Hi Folks, this website has helped me find some sanity during the darkest days of my life. I was on Cipro for 30 days for a supposed prostate infection, when the infection did not clear up my doctor prescribed another 6 weeks. I made it through about 40 days of Cipro before my first ER Hospital visit, at which point the attending ER Doctor told me to stop taking the Cipro because it was causing havoc in my digestive system. The first signs of trouble were insomnia, my anxiety levels were through the roof, and my insides ached. About 2 months after my last Cipro pill, the tingling and numbness started in my face, arms and feet. About 3 months after my last Cipro pill I started to get aches in my legs, I developed carpal tunnel at night time (I wake up with parts of my hands completely numb), and I am light headed all the time. Im at month 5 now and the dizziness and pain in my legs has taken over my life. I get muscle twitches all over my body. My limbs fall asleep so easily now when i sit in an awkward position. My heart goes to all of you that are suffering, and I realize that many have had a way worse reaction that I have.
I just want to put forth an idea out there and would like some feedback if anyone else has considered something similar.
Is it possible that many of our symptoms are physical symptoms of anxiety? I figure that (in some people) Cipro destroys the eco-system of bacteria in our intestines. Gut health is tied to mental health. Once your anxiety spirals out of control your central nervous system is sensitised and starts to exhibit all sort of wierd symptoms (light headed, dizzy, tingling, chest pains, muscle twitching, burning sensations, muscle tension in neck which causes nasty headaches, etc etc)
Anxiety perpetuates more anxiety, and even hypochondria in some people, and you never recover until your body heals from central nervous system hyper stimulation. It may explain why some people recover and some dont? I do realize that everyone is different and this poison has destroyed cartilage, tendons and internal organs in some people – but do you think it is possible that most of the problems in some people are rooted in anxiety which was created by this poison in our systems?

Thanks for the response Nicole. I will definitely look at the recovery stories that you suggest, there is so much here to digest. I must say that reading recovery stories gives me strength. Ive been on some other sites that are doom and gloom and that doesnt help my mindset to say the least – especially when im up several times in the middle of the night over analyzing everything. I was thinking of contacting a Naturopath – i suspect there are many options in Vancouver. Ive been reading that Magnesium, Glut, Taurine help…i bought myself a juicer and a vitamix….I think when I do finally recover I wont take anything for granted, and I will have improved my diet and health habits quite a bit.
Aside from the mental aspect of dealing with all of this, my other concern is how this is affecting my family.
Enjoy Whistler, I love it up there. Thank you again for your kind words and tips.

Oh…and I do take many supplements Jim but feel mag. & Glut are the top bananas! I do a whey protein drink in the morning with fruit or veg. & take NAC & a few others that help make glut. I actually get my injection in what is called a push, much quicker than a IV. It has C, B’s, Mag. & glut at the end. Once a week.
Hi Lisa! We have used PQQ for memory and learning concerns for a few years now even with children. When I was at a seminar last April with Dr. Know, I wanted to know why even nerves were able to regenerate with its use. Long story short, this B like vitamin not only works with the nervous system, but all systems since it has an effect on stem cells.
I continually use 20 mg. daily with CoQ10 along with many other “things”.
I am well, but was quite ill in December as I needed to be hospitalized…so thankful that I made it through–65 years young.
Hello all my fellow Floxie friends! I am happy to report that after 3 years am have had the first good week in a long time. Less GI issues and just feeling happy and well. I still walk like a baby deer. I hope it continues. I was diagnosed with Adult Autoimmune Enteropathy and have been seeing a number of specialist. Lately I have been back and forth to Cleveland Clinic. I also give a lot of my recovery credit to my Natural Path in lansing MI.
I have been getting Acupuncture and running my Rife machine.
I hope the best for everyone of you. Thanks for all the support!

Hi, I just finished a 7 day dose of cipro for a uti that spread to kidneys. I was in such severe pain that I went to the er. I only checked with the doctor and a few sites to see if it was breastfeeding safe and I came across many women saying yes, it was. The doctor also said yes, it was. Now I just stumbled upon this information about how horrible and dangerous it really is. I am scared and sick feeling that I put this in my body and what’s worse, nurses my son during it. I am very scared right now for him and me. Are there any ways that I can try to get this out of our bodies? Any way of detox from it. This is very scary for me to read. I am feeling well but I am also reading that it can happen well after you finish taking the cipro as well.

I saw a commercial today for a home product that supposedly improves circulation in the legs and feet. It’s called Revitive, and it could be another weapon for some Floxies in their recovery from leg/feet pains (Note: I’m not sure if this would be good for those with nerve pain in their feet due to the fact that the machine creates an electrical stimulation. With that said, their website states that clinical trials are underway in people with diabetic neuropathy). It’s not cheap, retailing at around $299.00, but they do offer a 60 day free trial. Their website also has some good data on other ways to naturally improve circulation. I hope this information helps someone.
There is an e mail address on floxiehope as follows. draguiyi…………..I would discourage anyone from contacting this e mail address as it seems it is a scam.

AGU TYI?ELSA MORGAN are con artists. It is an offence under the Cancer Act of 1939 to claim that you can cure cancer.
I’ve been very ill since taking cipro in May 2015. No doctors I’ve seen think cipro could have caused my illness, but some have suggested mold and water-damaged buildings as the culprit. I am certain that cipro triggered my illness and devastated my body in many ways, but I’m beginning to think there may be something to this mold stuff. One of my doctors has suggested that I was a ticking time bomb filled with toxins due to my moldy home and that cipro sort of threw me over the edge. As a result of this suggestion, I even followed through on something called the Shoemaker Protocol to treat mold illness, and have had mixed results. Does anyone else here see links in their illness to mold or water-damaged buildings?

1. In the Northern VA/DC/MD area, which naturopaths, places for IV, getting tests, or other provider suggestions to go that really understand floxing?
2. Has anyone started out suspecting Lyme Disease at the same time while considering being floxed?
I’m following much of the protocol in the Fluoroquinone handbook as far as supplements. Also, using Teasel, sweet annie and goldenseal tincture a few drops each day to address possible Lyme. I started accupuncture and Chinese herbs for fibromyalgia.
It is very confusing because both floxing and lyme sound very similar. I had a screen for lyme that was negative but waiting for results from Igenex to come back now. We had a stray cat that joined our family this year and I worry that I may have been subjected to a tick. We did put drops on it’s neck but I am still worried and confused if I was bit. No rash that I noticed.
My symptoms started with burning pain radiating from the center of chest out to arms on May 4. May 4 I started a 85 billion probiotic that is lactose based and also had vitamins in it(I should have read the label but was recommended this by the girl at Moms). I took it on an empty stomach and I have a lactose intolerance. I wasn’t sure if I caused a herx or my body was reacting to the steroids and antibiotics I had taken on April 30th and May 1st. Thoughts or experience with this?
Since then, burning pain or neuropathy has moved all around to different parts of my body over several weeks and changes throughout a day. At one point, both of my shoulders were very sore and felt like I had tentanus shots in both of my upper arms. That has subsided. Burning or tingling is now mainly in the inner of my elbows, feet and sometimes chest, collarbone, front and side of neck and shoulders.
middle chest pain and tightness (like reflux but not sure that is what it is)
Fatigue-no energy
Some tightness and stiff neck
burning pain lower front neck on and off (maybe thyroid area)
hoarse voice need to whisper on some days
nausea at times
I took a week of Sudafed and NSAIDS on and off in April for a cold/congestion, then two days of steroids and Augmentin end of April for two days then early May for two days. Then was given Levaquin on May 12 for a sphenoid sinus infection from MRI scan. May 12 after first dose my neck tightened as it would snap and I started shaking and went to the ER. The ER dr said it was not from the Levaquin and it usually affects the achilles and to keep taking it. My regular doctor also said to keep taking it. I took it for 6 days when I realized I should stop.
I’m trying to understand what is wrong with me. I know I have pain and I know something is or has caused it. I’m trying to find hope, to gauge if I will get better soon, to become functioning with my family and in my life.

Lisa, I am 5 years out being floxed by Levaquin. My arms had solid, dark-colored rust splotches up and down both my arms. I have watched them very slowly fade with time. I’m now down to about 16 much smaller patches. Does this sound familiar as far as the medication finally working out of the body?

I wanted to post that I’ve had some success alleviating some lingering symptoms by making sure I got all my essential amino acids.
It’s been shown that FQs directly damage the collagen matrix, but I believe they also interfere with healing by disrupting intestinal flora, leading to malabsorption of many vitamins, minerals and amino acids.
In my case I definitely had malabsorption which was causing me to be low on several amino acids. It can be subtle, I never noticed anything particularly wrong till I supplemented with amino acids, and saw improvements in some areas.
If you have low stomach acid or GERD/heartburn, you may not be absorbing your nutrients well either.
The nice thing about this is that taking amino acids directly does not require digestion. So it can benefit you even if your stomach or gut is not yet perfect.
• L-Argine/L-Ornithine (Now Sports formulation): Since I started taking this I have noticed my feet have a much healthier color to them. Not that they were purple before, but there must have been some mild circulation problems. These amino acids are known to dilate blood vessels, so do not take if you have low blood pressure.
• Glutamine: Excellent for healing the gut. Before, if I poked myself in the abdomen it felt sore. This went away after 2 weeks on Glutamine.
• L-Histidine: good if you have low stomach acid, but read the side effects on that one cause it can worsen some conditions.
• “Freeminos” by True Hope: this formulation includes all 23 essential amino acids and all branch chain ones as well. This is a broad spectrum one that covers all the bases, but in a lower dose than a single supplement, obviously.
• N-Acetylglucosamine (Ultimate Glucosamine): Not an amino acid but also helps heal your gut and connective tissues. This form is very efficiently absorbed, unlike most other formulations.
Thank you for being a advocate for this. Rap devastating for older people and children
