Impie’s Story – Fluoroquinolone Toxicity Recovery

I have been floxed at least 4 times since November 2015 (60 FQ tablets over two year period!!!). I had no idea what was wrong with me and spent thousands on doctor bills.

It all started during November 2015 when I went for a routine check-up with my physician. At the time I had no health issues, just a routine check-up. He did some urine sampling and performed the normal routine tests. The urine test indicated white blood cells in my urine. He prescribed a Levaquin antibiotic called Tavanic 500mg for “in case” I have a UTI. I finished the 7-day course. While on the medication I experienced anxiety, lower back pain, muscle weakness and a feeling like I had a pinched nerve in my lower back. I communicated all this to my doctor who never mentioned that it could be the FQ (Fluoroquinolone) side effects.

He referred me to a Urologist, who long story short prescribed about 3 courses of Ciprobay 1000mg over 2 months which I finished! During this time my anxiety got worse, lower back pain and feeling of pinched nerves continued. I suffered from fatigue and tendon pain. He also performed a very painful cystoscopy only to find nothing wrong with me. By February 2016 I have taken 7 Levaquin tablets and about 30 Cyprobay tablets. For about 8 months I struggled with all the symptoms mentioned.

During October 2016 I started feeling better. I recovered to a point where I won a silver medal in the South African biathlon championships and took part in many long-distance triathlons and half marathons. Through all of this I would struggle with ankle and tendon pain, on and off as well as back pain.

Then, during December my doc, again picked up white blood cells in my urine and boom, Cyprobay 1000 was prescribed. I took 10 tablets. This time I only had mild symptoms to start off which slowly escalated during Jan to May 2017. My symptoms included: Tremors, muscle pain and weakness, tendon pain all over, dizziness, weakness in left hand, crawling sensation under skin, pain behind my eyes, feeling of a swim cap being pulled over my brain, anxiety, tension headaches, ringing in my ears etc.

I saw many specialists including, neurologists, orthopaedic surgeons, physicians etc. They did just about every you can do, MRI and CT scans etc. I had amalgam fillings removed and jaw cavities cleaned out. I spent thousands on doctors. Then the cherry on the cake came in June 2017 when one of the physicians I saw for a second opinion decided to put me on Avelox just “in case” I have an ear infection.

My symptoms got worse by the day. No one could tell me what was wrong. I eventually put 2 and 2 together by searching the internet. During August 2017 I realised that the Fluoroquinolone antibiotics poisoned me.

First thing I did was to chuck out every single western pharmaceutical drug I could find in my house. I read a book called “Pharmakeia the silent assassin”. I realised that western medicine is poison most of the time. PS, did you know that the greek word “Pharmakeia” can be translated to:

  1. The use or the administering of drugs
  2. poisoning
  3. sorcery, magical arts, often found in connection with idolatry and fostered by it
  4. the deceptions and seductions of idolatry

Interesting hey?

Anyway, my intention is not to scare anyone, I want to tell you about how God guided me through all of this, opening doors and closing doors in order for me to heal.

I joined the Fluoroquinolone toxicity group on facebook as well as Christian Floxies. I also spend some time on Floxiehope reading recovery stories and gaining knowledge. I changed my diet completely, eating only organic veg, fruit and meat. I avoided diary and as much as possible. Initially I took the following supplements:

  • VIT C,
  • VIT D3,
  • Magnesium,
  • Iodine,
  • CoQ10,
  • NAC,
  • ALC,
  • Omega 3,
  • sellenium
  • Collagen

I did not take all of it at the same time, experimenting with it on and off for 5 months. I also had three glutathione and Meyers cocktail IV’s which I think helped a bit. The most “way-out” thing I did was injecting myself with a peptide called BPC 157 which has not been approved to be used by humans but are very successful in treating animals to heal tendons.

I never stopped moving despite the gradual decline in my ability to run, swim and cycle. It was very hard for me as I could run a 5km in less than 20 minutes one day and a month later I could not run at all, so, I walked. I would force myself to walk 4 times a day for at least 500m. I also messaged and iced my muscles and tendons and stretched them as much as possible.

Then, God opened a door which would make all the difference. I have been praying for a Christian, alternative doctor for a while. I found one on a farm in a very remote place in the mountains. I could only get there with an off-road truck. What an amazing experience. This doctor lives in the middle of nowhere almost completely off the grid. He performed life blood tests and a quantum physics test which indicated some DNA damage, but not irreversible. The machine “healed”/”corrected” some imbalances right there. After 4 hours I walked out of there with the following which changed my condition within two weeks. (The beauty of this plan is that it was uniquely tailored for me as an individual. Also note that this is by no means medical advice, I am merely sharing what worked for me.)So here we go:

  • Organic eating
  • Clean water (distilled with added minerals)
  • Exercise (careful exercise)
  • Eating plan which took into account:
    1. my blood group
    2. PH balance in my body
    3. Food combinations (never realised how important this is)
    4. Cutting out alcohol, caffeine, diary and gluten
  • Supplements:
    1. Magnesium formulation
    2. Advanced PH balance
    3. Berry C Formulation
    4. Omega 3
    5. Multi nutrient/vitamin
    6. Concentrace (trace mineral supplement)
    7. Potassium
    8. PhytoSaccharides
    9. MSM
    10. Selenium
    11. Resveratrol (This stuff is amazing, lifted my energy levels after the first dose)

I have realised that even though fluoroquinolones caused my body to break, that it was only the straw that broke the camels back. I belief that an unhealthy lifestyle that included quick fixes and instant pleasures such as refined food, pesticide contaminated fruit and veg, antibiotic pumped meat and non-organic food as well as polluted air, unclean water and western medication/poison will break you. It is just a matter of time.

Our bodies are amazing though. I belief that healing will take place when you remove toxins and add the building blocks for a healthy body. The cycle is 6-12 months and patience is required

Today 23 February 2018 I would say that I am 95% healed. My only lasting symptom is head pressure and dizziness, but I do belief this will go in time. I am running Cycling and swimming again. I am competing in our provincial championships on the 28th of February and very excited to get back into competitive sports. I really did not think I will ever be able to compete again. I see this as my second chance to a good life. My eyes have opened to a corrupt world out there. There is no money in healthy people, so why would big corporates be interested in healing people?

I want to encourage anyone who is struggling with FQ toxicity to hang in there. Give your body what it needs to heal and remove the toxins. I read a study which indicates that 97% of our bodies will regenerate itself over a 12-month period. You become what you take in. If you take in toxins, you will become toxic and the other way around.

Last thing I want to mention, targeted supplementing worked best for me. Just taking supplements for the sake of it did not work. I realised that you can make things worse if you just drink stuff and hope. Research everything and take control of your own health. No one knows your body better than yourself.

Be blessed and happy healing to you all.

Impie, your story is as inspiring as your name! Love what you said about keeping moving. I waited a long time to have the courage that you had to get moving again, but when I did, the recovery progress really took off. Thanks for your story!

Hi Bryan, so glad to here that you are also on the road to recovery. I am competing in the WP champs this evening for biathlon. There is so much hope. Not only did the change in lifestyle help me heal, it also left me in better shape. I am achieving better results in my sport than pre-flox days. Hang in there an keep on moving.

thank you for sharing your story, I am a bodybuilder and the idea of telling me that I’m going to make a lot of good

    • Impie February 28, 2018 at 6:14 am Reply

Gerard, no matter what your body tells you, you have to belief that you will get better. That belief is 50% of the battle. At times I would cry myself asleep, worrying about my wife and three beautiful daughters and how they would cope without a dad. So not always easy to have faith. But focus on one day at a time. Give your body what it needs to heal and it will. There is no short cuts but a belief any illness on this planet can be healed.

    Hi Ursula

The doctors name is Charl du Randt. He is not a medical doctor but a Naturopath with more than 30 years of experience. He had a practice in Cape Town for 30 years where he successfully treated many patients with all kinds of diseases and illnesses. He then packed up and moved to a farm close to van Wyksdorp. Here is a link to his website. http://metabole.com/

I live in Cape Town. I have my own veggie garden where I grow the leavy stuff. The rest I buy online from wild organics. Not sure if they deliver in pretoria.

Hi Impie. I love your story. I too am an athlete, 4 months out. Symptoms are getting worse. Mainly cracking/ popping all over my body, GI issues, floaters and muscle weight loss (25lbs at my worst) I am hopeful for a return to the gym and football. Did you have any of my symptoms? If so how long until they subsided?

      • Impie March 1, 2018 at 9:37 am Reply

Hi Shane. I had the same. I woke up one morning and literally swung my arms gently in order to loosen my muscles and joints. I ended up with micro tears in both shoulders. I had the popping for months. I lost 14 kg’s from 78kgs down to 64kgs. To answer your question, It took me 6 months of focused, exercise, eating and supplementing before I got better. But once the improvement started I found that it happened quickly. Your body needs the building blocks to recover. If you don’t give it and take away toxins, I suspect it will take longer. I am convinced though that you can get back to the gym, but you need focus and patience.

        • Shane March 1, 2018 at 9:44 am

I appreciate your response. I have been on a fairly strict clean diet, with a lot of supplementation targeted at nutrient deficiency and restoring damaged cells. I am hoping to turn this around. Glad to hear you’re active again and enjoying life.

        • Shane March 6, 2018 at 6:26 pm

I would love to speak to you via email or Skype to ask a few questions since your story seems similar to mine if that is possible.

Impie well done on your recovery did you inject the box 157 intramuscular so it healed systematically

    • Impie March 15, 2018 at 10:14 pm Reply

Hi Andy. I only did about 8 injection mostly into fatty part of tummy. I though it made some difference but biopuncture worked so much better for me personally.

      • greendingy June 20, 2018 at 2:29 pm Reply

Hi Impie, if you get this note could you clarify what Biopuncture is? Thanks.

While I am glad to read of someone who healed relatively quickly. I have noticed many athletes get floxed. I ruptured an ankle tendon six and a half inches 8 years ago and had no idea it was from Cipro, because it happened seven months after. I don’t like to encourage people to exercise when floxed and having pain in a tendon because this happened to me. I am now 9 months out of being floxed again, and still, have problems walking and have significant pain daily. I cannot walk far at all and am mostly housebound.I would never push myself at this point. I was once extremely athletic. But this is not my goal now. A surgeon ruined a nerve root in my neck 13 years ago, so I have been injured for a long time now. Both are the faults of doctors. But I am not angry. Just unlucky. I am 63. I just want to walk again! I once walked 60 miles in 3 days! I want to paint again and have the energy it takes to be the artist I was. I am going to an acupuncturist soon and wanted to know about “Biopuncturing”. Take care and thanks for sharing your story!!!!

        • Impie June 21, 2018 at 12:22 am

          Hi there.

Biopuncture is a therapy whereby specific locations are injected with biological products. The majority of the products are derived from plants. Most of these injections are given into the skin or into muscles. Homeopathic doctors administer these.

Full disclosure, I am having a setback at the moment. I pushed myself very hard between Jan and March this year. It went well for most part but my Achilles flared up beginning March and has gotten worse since. I am now one year post cypro. I would say that my health is hovering between 80% and 95% healed depending on the day. I do belief that it will take a little longer before I am 100%. I did cheat with my diet for a while as well. And yes, I am now more convinced than ever before that I can heal but all depends on whether you give your body the ammunition to heal.

All the best and don’t ever stop believing as your body is an amazing thing, it can heal.

    Hi Impie,

Thank you for your story. Has the eye pain stopped? Any residual vision issues?

    • Impie March 15, 2018 at 10:12 pm Reply

Hi Tara, the eye pain has improved a lot, but still together with pressure on brain and behind eyes still a lingering symptom. I am sure it will be gone soon though as it has impya lot.

      • Anna September 16, 2018 at 10:11 am Reply

Impie, can you tell us how your eyes are doing? My number one symptom from Cipro was pain behind eyes, feeling of eye stiffness, and at one point extreme light sensitivity. Now, I am only left with swelling directly under the eye. Did you also have swelling around the eye? I am wondering what happened to the eye. Eye doctor determined eye itself is healthy, so that only leaves the possibility of tendons, muscles begin affected or an autoimmune response to the medication.

        • Impie September 18, 2018 at 3:47 am

Hi Anna. I still have this on and off, but not as severe as before. It seems to be improving slowly. I am just keeping up the clean living, believing that all symptoms will eventually go.
I think and this is just my opinion that the eye symptoms relate to small ligaments and tendons in and around the eye struggling.

        • Anna September 18, 2018 at 6:51 am

Impie, thanks for your reply. I think you might be right, it makes sense, that it’s the tendons around the eye tightening. In my case I think it caused some swelling or for the fat pad to buckle a bit under the eye.

  8. Tara March 16, 2018 at 5:52 am Reply

Did you have floaters or other visual snow effects in your vision? Did your vision change at all? I took the medication in October, 2016. Any thoughts as to what causes the awful pressure feeling? I had the tight band feeling and still have that terrible pressure-cooker feeling when I take my glasses off… It’s not there all the time anymore when I am wearing the glasses, but it comes in waves. I have had it for a few days again after not having it for several months (with the glasses on).

    • Anna September 16, 2018 at 10:14 am Reply

Yes, I too had this pressure and pain behind the eye. When my eye reaction first happened it was the most intense, with horrible light sensitivity and eye tightness. Now, I have slight aching behind the eye, and swelling around the eye. Eye doctor determined the eye itself is healthy, so something is occurring with tendons, muscles or sinus cavity maybe. Any ideas what the aching is about? Did you have any swelling around the eye?

Thank you so much for this blessed testimony of recovery I am 2 months out from floxed I immediately started on some of the suggested supplements. This does give me hope for recovery as trying to eat as clean as possible. Do u feel the Bpc 157 helped or made a difference? Only some of the joint muscle pain subsided (comes & goes) but the neuropathy & gut issue is still there is why I ask. I’m on a really good mineral multivitamin to Tangy Tangerine Thanks for any insights & for this wonderful encouragement today

    • Impie June 21, 2018 at 12:26 am Reply

Hi Jennifer, Apologies for the late reply. I am not a doctor, but in my humble opinion (which changed a lot over the past year as I experienced with many things) I belief our bodies take 6-12month to regenerate itself. If you commit for that time to keep it super clean and take targeted supplements, healing is inevitable.

Did anyone have really bad mental issues with this. I got hit hard. Does this get better and how long does it take to feel somewhat better mentally? I feel spaced out anxious irritable depressed flight or fight and feeling like I’ll end up being mentally insane.

    • Tara March 29, 2018 at 1:33 pm Reply

Yes… all of the above! It can ebb and flow for awhile. I’m 18 months out and slowly things are returning to normal. It is the scariest thing you can go through in my opinion, but just remember that it is the effects of the medication on your nervous system. Even when you get to a dark place, remember that better days are ahead. Hang in there. I had just about every nervous system side effect possible!

Sounds much more like a case of chronic lyme disease. Hence the white blood cells that keep coming back elavated. Look up herximer reaction to antibiotics due to lyme disease and symptoms of lyme disease. Hope that helps!
