Here’s a hopey post for you all: I was poisoned in 21st July 2009 and have had a foul time.
Yesterday, I was in my friends’ olive groves, walking, running aboyut playing with their dogs and even helping to move heavy objects and do proper, useful, physical work.
I slept beautifull and this morning I could hardly move, but now it’s lunchtime and I’m already eager to have another go!
What’s helped most? Time – it’ll take as long as it takes. Ubication (place – in my case being up a mountain is much better for me; also a dry climate. Homeopathy – appropriate remedies for certain symptoms helped a lot and the tinnitus was completely banished with two pills. Friendship, laughter, animals and plants., fresh air, kindness. Not being bitter or blaming doctors, etc.

Hi, just last week I had a reaction to just one pill of Cypro. I was in Haiti at the time. Took one pill and had body tremors, heart palpitations and numbness and tingling in my hands. A haitian doctor diagnosed it as a reaction to the cypro and gave me benedryl. My symptoms subsided throughout the day. I’m wondering if I will have any ongoing symptoms or symptoms that will show up later. Any advice of what I should be watching for? Should I go to a doctor here in the states now? I really don’t have any more symptoms except that I’m really tired. Not sure if that is from this or something else. Thanks.

Hi everyone,
I am 19/Male/Canadian
I was prescribed a 40 day course of Cipro 500mg by my dr. for a case of prostatitis. I completely finished my course of the antibiotics without any symptoms what so ever. However, Its been 6 days since my final pill and ever since, I have been feeling tightness in all my joints, anxiety that has now subsided significantly, twitching of my leg muscles, pins and needles in my feet, and burning in my feet. I am very scared. i am terrified.
Is this the beginning of floxie hell for me? Is it all down hill from here? I just need some answers. I went to the Dr recently and did a blood test. Everything came back normal. My symptoms have been getting worse daily except for my anxiety which is now OK, however still there.
I attend College and am doing my BA. I have an amazing family and an incredibly supportive girlfriend who has been with me every step of the way since these symptoms have arisen,
I can easily live with these side effects as they are pretty mild so far. However I am worried they will go crazy these next few days and the pain will significantly increase.
I am scared. I pray everyday, I take magnesium, I take probiotics, and I take vitamin B6.
Is it too late? Am i done for? Is there any chance that this is all mild and will remain constant (im ok with that) I just dont want them to get worse. 🙁
Thanks and I hope everyone heals. I really do. I feel terrible for anyone who has been poisoned by this terrible Anti biotic. I will pray for everyone who has been affected. And if anyone needs someone to talk to. I am here for you.
Thank You Lisa and everyone else
God Bless.

Does anyone now have Raynaud’s since being floxed? I am wondering if this symptom ever disappears? Is it part of peripheral neuropathy when your hands and feet get cold? Mine are cold, but they also turn pale white when pressure is applied then turn back bright red.
Thanks,
Amy

Hi Lisa,
Thanks for your help all the time.
Questions about muscle twitch ….
By muscle twitch, I mean the spontaneous movement of the muscles for several seconds.Looks and feels like bubbles under the skin.
Some people put it on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CPXubhWC9ls
I noticed you mentioned in your floxed history “muscle twitch” — “Magnesium. I take 250 mg of chelated magnesium daily. I don’t necessarily notice that it makes me feel better, but I do notice that I feel worse when I don’t take it. My muscles twitch if I don’t take my mag.”
Not sure whether the “twitch” is the same as what I described above.
Q: Did Magnesium helped you on the twitch?
My flox timeline:
July 2013: Cipros
August: feet pains. only on feet.
Oct: 10 days of NSAIDs
Nov: pains spread to all over the body on the joints.
Jan. 2014: began to show some muscle spasms. Not much.
Now (Feb~March 2014): muscle spasms a lot. I just have been trying Magnesium for 4 days, 500mg/day.. The tendon pain gets better after I take Magnesium. The muscle twitches are still there.
Hi Lisa
Thanks for quick response and your wonderful work of building this forum. It really helps me a lot, and helps many others as I can see.
“Are you able to exercise at all? I think that exercise also helped me to get rid of my muscle twitches. If you can’t, I don’t think that it’s the only solution. But if you can, it may help.”
—-
Exercise. I can swim a little bit, that is all I can do.
I used to run 40 kms per week for many years, and used to do rock climbing, mountain climing with 50 lbs on my back…., and used to run half marathons. Now I can swim slowly 20 mins/day. Also I spent quite some time in the hot tub and the steam room in the aquatic so that I can sweat. Not sure whether sweating can help squeezing the bad staff (FQ or its byproduct … ) out of my body, but I guess it might be.
“I hope that this symptom, and all of your other symptoms, resolve! Are your muscle twitches painful? Mine weren’t. They were odd and somewhat scary, but they weren’t painful.”
My muscle twitches are not painful. After I read your description, I trust your twitching is the same as mine and Lane’s. It does feel weird though 🙂
cheers

BTW, Lisa, I have to ask this question…. because your pre-flox status was very much like mine.
Can you do the hiking and backpacking now ? I understand that you may not or will not backpack that much weight you used to.
Can you do some running without pain … say, 5 or 8 Kms now ?
I ask the questions because I wish to see some people who was athlete, got floxed, and then recovers to be almost athlete (or half athlete lets say) again. If somebody can, then there is hope 🙂
I only wish I could go back to the mountains again. The time in the mountains is my best time in my life.
I always trust I can recover, and there is always something else good to do when I can not run or climb. Say, I can use the time to learn some computer programming.
cheers

Do people sometimes get diagnosed with fibromyalgia that have fq toxicity? Does fibromyalgia ever go away? I am scared to go to the dr. b/c I don’t want this diagnosis if it has been caused by the medicine that I took. Just curious what others thought. Thanks!

Kim, do not lose hope!!! I am the same way…scared to take anything. I think your body and faith will tell you when it is okay again. I started to take steroids to ease the pain in my neck, but after just two pills I could tell it was not right and stopped. How much medicine caused your floxing? Stay strong and positive!!! Have your symptoms improved at all??

Did anyone have a burning taste in their mouth? Mine feels like that on my tounge when I eat certain things then when I swallow. It’s not a metallic taste, but everything just tastes different. Just wanted to know if anyone else experienced this symptom. Sorry I am asking so many questions about symptoms! Just a new one that came up in the past week! Luckily the all over pain is diminishing GREATLY!!!! Have FAITH!

Does floxing cause circulation problems? My feet and legs always feel cold, but today they have turned a horrible mottled blue/black and red, which is scaring me a bit. Has anyone else had this, and did anything help?
Thanks
Hi! Has anyone heard of the doTerra Vitality Pack vitamins? I know they are expensive, but I have had friends that have used them for joint pain and has helped them tremendously. Just wondering if anyone else has heard of them or knows anything.
Such a coincidence! I have been taking USANA supplement for months too. It’s hard to find floxie who take USANA and i’m surprised you take this range.
USANA is introduced by my acupuncturist. she is an affiliates (err..) but her whole family is taking, including herself. she truly and deeply believe in them. no doubt it’s very expensive. i can find similar supplement for a fraction of price or lesser. but since i am under her care, i eat what she recommend.
i bought the same items you listed too.
and i noticed no significant decrease in pain
that’s what saddened me.
usana don’t sell magnesium by itself. which brand of magnesium are you taking?
thanks, Bo

Hi all.
I’d like to ask a question about tendon recovery please..
I’ve taken on board a lot of information from this site and luckily I’ve been recovering steadily. I’m 4 months out and after the first two months the pain and pins and needles in my hands and arms subsided. I’ve waited a few months then tried lifting some light weights just to start to strengthen my tendons, muscles as I’ve found so far that continuing to swim and cycle as helped my recovery a lot. However, two thursdays ago I tried slightly heavier with weights and now ended up with what feels like tendinitus in my elbows. I’ve rested them, iced etc but still the pain is there and worse thing is the pain is now back in my hands along with clicking in my forearms and shooting pains Which i had previously resolved. I don’t quite know what I was thinking by lifting heavier!! Stupid me……
Has anyone else had a setback like this and if its resolved once before is it likely to resolve again??
The other niggle I have is what I can only describe as insertional achilles tendinitis which I’ve had for a month or so. Started as pins and needles for a few months in my ankles which was getting better but after 4 long days on my feet when moving house i had no choice but to go back to docs as the heel pain was so bad I was hobbling around. I have an mri this friday to check for damage to my achilles tendons as I’m involved heavily in sport so wanted to know if there was any significant damage.
I’m so annoyed with myself right now as I was doing everything right, diet, light exercise, keeping positive etc but feel like I’ve reversed everything now and worried it will go back the same as my first reaction!
I don’t know what to do now… it’s so frustrating and worrying.
Thank you so much for any help or advice you can give me. Lisa this website has been a god send.
