Hi Catherine,
I did notice that the days leading up to my 1st post-floxing period I had a lot of neuropathic pain in my legs and hips. Quick like lightning and would pass and come back, disappear and come back. I haven’t had that since then (pre-menstrually). Maybe some activity increases around this time now, but I take everything with a grain of salt now – so I don’t analyze then whens and hows anymore. Well, if I had to say anything, it may be the brain fog which is worse premenstrually! Hang in there, you may get worse before you feel better, but you will feel better!! To keep me going, I always say “tomorrow will be a better day.” Just get through today.

Hi Catherine, How are you feeling today, have the eye drops made any difference ?, I too have to use drops, they do help quite a bit.
I was actually wondering how much you know regarding the experience of FQ toxicity ?. i.e, do you have general idea or a vague idea of what to expect, or what sort of symptoms can crop up over time. Have you been able to research it much ?. I am asking because it would be helpful for me to know. so I am not repeating things you are already aware of. It can all get a bit complicated when trying to explain things, as the floxing experience is very multifaceted and I do not want to overwhelm you with a massive amount of information all at once. It can all become very confusing.

If anyone also from you can email me regarding the recovery because I always feel sick every other day. Ive been taking a lot of supplement but symptoms are getting worst especially when I take my digestive enzymes with probiotics. My greatest worry is that I feel that sometimes I stop breathing for no apparent reason which is scary. I am still hoping this is not permanent. sob

Has anyone else experienced a sudden, unexplained “good day” while recovering? I had a much better day last Saturday. Still had my usual ME symptoms, and very weak after being bedbound for 2 months, but I felt “normal for me”. No pain, much happier, muscles and tendons felt normal. I felt calm and clear headed, and could talk without feeling dizzy and breathless, no cardiac symptoms. I felt really hopeful that this was a sign I was starting to heal, because this is the first time I have felt like this since I was floxed.
But the next day I felt awful again. All the old symptoms are back , plus some scary new ones.
There’s nothing I have done differently to explain why I would suddenly feel better, except I slept for 8 hours the night before which is unusual. But I don’t think that would make all symptoms disappear.
Does anyone know why the symptoms would come and go like that?
Thanks

Has anyone got worse after taking glutathione?

Hi Catherine , yes in my opinion all those are floxing related, I had a lot of visual issues, and the burning up inside feeling, and the breathing issues, for many people It more often than not takes a long time before healing begins, We need a lot of patience , being patients . I have not tried glutathione myself.

Hi everyone
I wonder if any of you have experience of, or know anything about, hyperbaric oxygen therapy as an aid to recovery from floxing? I know it can be helpful for healing a lot of ailments, including neurological diseases, and am wondering if it might be worth trying, or if anyone has found it harmful?
Thanks

You want a long term study of the effects of Cipro? 700,000 US. military members were ordered to take 500mg of Cipro twice a day for a month, during the Gulf War in 1991. 250,000 of these veterans are permanently disabled. that’s a rate of 25%. Although the government, and the drug company know what caused these veterans to become sick, they do not include the Cipro on their list of toxic exposures. The long term use of Cipro is what caused Gulf War illness. We as Gulf War veterans were used to test the safety of the drug. Funny how the results or that study were enough to get most countries around the world to outlaw the use of these drugs. The US, and a few other countries still allow the prescribing of Fluorquinolones.

Hi everyone,
Can anyone tell me if it is safe for floxies to take nystatin for candida? I am being driven crazy by severe itching all over – even in my ears and nose. I don’t know if this is a floxed symptom, but I suspect I have a bad candida overgrowth after so many antibiotics over the years. I’m treating it naturally, but wonder if nystatin might help?
Also, does anyone have any knowledge or experience of IV NAD as a treatment for floxing?
Thanks
Catherine
I don’t know anything about Nystatin so I’ll leave that to others, but I did want to but in my 2 cents about the NAD IV treatments. First, there has been a lot of discussion around this on this facebook group lately – https://www.facebook.com/groups/191063714251094/. You are welcome to join the group and see the conversation. IV NAD therapy is still experimental for Floxies – I don’t think that anyone would deny that. Of the 10 or so people who have taken it, I have heard of 2 who have had negative experiences, one who has had a positive experience and the rest have either been neutral or they aren’t saying anything yet. It’s quite expensive.

Hi Catherine , The all over itching is a well known symptom of floxing, it used to drive me absolutely crazy 24/7. As you mention it was even internally. I would not myself, in a hurry put it PURELY down to candida, it was really bad for around two years Mine also developed to include sensations like insects crawling under the skin,In the last six months it has improved somewhat. As Lisa mentions the NAD IV is experimental, In the group there are many differing opinions, and the people who have tried it so far have had mixed results.

Thanks for your site. I finished with Levaquin yesterday, and am feeling pretty sick and discouraged. I wish I had searched this out 10 days sooner, but I was so sick.

Hello everyone! I have a question about cycles of healing/set backs. Over the weekend, I was with my sister, her boyfriend and my dad, all of whom chain-smoke cigarettes indoors. That evening, I started to notice my peripheral neuropathy coming back, rain drop like sensations on my skin and just generalized fleeting pain. Also, the weather has taken a turn for the worse here in Michigan and it is soooo cold. Not to mention I started my period yesterday – but is it possible that it’s just an awful trifecta that’s causing a resurgence of pain? I was very weepy earlier today because of it. I knew that cycling is part of the deal, but I was on such a high I thought maybe it wouldn’t happen to me. I’m 16 weeks out from finishing my prescription and have been virtually symptom free for a few weeks.

Hi everyone
Does anyone know what causes the nails to develop ridges in floxed people? I just noticed today that all my fingernails have deep vertical ridges on them. I believe this is a floxed symptom, but I don’t know why, and whether it is permanent or not? This illness is frightening me so much!
Thanks

Hi catherine , I too have these, they are a just another unwanted gift that fluoroquinolones keep giving to us. They are normally different in appearance than the usual ridges many people get for other reasons.
I think i actually read somewhere that this is a sign of FQ poisoning, I think there is actually information & a picture of a ridged nail in one of the extensive articles I often refer to.
I will take a look when I get a minute, & see what it says .
There are many strange & bizarre symptoms that may turn up over time Catherine, I would say that over the many years since I was first floxed in 1988, I have experienced a great majority of them. its very scary, I know, but hang in there, & please do not hesitate to ask about the slightest thing, if it is causing you concern. Knowledge is power & helps you gain some control over this .

Hi again everyone,
Really in need of some support today! I’ve developed a very severe pain in the front of my foot and ankle, which is worse when I put weight on it, which means I have lost even more walking ability. Previously, I could walk to the bathroom next door to my room several times a day, but now even that is really difficult. Up to now, most of my symptoms have been CNS related, and tendon issues were quite minor. But this is really painful. And I don’t understand why it would suddenly start 3 months after I stopped avelox.
Life has been horrific for the past 3 months – but I honestly didn’t think it would get any worse. I’m trying to stay positive – but can’t do it at the moment, and just feeling like I want my life to be over.
Really sorry that this is not a “hopeful” post, but am desperately in need of some hope or light to help me survive this.
Love and healing to all of us,
Catherine

Hi All!
Thank you for sharing your stories of recovery it truly gives me hope that healing is possible! And all of you who are dealing with the effects of being floxed my heart and prayers go out to you for I hope you are all able to be healed. I am writing because I need a little bit of positivity as far as this floxing goes. I was not floxed however my twin was after being prescribed cipro 500mg 2x a day for 5 days for a suspected bladder infection that was later not found. After taking a total of two pills and then stopping because feeling bad pains in Achilles, pains in knees, elbows, racing heart, shortness of breath and now floaters and flashes of light at the eyes. The stories that I have read it seems like very few have had floaters or flashes. Does this mean they had a severe reaction to cipro? I am completely heartbroken for them as they are going through chemo right now and I want to do anything I can. Have any of you or know of someone who has been prescribed cipro while going through chemo and then being floxed? Any Advice would be greatly appreciated. God Bless you all!
