Brooke,
Take Magnesium ASAP. Magnesium chelates fluoroquinolones (which means it binds the molecule up to make it ineffective) Taking magnesium will be more effective for you since you just finished your last pill. (probably not as effective for someone like me who took my last pill over 3 years ago) You will have a good amount of Cipro still floating around in your body, the magnesium will help make it inactive. If I were you I would take the highest (safe) amount possible.

Okay, mag oil people. Renee, I know you’re out there! I have been trying magnesium chloride spray lately. I know that the bottle says 10 sprays equals about 150 mg of magnesium. I also know that many recommend 10-20 sprays per day. That said, I found a document put out by the ancient minerals people and an article from Dr. Sircus that both suggest a massive dose of oil, not the 10-20 spray type. The ancient minerals article says 100 sprays per day, and Dr. Sircus states that about an ounce per day is right. Those little spray bottles are 8 ounces. Can you imagine going through one in 8 days?! There’s got to be 1000+ sprays in there! My point here is that some are suggesting a much larger dose of magnesium chloride than a few sprays per day. Anyone tried this?

I know this might be a huge no no, but has anyone tried taking ativan or muscle relaxers (that are NOT NSAIDS) ??? this whole thing is weird. I don’t have any one particular spot that hurts. The overall pain just comes and goes, but its like overall sorness and stiffness…
Hi everyone, I wonder if anyone has had a similar experience to what is happening to me at the moment, or could possibly shed some light on what’s going on?
Been bedbound now for 2 years, with multiple horrifying symptoms 24/7. The only glimmer of light was that I had a few days every month, just before my period, when I would feel very slightly better and life was bearable. The knowledge that those few days would happen enabled me to survive the rest of the month. But for the past two months, I have been feeling even worse premenstrually instead. I have no idea why things have suddenly changed after 2 years. But now I’ve lost the only better days I had, I don’t feel that I can take any more. If anyone has any light to shed on this I would be very grateful.

Wanted to add, i think our gabba A receptors was fried up with these chemical poisons, so people in benzo withdrawal suffer with the same symptoms, so read http://www.recovery-road.org/success-stories
, im not a medical doctor but a layman with a opinion – I dont go to doctors any more (thats just me), I dont know what im going to do if i must go to the dentist, by the way i still have mercury fillings, off cause they will tell you it doesnt do anything.
Also read how dangerous drugs can be – beyondmeds.com
i will try some epsom salt baths and mag spray, and can anyone tell me what they think of this purple rice, problem is i sit in RSA how do i get it? i cant trust any other suppliers.
Thanks Lisa for this site, you once told me, Im also welcome on this site.

Thanks for all the replies to my vision questions!! Much appreciated! I’m looking into vision therapy…not sure if it will help, but I figure it is worth a try. On to another question, what type of magnesium does everyone use? I have been using Mercola’s Magnesium L- Threonate for about 30 days now and not really sure that it is the best one. Thanks!

Anyone with diagnosis of small fiber neuropathy heal? I have tingling and prickling in both legs and feet. Nerve tests, including punch biopsy normal but subjective test by chiropractor said small fiber nerve damage. I would do anything to hear from others who had prickling/tingling/sensitivity and had it get better over time – would give me hope to keep pushing!! Thank you ! It seems like most heal from tendon /joint pain . I have healed from most neurological stuff such as memory loss, tenors, insomnia, anxiety etc. but at 17 months this final symptom won’t give up! Thanks to all- hoping for positive feedback rather than many telling me I’m doomed:) even if it takes another year I’m hoping toxic nerve damage can indeed heal.
You know, when I post, I can never figure out how to start a new post. But I just posted in reply to one in my inbox. Perhaps you can find a way to make it more visible? I think it is important. This is what I wrote:
I just got an email for Consumer Reports Best Buy Drugs, one of which was about sleeping pills. I am forced to take this at night because one of my side effects is breathing difficulties–almost to the point of feeling like I am suffocating. The couple hours “sleep” I get is the only reprieve from constant shortness of breath (along of course with the myriad other pains). I noticed at the end they said “we want to hear from you” so I went to their consumer report best buy drug page on facebook and wrote a paragraph on what I am going through. This is my second attempt to get them to do a piece on the fluoroquinolones. How about more messages to them please?

Heather- did you have any muscle twitching? Problems standing or walking?. My pain is all in my quads when standing or walking which to some people may not seem that bad since it’s not widespread but it’s REALLY bad pain. I can’t seem to figure out how to heal there. I stretch and try to walk but it hurts. I have done OT which rebuilt muscle but didn’t alleviate pain. Thx again!!
Ask for Cipro ask for Fluoroquinolones common everybody don’t sleep on it. :/

Melanie,
I had an eye exam a little over 10 years ago because my vision was bad, photosensitive, seemed like I was missing parts of my vision… little did I know I was floxed from taking Levaquin for a sinus infection. I did not relate cause and effect. The eye doc said my eyes were fine so I moved on with life and eventually they recovered. I’m glad that they didn’t find anything wrong with your retinas.

Well, I tried taking a daily antihistamine to stop the daily reactions to foods, but I began having additional reactions to the antihistamine!
I wonder if at least part of being “floxed” is due to leaky gut? Any thoughts?

Thank you for your comments. I was recently told about purchasing a quality Probiotic (not settleling on a less effective, lower cost supplement). I’m hoping to find the best program to follow. From what I have read thus far, It seems it will probably take at least a few years to recover.

Hi all. There has been some talk about Gaba, pain relief, and Benzo’s on this page and I wanted to make a quick post about this and what has helped me in regards to these things and also for Insomnia.
We know some of the negative CNS effects Floxies experience are due to interference with our GABA. Here is a little info on GABA: GABA or gamma-Aminobutyric acid is the natural alternative to benzodiazepines. It regulates anxiety, muscle spasms, depression, and chronic stress. GABA depletion can lead to chronic pain, illness, panic attacks, crying, back pain, rapid heartbeat, insomnia, neck pain, difficulty breathing, headaches, suicidal thoughts, and death.
Quote from above ” In conclusion, our findings suggest that clinically observed CNS adverse effects of fluoroquinolones could be mediated at least in part through interaction with the BZD-GABAA-receptor complex and may be controlled by BZD agonist administration”
The study linked to above, finds that some of these negative effects could be mitigated through taking Benzos. Obviously this is not a great course of action, fighting fire with fire so to speak (yet another chemical based drug with some very nasty effects, Lisa mentioned a couple above), and of course there are more natural ways to positively effect GABA receptors:
– GABA – Now foods makes a Gaba supplement, I am currently taking this and Gaba is also one of the ingredients in a great sleep supplement I found. This supplement helped me yesterday when I had a terrible case of brain fog brought on by a Mercola Whey protein bar (which contains Glutamate by nature, and has the opposite effect of Gaba), I took the Gaba and an hour later my Brain Fog was largely alleviated. I just started this supplement recently so I can not speak to how it might help a Floxie in other ways than Brian Fog or Sleep, but it seems it sure could.
– Valerian Root – Can use as a supplement and/or Tea. This is also in my sleep supplement and I have used the tea as well and it works. Valerian interacts with the benzodiazepine sites in the brain by binding to them, and this increases the availability of GABA in brain cells
– AOR Brand Ortho Sleep – This is a GREAT sleep supplement that works excellent for me and has many helpful ingredients including: GABA, L-theonine, L-5-Hydroxytyptophan, Melatonin, Valerian Root, Passion Flower, Lemon Balm. Not sure if available in USA or other places which is why I listed ingredients so hopefully people can find something similar
Noni (Morinda citrifolia) – I have not used this to date. A study published in the August 2007 issue of “Phytomedicine” found that an extract of noni fruit showed a preference for binding to GABAa receptors, enhancing the availability of GABA and producing sedative and anti-anxiety effects.
Dong Quai – I have not used this to date. A study reported in the November 2006 issue of “Phytochemical Analysis” found that an extract of dong quai root contains two organic compounds, gelispirolide and riligustilide, which can bind to GABAa receptors
Gotu kola (Centella asiatica) – I have used this but only in small amounts, I would be more weary of this one due to the glutamic acid link noted in study: A study published in the September 2007 issue of the “Canadian Journal of Physiology and Pharmacology” found that gotu kola increases GABA levels in the brain by stimulating glutamic acid decarboxylase, an enzyme involved in the production of GABA.
——–
All of the above directly effect Gaba in some way. Here are a few more helpful things:
Tart Cherry – Find a good quality supplement and/or juice concentrate, not cheap crap full of fillers. This will help some with pain relief, joint pain, and with sleep as it promotes Melatonin production. I am using this in both concentrate and supplement form and it helps
Magnesium – Tons already said about this, helps with sleep, pain, PN, and much more. The oil is probably the most effective for pain relief and alleviating PN, spray on where needed. I am taking roughly 6 different kinds of MAG and it helped/helps a lot.
Turmeric – I posted about this and a few other things further up page for pain. As was recommended by someone here rub directly into joints, muscles and tendons for INSTANT pain relief (but beware it is very messy and will stain clothes and other things). I tried this and it worked excellent.
Hyland’s Calms Forte – This is homeopathic medicine to aid sleep, I use it combined with some of the other things above and it seems to help. (I’ve never taken it alone so its hard to tell how much it works as opposed to the AOR option which I know does)
A. Vogel Absolut Arnica – Fast acting pain relief for muscles, tendons & joints and helps to reduce inflammation. This is a GREAT natural alternative to Voltaren, which works but is another NSAID and chemical based garbage. I am using this currently and it works.
Hydrotherapy – I made a long post about this close to bottom of last page. I find just using the cold water and ice part of it works for reducing inflammation, pain relief and can shut off PN as well. I find this VERY important for me since I have suffered from tons of inflammation, tendon and joint issues even before I was Floxed, it really works.
Hope that helps some of you, the ones I use definitely help me 🙂
