Hey again,
Ok I take a wild turn and search for something different in my blood next week. 😀
Chlamydia.
I recently was in Iceland and just found out that it has the highest number of Chlamydia cases in Europe.
My doc suggested before knowing that I was in Iceland that my condition COULD be latent Chlamydia getting activated by Cipro and turning into a reactive Arthritis.
I know it’s most likely not the case but hey the first sign of hope (apart from this great site) since getting the side effects.
I’ll test for Chlamydia and HLAB27 next week.
Maybe you can to and share your results?

HERES A POST OF HOPE!
My name is Katelyn, and I was floxied alittle over a year ago from one dose of cipro prescribed for a UTI. Long story not-so-short, within a few hours of taking the first dose (keep in mind I am really small framed), I experienced overall itching, anxiety/panic attack, hallucinations, trouble breathing, etc. Over the next week, everything got stranger with my body. I was 20 at the time and never had any health issue in my life. Yet, within the next week after taking that one dose, I experienced extreme insomnia (up 4 days straight), itching, peripheral neuropathy in my hands/feet, anxiety/depression, arthritic pain in my joints, food intolerances, eye floaters, and detached/foggy headed.
The most disturbing part of my journey, however, is when I developed c-dif (an intestinal illness caused by an overgrowth of unhealthy bacteria) and was hospitalized for a week. When I researched the connection between cipro/cdif, I was shocked. However, the doctors and nurses thought I was nuts and refused to accept the fact that something one of their colleagues prescribed caused this.
I was at my lowest. I went from a healthy 20 year old, to a sick, tired, foggy, weak/in pain. Not too mention I lost 15 pounds from the c-dif. It was frightening. I was nearly suicidal.
HOWEVER, do not let this story kill your spirits, because, a little over a year later, I am almost myself again.
I will admit I tried some crazy solutions that I read/researched online (magnesium supplementation/spray, colon cleanse, lemon juice diet), but I think what helped me was time, a healthy, non-extreme diet (yes I still eat gluten! lol), exercise, and patience.
It sounds corny, but yes, patience is key in this. You will get better. Our bodies have a natural way of cleansing themselves, and even repairing.
However, the few things I did consistently throughout the past year to repair are:
-avoid corn (this is just me personally because after being floxied, I have an intolerance to corn and begin to vomit/headache).
-avoid genetically modified foods as much as possible (just a way of avoiding more toxins)
-fluoride free toothpaste
-stop drinking tea (expect for herbal): I found teas-green,white,black, were causing more pain-and from research-I believe it to be due to the high levels of fluoride found in tea.
The only issues I am still facing is peripheral neuropathy every once in a while (better than daily like I experienced in the first 6 months), and intolerance to corn. My brain fog, anxiety, depression, constant p.n., eyefloaters, and constant stomache aches (cdif related) are gone.
DO NOT GIVE UP. I cannot believe how many other people have gone through something similar from this, even from one dose of these nasty drugs. My heart goes out to each and every one of you.

Exercise has been shown to have numerous benefits, even at the level of brain cells. For example, regular, vigorous exercise has been shown to cause special cells in the brain to increase their production of repair chemicals called neurotrophins. People with Alzheimer’s disease have been shown to have much lower levels of neurotrophins than normal.
In addition, exercise improves blood flow to the brain and increases protective antioxidant enzymes. People with minimal cognitive impairment, thought by some to be an early stage of dementia, can reverse memory problems with regular exercise combined with a proper diet.
Exercise causes the body to produce tremendous concentrations and types of free radicals and the production last for hours after the exercise is finished. This can be a double-edged sword. The burst of free radicals stimulates your cells to produce higher levels of antioxidant enzymes, which is very good. But it can also deplete your body’s antioxidant vitamins, minerals, and other chemicals, such as glutathione. This is very bad.
This means you should keep these protective substances at adequate levels by regular supplementation. The amount will depend on your intensity and duration of exercise. It is also important to use a mix of antioxidants because they each neutralize specific forms of free radicals.
While most exercises are good, it is important to exercise all of the muscles and to always include resistance exercises, as these build and prevent muscle loss, strengthen spinal discs and ligaments, and prevent a loss of bone calcium.
Exercise also improves blood flow and lymph flow to tissues and organs. Deep breathing during exercise specifically increases the flow of lymph (a second circulatory system in the body) in lymphatic vessels, including the heart and lungs. This cleanses the tissues of toxic buildup.
After exercise, it is important to rehydrate. This is best done with distilled water with magnesium added, which you can do yourself by emptying a 500 mg capsule of magnesium per gallon of water.
You should drink at least 12 to 16 ounces of water after exercise.
Hi Josie,
I am very sorry you got hurt like the rest of us. Please share with your family, this Floxie Hope website & the Surviving Cipro website. There are many links on both sites to articles, and information from around the country that explain what this ADR – Adverse Drug Reaction is and how many people have been effected just like you and all of us. You need help from your parents….and though they don’t understand this at this moment, once they have the information they will rally around you and help you get the supplements and assist you keeping a (chemical free) food and life style. Dont allow your thoughts to convince you otherwise.
I am Christian and my faith played the biggest part of my recovery…because the foundation of believing God’s healing power, gave me the perseverance to walk through this valley. My daily prayers give thanks to God for all the blessings he has given me and proclaiming my healing and restoration in Jesus name. No matter how things looked, or felt…or tears that were cried, I know that God is with me, and is always working everything for the good. That is how you came to find this website….your belief that there must be help out there and there is. Blessings and healing will continue….stay faithful.
Here are some suggestions that have already been made, but need to be emphasized again. Simple, safe, effective. Necessary!
1) Magnesium Sulfate – Epsom Salt Baths – Very important, because this will get the magnesium into the “Cells”. Soaking in the bath, means your whole body can absorb the magnesium.
Come in what looks like a “milk carton” Buy 2- 4 of them .
2) Buy Magnesium “Citrate” instead of the form you were taking 400mg daily
4) Vitamin C – Lypo Spheric- Amazon
& Tumeric – is a spice but safe and helpful for inflammation. Buy without additonal ingredients- just singular simple tumeric. (Natures way)
5) Omega 3 – Nordic Naturals – safe and helpful for inflammation/ nerves- nervous system -brain
6) Zinc- citrate
Sources for Supplements:
Vitamin Shoppe local or online
Iherb- online

Hi Josie,
This is a whole body, systemic injury. The tendons & muscles & the peripheral nervous system & the Central Nervous System are effected. Therefore, the anxiety you have is understandable because many experience mental anxiousness, sleeplessness, Sensitivity to sounds, or speedy thinking that feels jumpy. The list of supplements do address all of these issues…in a whole body way. Think of supplements as food for a garden that has been poisoned. By adding nutrients to help reestablish a more “hospitable” environment to better handle the burden on the garden from toxins. Allowing assistance to the many processes that occur every second of the day.
The Magnesium Sulfate -Epsom Salt Baths will help with the inflammation in your body, including your swollen knees.
Magnesium Citrate – is well absorbed and yes the form is important. I will explain another post. These differences are as you have already experienced can be very important.
The Omega 3 – Nordic Naturals are significant for your BRAIN too. If you have any twitching sensations under the skin, in your arms or legs, that is the peripheral nervous system and central….you may benefit from: 5HTP tryptophan which will help with your BRAIN and mental state. This can be found online or at health food store, Vitamin Shoppe or whole foods if local to you.
The antidepressant medication has been used by some, and helped some folk. I did not need or want them. Why do you think you do? Tears, worry, anxiousness, feeling down are all normal for any illness or hardship. If you have some relief of Body pains, inflammation, then your overall sense of well being will lift hand in hand.
Non pharmacuetical options
Lavender Oil –
St. John Wort-
Omega 3 – Nordic Naturals
I say this because avoiding Pharmaceutical Drugs is preferable.
Here are (2) Naturopath Clinics that are close to your area. I did a search that I hope will provide an option for you to get care. There are very few doctors in the country who have any knowledge or experience with our injuries fro these drugs. However they are Naturopath ND who are willing to research and work with you!

Dear Josie, Yes you are in my prayers! Show your Mom more articles from the New York times, Forbes,…etc. There is a lot of information so keep presenting it to her. She will be your greatest advocate! Have your Mom get the Epsom Salt tomorrow! Do not put this off! very important. ASAP. This will help with all the area you are hurting and start you getting what your body needs. Your whole body, you will treat your whole body.

Speaking as someone who unfortunately has had a lot of experience of these drugs & the psychiatric system & thus has done over 14 years of research on the Drugs & the science IMO, if you can avoid doing this I would do so , these drugs can cause a lot of problems for many people, not least that they are hard to get off of them once you start taking them let alone the physical changes they cause in the brain . these can cause chemical imbalances that are not there before you start taking the drug. Believe me, .The ‘ science’ of psychiatry has a lot to answer for. It has been shown that therapy is just as effective as antidepressants in many people, so if you can access this first I would strongly suggest doing so BEFORE going down the psychotropic drug route
If however you DO decide to go down this route PLEASE try to also get therapy alongside it, as this has shown to be far more effective, take it at as low as a dose to be effective for as short a time as possible , & then IMO this is VERY important get yourself OFF of it if humanely possible, Psychotropic drugs by the way have never been tested in clinical trials for long term use believe it or not.
I am someone who feels that we should all get our own informed consent on any drug we are prescribed as of course this is how so many of us ended up floxed. One VERY important thing to keep in mind re antidepressants / antipsychotics benzos etc is this : Do NOT expect ANY psychiatrist to give you informed consent on psychotropic drugs, there are HUGE conflicts of interest in this profession, them being paid handsomely for every drug they prescribe, & at least. 69 % of the task force involved in voting in the new ‘diagnoses’ included in the latest DSM IV have ties to the pharmaceutical industry. This is why you must always do your OWN research on these drugs PLEASE Josie & everyone here, make sure you research any psychotropic drug you are given, in DEPTH, BEFORE you decide to take it. I can recommend Drugs.com as a good place to start.

Dear Josie, I am so glad to hear that everybody is coming on board with understanding that Cipro is responsible for all that you are going through. I fully understand & respect that your family wants to be sure that there are not additional issues behind the symptoms you are experiencing.
I also had numbness in my arms, and the other things you mentioned. I do not have most of them anymore. Please be cautious about activities that cause impact on tendons, and joints, which includes your Achilles tendon, elbows, wrists, shoulders, hips, knees…..take it easy with fast sudden movements, like going up or down steps, or a curb.
An excellent web site with information about the dangers of psychotropic drugs is http://www.madinamerica.com/. Drugs are thrown at people with mental health problems way too cavalierly. I think that Mad In America provides a necessary counter-balance to our pill-popping culture.
Informed consent is very important. Please make sure that you have the information that you need before consenting to any drug treatment.
