Hi all, did anyone have to travel long distances after being recently floxed? I have bad Anxiety, ear problems, tendon and muscle pain, etc… Plus I am naturally anxious when it comes to flying and worried about the long walks and standing on my feet in airports. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you Jane for your reply. I am not feeling very well as of yesterday – few days after the xray on my shoulder, the tinnitus is a lot louder and in a different pitch like chirping sound and can be heard outdoors as well. I also have pain in my thyroid now and a very stiff neck and shoulders. I have hashimotos and scared that the radiation have stuffed the remaining of my thyroid and my ears. We dont know how we react to anything now with our poisoned bodies. I just wish i did not do the xrays which was useless any way in the end.

Hello all
5 weeks ago I was taken ill with diviculitus and put on cipro I took it for 2 1/2 days but was then put in hospital on IV fluids and Augmentin via IV drip for five days
I didn’t have any side eel ts from the cipro not even a bad stomach,I also took a course about 18 months ago for a bladder infection for about five days again no side effects
After coming out of hospital I was still very ill and given four more course of augments and one course of doxycycline
Every day I was feeling weaker,I could hardly walk to the bathroom and had terrible nausea.I had a weird and horrible buzzing feeling all over my body hard to explain but it was terrible
I’ve been off the Augmentin 7 days and still feel very weak especially in my arms and legs
The nausea and sickness went after about two days and so did the buzzing feeling but I still feel like my head is very wolly,my muscles and joints are tender and aching and I feel very weak.My left bicep where it meets my elbow became inflamed and sore but is dying down now
Sleep is bad but I’ve been suffering with insomnia for five years ,I don’t want to be dis respectable to other people on here because I’ve read much worse symptoms and my heart goes out to you all.In the last few days I’ve felt better but still have weird shooting pains all over my body and obviously think I could have been floxed but not quite sure
Any advice would be appreciated

My apologies to the many newbies out there who will read this. This site is about hope, as it should be. It seems to me that there are few things that fit a pattern with regard to floxing, especially when it comes to recovery. Personally, I’m stunned to see how some people, who seemed absolutely destroyed in the first 6 months, bounce back and write recovery stories at 18 months. On the other hand, I know quite a few people, myself included, who have suffered far beyond what I would have expected. I’m a pessimist and even I could never have predicted where I’d be at this distance out. And maybe that’s a good thing.
Over the years I’ve read and reread literally hundreds of stories of hope, stories of recovery. But the truth is that the vast majority of recovering floxies seem to do so in the first couple of years. Just read the stories on this site- they are mostly people who were hit mildly (though I understand that even milder floxings are brutal) and wrote their stories at 6-24 months. For those of us in pain beyond that point, do we have hope? I have seen some longer term stories from people on the FB group, but it seems to me that the longer this goes on, the hope of a complete or even adequate recovery decreases significantly. I’ve been essentially flatlined for 18+ months. The first 6-12 months of my experience was awful, like most of us, but at least I improved. But the last 1.5-2 years have been like a holding pattern. I’m just waiting. It wasn’t supposed to be like this.
And so now I’m down to this: either my body will/will not recover and that’s something determined already and out of my control OR there’s something I’m missing. Some magical treatment or supplement or diet that will take me from 60% to 90% in 6 months. I think we all want to feel like we have some control over this. I want to. But I’m not sure that’s the way it is for those of us who unfortunately have suffered for a long while. I go back and forth.
So, where do I go from here? My life for the last couple of years has been a holding pattern. It hasn’t been real life. I’ve just been passing time. Waiting. But at some point I have to face reality: this may be it for me. I may have to accept that constant stiffness, brutal foot pain, the calf aches, the PF, the hand pain in the morning, the tingling/burning/aching feet, and the pain that seems to permeate my body that I can’t even describe to someone. Or, maybe I won’t accept it. Maybe I’ll decide that it’s not worth it. And that’s my choice. But I wonder, how long is long enough to come to that place? 2 years? 4 years? More? When is it alright to say, “I’m done. I don’t want to flight any more?”

So do I expect for things to get worse for me or is this poisoning totally unpredictable ?
I feel a bit panicky now,I’ve just spent the last three years battling anxiety and depression and a month ago successfully come off a cocktail of pyschciatrc drugs,my wife won’t be able to handle me being ill again it’s took a massive toll on our marriage ,I’m not sure I have the mental strength to fight another illness as well as just being diagnosed with divicular disease
I am now very scared

I would caution against the use of Magnesium if you are hoping to heal your tendons. Collagen needs Vitamin C and Manganese to generate. Supplemental magnesium (200 mg/day) has been shown to slightly decrease manganese bioavailability in healthy adults, either by decreasing manganese absorption or by increasing its excretion. Just something to keep in mind as I know magnesium is generously recommended to Floxies. It could actually be interfering with the healing process that is brought on by manganese (which cipro has been shown to drastically deplete).

So when I mentioned to my ENT doc that I’ll no longer take flq meds due to the horrible effects- she literally just stared at me like I had 3 heads. This was amusing! I have chronic sinus issues and those are usually the first choice, I said no way. Thank god I didn’t need any today. Is anyone else allergic to alot of antibiotics on top of issues with flq meds? I can’t take any Penicillins and I refuse to take Levaquin again…

I had my heavy metals tested a few weeks ago and my ARSENIC level was 28. I had it redone and just got back that it is at 22. Has anyone heard of high levels like this and might know what causes it and how to approach? Has this accumulated over a lifetime or with something I have eaten in a more acute sense? I was going to try activated charcoal and Chorella.

Hi, I’ve read a lot in the past about how floxies should avoid probiotics, but I’m having such bad stomach symptoms I really think I might need them. Does anyone have any advice about safer alternatives or their own experience of probiotics? Thanks

About a month ago, I asked for advice on what do for my 2 1/2 year old, who according to the doctor had a sinus and pink eye infection. The doctor prescribed cipro drops for the eyes and amoxicillin for the sinus infection. I of course, said no to the drops. However, my wife and I did go ahead with the amoxicillin. A marriage is all about compromise, and that was what my wife and I decided on — Turns out it wasn’t even pink eye my son had, so the drops were not even necessary and his sinus infection went away, however my wife and I are convinced it wasn’t even a sinus infection either, we personally think it was just a crazy virus going around, as we all got sick and were sick for the most part of July. I tried many of the home remedies some of you suggested and also attribute that to clearing my son’s eyes.
Moral of the story, trust your gut and ask questions, my son’s pediatrician took offense to some of the questions I asked, I might have embarrassed my family, but he looked just as embarrassed by not being able to answer some of my questions–In regards to the amoxicillin, I did not want to give that to my son, however, my wife and I are a team and we did argue back and forth about it. I didn’t want to seem I was completely anti medicine and be difficult about the situation. I’m sure many of you go through this as well. My wife is very understanding and supportive of my health issues and my resistance to any medicine, whether it’s advil or nyquil. However, when it comes to our children, that is a whole different ballgame, which I completely understand. Who wants to see their kids suffer? No one. For now, I am happy my wife agrees with me about completely avoiding fq’s and is convinced this stuff is damaging and doctors are wrong for prescribing for simple infections. Anyway, thanks to those who replied and offered advice.

Debs tell us more about your home made yogurt. Also, I want to mention, the ear specialist wanted my kid to take cipro drops for his swimmers ear, he said the other drops are more ototoxic (yes out of his mouth). He have mentioned that he never had any problems with his patients using cipro drops. My kid had pain, lost hearing in that ear and the ear was swolen. The doc tried to use suction for the fluid. I told the doc the cipro will be absorbed in the blood stream via the ear even if its small drops, He thought I was crazy. I did not use it on my child’s ear and left his ear to clear up on its own, yes it took 4 weeks but it healed on its own. My husband and child was scared of leaving it to heal but I insisted.

I am coming up on 2 yrs since being floxed and have made tremendous strides to recovery with the exception of muscle weakness and fatigue. Recently I had to have a CT scan with dye and within 24 hours went into a bad relapse. Has anyone else suffered a relapse from the dye? I am worried that having a relapse may make symptoms worse or last longer????
