatment. I also suggest a gluten-free diet because gluten coats the villi in the small intestine, thereby trapping any pathogens in the infected area of the bowel. Colostrum can’t destroy the pathogens if it can’t reach them. The bowel needs to be reseeded with probiotics, and again colostrum is needed for the good bacteria to colonize. If leaky gut was the result of parasites, an anti-parasitic cleanse is necessary, as colostrum does not destroy parasites.

Physicians with gluten-sensitive patients are particularly interested in colostrum. The Institute for Responsible Technology just came out with a report that confirms what I’ve believed for a long time. GMO foods are linked to leaky gut syndrome and may also trigger or exacerbate gluten-related disorders, including celiac disease. Of the nine GMO food crops grown for human consumption containing high levels of Bt toxin, corn and corn oil are most widely consumed in the US and Mexico. The Bt toxin was designed to puncture holes in insects’ digestive tracts, and studies have demonstrated this in human cells as well. Bt toxin may be related to leaky gut syndrome, and as a whole, GM foods may be contributing to the rise in gluten sensitivity.

“Colostrum is the ideal solution for leaky gut syndrome. Its components prevent and heal GI damage. Unless the gut is healed, the body cannot begin the process of repair” (Donald Henderson, MD, MPH, UCLA professor of medicine). If you heal the gut, stop the crossover of toxins, and detoxify the body, then you’re going to see a starting point from which you can begin eliminating multiple symptoms and narrowing down a process and a pathway to wellness. Recommended dosing is 1 teaspoon colostrum mixed with water on an empty stomach 30 minutes before meals and before bedtime. Results are typically achieved within 30 days, and regular use is required to maintain benefits.

Common practice dictates that practitioners perform allergy/food sensitivity tests and recommend a food elimination program to heal leaky gut. Foods are not the cause of leaky gut. They’re the symptom of leaky gut. That is the proof that leaky gut exists, and I believe that every patient who walks through your door with a chronic disease complaint has leaky gut syndrome. If you haven’t put colostrum into your practice, or you have put colostrum in your practice before and you didn’t get results, you really need to take a look at the fact that not all colostrum on the market is equal. Not all colostrum is processed to ensure the bioactivity of the beneficial components. And if they’re not bioactive, they’re not going to provide the kind of results I’m talking about in this article.

Joanneg, I want to know when you took your last Cipro pill before you started this supplement? I am almost a year out (March) when I started to take it. I suffer from back pain and double vision. Don’t see how this supplement will help either of those. Kris T

  45. Lisa M February 4, 2016 at 4:02 pm Reply

kris t the supplements joanneg posted about was to help heal leaky Gut, which in one shape of form will happen to most if not all of us. That is what is causing so much damage to our bodies, leaky gut is when your small intestines lining becomes unable to withstand the passing’s of toxins, it allows toxins through and nutrients are flushed away. We need to heal our Gut ( Small intestinal lining ) in order to restore our digestive health, once that is accomplished perhaps we will be able to rid ourselves of other toxins hopefully most if not all. Living a somewhat normal life again. I’m going into my Tenth year and anything that may help is certainly worth a try. I’m a mess being I did nothing to help heal myself because I had no idea what was wrong with me. Tendon tears yes… sleeping a lot yes.. Now I totally understand the digestive problems and am thankful for any way to help heal my gut 🙂 thank you joanneg Chris & Ann Good health to all good luck kris t Double vision used to come and go, it was gone until an orthopedic stuck me with a steroid in December, I’m having some relapses here and there. insomnia memory spasms visual disturbances, they went away before hoping they will again Steroids are the worse thing ever. I yelled at that surgeon he just stuck my shoulder without asking me if it was ok to use steroids ?? Needless to say I wont be going back there again. Health to all .

Hi Kris T, I’m 20 months out from Cipro, and I just started taking the Colostrum 4 days ago. I was using it to try and heal my stomach, and it wound up helping with every thing I don’t understand all the reasons this helps so many things, but you can read all the information from the site I linked. I’m just praying it continues to give me such great relief.

Also, I’m not sure if in your post you said you already started taking it?

Colostrum contains antibodies to protect against disease. It helps with all kinds of things like the immune system and the digestive system. It is an amazing protein! So it makes sense.

Well today is day 5 of taking the COLOSTRUM, and now I know THIS IS THE ANSWER !!!

For 20 months I haven’t been able to lay flat because of severe dizziness or sleep on my sides because of such ridiculous shoulder pain. Well last night I layed flat NO DIZZINESS, and my shoulders that I felt like they were being torn from their sockets NO PAIN and I slept half the night on them. This is totally unbelievable!!!

I stopped all supplements except COLOSTRUM and PROBIOTICS. I don’t know if that was a good thing. I’m just letting you all know what I’m doing.

Also, yesterday, I started to worry about not taking Magnesium so I took one and within less than 30 minutes I started to get some weird head stuff. So, I don’t know what that was all about, but now if I think I need Magnesium, I will use the spray oil,

PLEASE EVERYONE GET COLOSTRUM our stomachs are our problem!!! We all have Leaky Gut!! I’M GETTING BETTER EVERY DAY

Hi Tom, I bought mine from Sovereign Laboratories the 12oz bag Colostrum-LD powder it cost 80$. They give directions on dosage, but I am now taking a Table spoon morning afternoon and night.

You will be sooo glad you bought it, and please post with your results 🙂

Did you have balance issues? Or vertigo issues? Or peripheral neuropathy issues?

    • Jason February 5, 2016 at 10:25 am Reply

Hi Joanne congrats on your AMAZING results! THIS IS THE POWER OF HEALING THE GUT FOLKS!!!!!

My reply here is a little late but thankfully it does not matter, your results speaks for themselves 🙂 I know EXACTLY how you are feeling, because I have healed my own GUT multiple times over, and it gives nothing short of miraculous results. The Gut is so important I dedicated most of a page to it, and went into detail on WHY most if not all Floxies will need to heal their Gut, why many people are NOT healing if they don’t, and why it causes multiple system break down in the body, everything from Brain disorders, Pain all over, CNS issues, Vision issues, Tinnitus, the whole Gambit, when the Gut is sick, THE ENTIRE REST OF THE BODY CAN BECOME SICK.

Colostrum, is actually a bit of a “hidden gem” in the Gut Health World. There are multiple ways and approaches to heal the Gut, and there are many more supplements that can be taken as well, really there are tons, Dr. Axe recently came up with 25 and Colostrum was not even one of them. I read about it years ago myself but never actually tried it, it was not one of the more “talked about” supplements for Gut, but from my “brushing up on it” after seeing your results, it SHOULD be. The reviews for it are nothing short of great to miraculous across the board, and it is effective at BOTH killing Candida AND healing a Leaky Gut, which to me makes it a perfect choice and even better than something similar like Kefir (also good though). If people do not kill off the Candida, which Antibiotics are KNOWN and proven to cause, and it is a known ROOT CAUSE of Leaky Gut, then they will not heal the Leaky Gut. This is also why diet is critical to lasting success.

Joanne what are you doing diet-wise? Maybe you can share that with folks, to me (and to all the experts in the field where I learned from) a good gut healing program is NOT complete without proper diet considerations, and people MAY (and may not with no diet changes, and then they will wonder why not, well diet is why not) get good results for awhile but without diet changes will REGRESS later, I have seen this hundreds and hundreds of times, diet is critical to “sustaining success” with the Gut.

I would encourage anyone who was unfortunate enough to not watch the videos in the recent AMAZING free Gut Summit to go back and read this page, which goes into detail on why Gut issues can make someone sick body-wide, keep them sick, what is important diet-wise, and why healing it is so important to healing from Cipro.

Starting at my comment on November 29, 2015 at 9:24 pm about 20% down the page, and then for pretty much the entire rest of the page I posted a ton of info on why the GUT is so important to a Floxie, and why I think it is preventing many people from healing faster and what can be done about it. Also on that page is how to generally heal from Candida, Leaky Gut, and more, links to more information from experts, diet information including things to avoid etc, recipes, much more.

I just ordered Colostrum Prime Life from Puritian’s. It is a product from grass fed cows raised without harmones, antibiotics or pesticides. Sure hope it works. Thanks Joanneg!!!

      • joanneg February 5, 2016 at 12:54 pm Reply

Hi Bruce, I first used Immune-Tree Colostrum 6 because I bought it a few months ago and never used it, but when I read the site I posted and all the things that have to be in the colostrum at certain levels they convinced me to order theirs. You might want to read on it. And if you don’t get good results from the one you ordered, I would order theirs. I hope and pray it works as good for you as it did for me-Good Luck
