Hey John, I know exactly how you feel. I would say to myself “well at least I don’t have tinnitis or any eye issues”.. then months later (at 2 years out from taking cipro) dry eyes, dry skin, slight ringing in the ears that turned into loud ringing in the ears over 6 months or so, then floaters, then vision loss/disturbance. I had dental issues as well. Those went away. My gums were all swollen and kept bleeding in a few different areas. One in particular would just bleed at random times. I would be in my office at work and have blood in my mouth for no reason. My dentist couldn’t figure it out. I took peridex for awhile and it stained my teeth yellow…. sweet. They are less yellow now thank goodness. My family thinks its just me getting older too but that is garbage. I was a really young 37 year old before all of this…. now I’m a REALLY old 40 year old. We have found the anti fountain of youth…Cipro. Maybe the dental issues are from dry mouth?? Cipro has really dried me out everywhere.
Hang in there John. I hope someday it will come to light to the medical community and public what this horrific class of antibiotic is capable of. People like Lisa are helping that to become a reality. Thanks again Lisa for your time and effort to make a difference.
Hopefully Dr. Golumb can shed some light on all of this as well. I’m really interested in what her research will show.

John and Mark,
that frightening! I had the same thought 8 months ago “ok, I don’t have very hard pain, my joints are only popping and I have “only loud tinnitus” and I’m tired. During a few months I thoughts that I can recover, that nothing awfull will appear… but, 8 monts later my tinnitus is worst. I’m sure that it never will go back and I’m scared that it get worse and worse. And my eyes began to be crazy. Now I can’t imagine having a real recover. It’s like waiting that something awfull come again. I’m really wondering if there is people who really recover and can have a life like before. I’m pessimist, I think that we are damaged for ever…
Sorry, I’m just so affraid…

I have scheduled an appointment with my eye doctor this week. Just to get checked as I haven’t been in a few years. I am sure he will dilate my pupils. I am very paranoid about what I put in my body so I wanted to hear if anyone had any good or bad experience with whatever substance they use to dilate the pupils.
Thanks

About tinnitus — mine is almost gone! The first year I had horrible sensitivity to noise. I couldn’t stand the sound of the fork touching the plate. The second year was better. The third year, a few months after I developed vertigo from dental anesthesia, the loud hissing all night started. But I think the major tinnitus is gone now, two years later.
I hardly did anything for it. I really didn’t know what to do for it! Perhaps I protected my ears. I started wearing knitted caps as much as possible. I carried ear plugs in case there was too much noise ( I used them at the cinema, for example.) I definitely don’t listen to loud music or loud television or use headphones.

Whaou Daniela! I’m really happy for you! that great!
After 8 months now, I really thought that it will stay for ever… wait and see maybe in a few years I get luck!
I don’t do anything for it, because I know that tinnitus could’nt be treated. I just try to used my brain to forget it. I had sensibility to noises during 2 months, it appeared on morning. Ho my god, the sound of fork touching a plate or worst: tea spoon! I can’t work anymore because the sound of my collegue’s keyboard was unbearable. Now it’s better but I protect my ear like you. In the cinema, people are looking at me like if I’m an alien 🙂

Here is a tragically comical discussion back in 2006, among pharmaceutical salesmen. One experienced devastating side effects of Cipro or Levaquin, and eventually others begin arguing with him, calling him all kinds of epithets regarding his prowess, among other things!
Hi all. I am very happy to report in with some good news, it “looks” like I have turned the corner and might be “out of the woods”. This was no easy battle as you all know, there were days where I really lost hope, was depressed, and so damn angry that I was sure I would eventually do something stupid. However, there is always hope, and this is something we just have to have faith in, by reading others stories and seeing recoveries happen, I hope to write my own story one day, it could be a little early just yet to do so now.
Anyway I took a very aggressive approach with this crap, which you can kind of see on the top half of this page, and on the last 2 pages. I’m taking a bunch of supplements which are definitely helping (some I was taking even before this, and I was already on very strict diet before this happened which I believe both helped me a lot), and a basic protocol of detoxing, resting, healing, then repeating. I only detoxed when symptoms were minimal, and felt strong enough to do it. No point stirring up the toxins when they are already mobilized and causing damage. When things were/are fairly good though, this is when I would purposely exercise and then Sauna after, mobilizing the crap, then taking supplements to make sure they exit the body.
Well it worked! I went from jogging just 5 minutes down the road and having tremors and sore legs for 2 weeks after, to playing a full hour of Squash last night and barely any pain at all after or today. This is actually the 2nd time I have done this now with very little pain occurring, very minimal repercussions compared to before so I feel that most of this junk is gone from my body (but not all, there are some minor tremors and tinnitus today, just nothing like before though)
In the beginning, just walking to the store, or even doing nothing at all I would have these shooting painless tremors running up and down my lower legs all the time, followed always by muscle and tendon pain. Joints always popping like crazy too, and other symptoms but these were always the worst for me. In the beginning I did not exercise, it was only after things were settling down a bit that I would purposely stir them back up again, for the purpose of speeding up the process of elimination. Exercise WILL stir them up, at least it always worked for me, and you see many other people saying they have relapses after long periods (even years) of doing well, because they partook in rigorous exercise, see my posts last page for more about this if curious. So in my opinion, you only want to do this if you are prepared for the repercussions of symptoms returning, and are prepared to do what is necessary to get them to settle down again (which for anyone who is/was having severe symptoms may not even be possible)
As I have noted many times, my symptoms were never really extreme, and I only took 2 pills, so this is another reason I went this route and was fairly confident in doing so. My leg pain and joint issues were probably 6.5 out of 10 on the scale of how bad they were. Tinnitus probably 3/10 as were the other 15 or so symptoms I had like back pain and others (at least comparing to what other people here are going through). I also already had joint and tendon issues before these 2 stupid pills, so this was a real scare for me when I learnt that this poison was especially bad for these areas, and I immediately went into panic mode for fear of losing my ability to play sports, which is my only form of exercise and one of the things I really enjoy doing, so I started supplementing the very next day after my last stupid Avelox pill.
Note I am only 2 months out from my 2 Avelox pills, it feels more like 4 months though…. There are stories of people recovering in 2 months, so I am hoping that I am joining them here. I do still have some symptoms but they are very minor overall, and it feels like I am 90% back to where I was before the 2 pills. It seems likely I will suffer a full relapse at some point, and there is probably nothing I can do about it (I say this because it seems so many people seem to have relapses). If it happens, it will be part of the healing process, and just have to be dealt with in the same manner that the initial issues were dealt with.
I hope this helps some of you in some way, and gives you some hope, we all need it for sure
Not that anything can stop the madness, in my opinion, 🙁 but one can try.

Hi Danieal, Jason and Destruida,
Thanks for the very interessant explications and the good advices. I’m going to try to stop smoking, I have to! Since yersterday my tinnitus is worst, a hig pitch that I have never had, that makes my crazy, an my vision is awful. I have more and more floaters and pain behind my eyes, and quite strange, pain or burning sensation in the top of one ear. Surprisingly I can fel asleep (very bad) since a few days.
I bought my last (I hope) cigarrettes package this morning. I have to be strong!
I send you all my best thoughts 🙂

Destruida, Jason and daniela,
Thank you so much for the strengh that you’re giving to me!!! … that so kind, that’s makes me cry (I’m sensitive and since the floxe I have trouble to master my emotions).
Yes, smoking is a real addiction, stong one but I’ll be stronger!
Actually I stopped smoking 3 years ago during 1,5 years and restarted stupidely. I done it one time, I can do it one more time! It’s gonna be difficult because I’m so weacked and feel so bad, but I’ll try with all my strengh.
I don’t know if I can say that I have severe symptoms because I don’t have strong pain in my tendons, I can walk, I don’t have trouble to eat, etc like many other persons.
The worst are my ears (pain, tinnitus that get worse and worse), my eyes, joints popping and the anxiety, pannic attacs, sort of brainfog, fear all the time, insomnia (all the cns stuff), hard to explain but It’s not me anymore, something is going completely wrong, I feel it hardly. So, I feel a bit stupid whan I complain, compare to people who have huge pain, I’m so sorry.
But I’m affraid because it seems like a delayed reaction, the one which seems the hardest to recover. Am I wrong? when I took the pills I had “only” tinnitus, insomnia, small pain in my joints, pannic, brain fog. 8 months later, I have the eyes issues, my joint are popping more and more, tinnitus get worse, I’m sooooo exausted. I feel so strange and have to make a lot of efforts to do what I have to do. The hardest is thinking of my boyfriend. He’s the best man in the world! Kind, comprehensive, sweet, clever, patient. I love him so much, he helps me so much. I hate that he has to see these strange person, without energy, having difficulties to follow conversations, always in fear. He says that it’s ok, he loves me like this because he knows that I’m sick and I’m not awful, things are gonna be better. But it make me sad to impose him my condition. I’m fighting for me and for him, for us!!!
I read the success stories, that helps me a lot, one more time thank you Lisa!!!! But in thoses stories, people are getting worse quickly and then they slowly heal. Nothing like a delayed reaction (perhaps I don’t have one, I don’t know, maybe I’m crazy and complaining for nothing, sorry).
I’m convinced of the power of the mind, really. I try to say mantra, to breath, everyevening I make a sort of meditation, visualize my body in perfect health, encourage it to recover, etc.
I can’t say how grateful I’m to all of you, taking time to answer and giving me hope!!! I pray for each of you, you’re getting through this and win the battle!!!!

Well….I’m back. I hope everyone is well.
It’s been four months since i got sick from a student and I’m still not healthy from it. I’m thinking the floxing is preventing me from healing. I still have white chalky stuff on my tonsils and throat and now just noticed i have white pus on them again (which i haven’t seen in a month or so). There had been off and on heavy mucus and none of the cures listed on here have helped. I can’t beat this at all. I’ve also noticed my nose functions at an even lower rate than pre sickness. So I’m lost again.
I can’t get better from this illness, my throat, my nose, my breathing. On top of all my floxing symptoms and issues that are still continuing. Any suggestions on this or cures in general that anyone has found recently?

I just want to remind people that, although the cells of the lining of your mouth, for instance, are renewed approximately every five days, there are some cells in your body that are only renewed every 7-10years, so it behoves us to be patient.
Hello everyone. I just wanted to let everyone know I am recovering quite well I think. Also after my second Crohn’s flare up my ND turned me to the SCD diet. I really think it is helping me. It may be worth checking out. I wish you all the best.
I’m on the fence for some time now but am still too worried about the potential dangerous SBO in it. Would be great if you share your experience if you tried it.

Rene or Others- I’ve been supplementing with 400 mg of mag glycinate daily for a while now. No issues. But I just started using some mag oil on my skin too and have noticed my stomach bothering me. I guess i figured that transdermally it wouldn’t affect me that way. Anyone else have this experience? Thank you!

It’s my two year anniversary of being floxed. My condition has improved a lot, especially over the last few months. I can walk around the house like I used to, slowly but fairly normally, without needing crutches or a cane anymore. I can stand for long periods of time, as long as I’m wearing shoes that offer good support. My next hurdles are being able to walk up and down steps again and being able to walk or stand barefoot long enough to take a shower without having to sit on a plastic chair. Still, it’s a huge improvement from where I was even 6 months ago, let alone 2 years ago when I could not walk or stand at all.
Flare-ups are rare. I had a brief and mild flare-up of peripheral neuropathy in my left lower leg a couple of days ago that lasted about 36 hours then went away. It had been several months since I’d experienced anything like that, though in the beginning it was constant. I have not had any tics, muscle spasms, or fasciculations in a long time, though in the beginning that was constant as well. It’s also been months since I’ve felt any bee sting-like sensations.
I’m doing much, much better and starting to feel like I’ll be able to live life again like I used to, only with much more appreciation for it.
One thing I added to my routine a few months ago that I believe has made a big difference in my rate of improvement is juicing. I bought a juicer and gradually worked my way up to drinking 3 to 4 twelve oz. glasses of vegetable and green juices every day, a glass or two about 20 minutes before meals. Juicing is a great way to get lots of nutrition and live enzymes into your system that you would not be able to get from eating, because there’s just no way you could fit that much food in your stomach, but drinking the juice of a mountain of produce is easy. My rate of improvement increased exponentially once I started juicing.
My big issue right now is problems with my teeth and gums. I went to a dentist 6 months ago and had to undergo a few sessions of scaling and planing due to periodontal disease that came out of nowhere. At a follow-up visit, he found a lesion in my mouth that freaked him out enough that he was talking about doing a biopsy on it if it didn’t go away, which naturally freaked me out. It took longer than the time limit he gave for it to go away, but it finally did.
During that time, I was flipping out, worried that I had oral cancer and googling natural remedies like crazy, which is what led me to start juicing among other super health nut activities. Interestingly enough, aggressively implementing natural anti-cancer remedies ended up putting my healing from being floxed on the fast track. I found that there is a lot of cross-over between the things that help floxies and what helps cancer patients. I guess it makes sense. In each case the body has been dealt a devastating blow and needs extreme support to heal itself. I’m still working on trying to pin down the exact connections. So far, I have come up with poor gut flora, liver toxicity, and pancreatic insufficiency.
Friday evening, I noticed that some new lesions popped up in my mouth overnight, and it looks like they quickly ate away at some tissue. I’ll probably have to see the dentist again. Now I’m thinking that what’s actually going on is that I’m having bouts of trench mouth. I’m noticing that it improves with oil pulling, salt water rinses, religious brushing and flossing, applications of baking soda, and increasing the amount of garlic I consume.
I didn’t have any tooth and gum issues prior to being floxed. I’m not going to chalk this one up to aging, since I’d already done that with other symptoms that turned out to be the result of FQ toxicity. I’m pretty sure I have Levaquin to thank for this too.

Jane and Kel, sorry to hear about all the crap you’ve had to go through, glad to hear things are finally getting better.
I actually have a juicer and should use it, but what I have been doing that for sure helps is just putting lots of Kale, Broccoli and Spinach into my Magic Bullet with a mix of some supplements (couple things for joints, MCT oil, Vit C, Fish Oil, crushed flax seed, whey protein, hemp protein, turmeric & couple more) with a little coconut milk and water and it makes a great tasting nutritious shake every morning. As you say its a pretty easy way to pack a big nutritious punch.
Scroll down until you see the first review and watch the video there. Its probably worth a try, apparently it works for that person. I am trying it myself as my gums receded from too rigorous brushing (and possibly a past floxing not sure) but I only just started and have not been vigilant enough in doing it daily so have nothing to report myself at the moment.

Hi everybody
I’m sorry that my comments last days have begotten a sort of little controversy… I’m Swiss, I have to be neutral 😉
I’m grateful of any advises and I appreciate so much your support. those “controversy messages show that everybody is different and have to find the right path to heal. I’m trying to find my one, it has a lot of detours 😉
I’m always trying to stop smoking, I smoke less but I smoke… next step is to cut of.
I have a few question. Since yersterday the outer hedge of my heel hurts my hard. It happens without raison. I’hope that’s not fq related… Mmmmh try to be hopefull and not related everythings to fq (ok I know that’s probably fq related) 😉 but I don’t want any antiinflammatory drugs. So I have comfrey ointment and pills with turmeric, blackcurrent and harpagophytum in it, wich are natural antiinflammatory. Can I use those things? and what about gaultheria essential oil?
Thank for the answer. I think of everbody working hard to get better.

Mike out.
Hey@all,
Has anyone tried out prescript assist yet?

One thing about teeth and gums, look here:

Scroll down until you see the first review and watch the video there. Its probably worth a try, apparently it works for that person. I am trying it myself as my gums receded from too rigorous brushing (and possibly a past floxing not sure) but I only just started and have not been vigilant enough in doing it daily so have nothing to report myself at the moment.
Does the magnesium oil help with the peripheral neuropathy symptoms?
