Tony’s Story – Recovery from Cipro Toxicity

My name is Tony and here is my story.

I have been “floxed” twice not knowing what “floxed” was until the second time. The first time was about 8 years ago. I was 20 years old and took Cipro for an infection. I had a bad reaction after finishing the prescription but never pin pointed or would have figured it was the Cipro. I had joint pain and severe insomnia for a while and ever since then I was never the same. l would get recurring throat and sinus infections , fatigue, memory problems and more for the next 8 years. Since then I have been taking antibiotics for the recurring infections. I believe what kept me going was my active lifestyle and age. Always going to the gym, working, school, and tried to eat as healthy as possible for physical goal purposes. What probably helped then was all the supplements I would take for the gym.

8 years later, December 2016. I was having sharp abdominal pains that would come and go. I couldn’t take it anymore so I went to a doctor that suspected ulcers and prescribed me Cipro for ten days. On the second day of taking it a flare of symptoms manifested at once. Extreme Joint pain, digestion problems, hallucinations, mood swings, mental state changes, strong heart palpitations, insomnia, and a strong sense of fear, anxiety. For a few months I had trouble walking as my legs felt as they were jelly. I looked up Cipro side effects and there it was. WARNING CIPRO. An article explaining how dangerous this type of antibiotic can be and should only be given in life threatening situations such as anthrax. Reading that did not help at all and added to the anxiety I was getting. I had to be hospitalized and they found nothing through blood work, endoscopy and colonoscopy. The doctors only said it was an allergic reaction to Cipro and symptoms would subside. I DIDN’T EVEN HAVE ULCERS!!! I had to drop out from college and was absent or late to work quite a bit. Thankfully my employer is flexible and worked with me during the hard times. I am extremely grateful for having loving parents as they let me move in with them since I couldn’t really take care of my self. I was going through all these symptoms for about 5 months until I found an acupuncture that started changing my life around. When he treated me Joint pain subsided and my digestion improved. I forgot to mention that I lost 35lbs in the first month after taking Cipro. So yes I am finally gaining some weight. I also found floxie hope that helped immensely with supplement suggestions from fellow floxies. Through floxie hope i was able to gain an understanding of what was really going on with my body.

I was getting blood work done occasionally and some things would come out abnormal such as liver enzymes, high bilirubin, low vitamin d levels, and thyroid. One doctor diagnosed me with Gilbert’s syndrome and that its something I shouldn’t worry about. Another doctor diagnosed me with hypothyroid and prescribed me a hormone medication which I did not take and healed my thyroid through diet change with some help of another naturopath doctor that I found here in my home town. I started to trust more the naturopath doctors than the MDs and decided to use them just for blood work. Now the only symptoms I get are brain fog, memory problems, extreme fatigue, fear that comes and goes, abdominal pains that come and go, and some anxiety but a very low level of anxiety. Also forgot to mention ringing of the years but that has subsided just recently with nourish essence supplement.

I have seen two acupuncture doctors and one naturopath doctor. They all diagnosed me with parasites, fungus, bacterial overgrowth, especially candida, and weak organs, especially my liver and gallbladder. Every time they would treat me for that I would get a sense of being normal again for a short time then the symptoms would come back. Fatigue, memory problems, abdominal pain, ect. So I believe I do suffer from what they diagnosed me with due to all the years of taking antibiotics. What is making it hard for me to recover from this is, I believe, the Cipro due to causing damage to many organs. Maybe it affected my mitochondria like some articles I found said. I am not sure exactly how the Cipro affected me unless I get tested for mitochondria dysfunction or other delicate test that I really don’t have the money for. All I know is that I am not the same after taking Cipro and it changed my life. So that’s why I am glad I found this website that lets me try what others did that helped. Hearing other people’s testimonials convinces me that Cipro does damage a whole lot more than just gut flora. Also a big thanks to Lisa for her extensive research.

So now let me get to what helped me in detail.

Diet: Right after being floxed the second time I was on a no sugar and plenty of healthy fats diet, also known as the ketogenic diet, for about 10 months. I believe that is what caused my hypothyroid apart from the Cipro. I read from a source that having no sugars in your diet can put a lot of stress to your adrenals. Apart from that my acupuncture said YOU NEED SUGARS! So he put me on a low glycemic diet. So now my diet is based off non starchy vegetables, proteins such as eggs, lean meats like chicken and beef, and 1 to 2 servings of low glycemic fruits a day. I try to go for organic as much as I can afford. He said this is his method of controlling candida. Usually he would put his clients on a no sugar diet for a while until the candida is controlled but in my case he said I need the sugars especially because I work out. so the best bet would be low glycemic. Compared to just veggies and proteins, my current diet works better for me. My latest blood work shows my thyroid levels are normal so I will take that my diet helped with that. Ginger and turmeric teas are also part of my diet. Yes once in a while I do “Pig out” but I do suffer afterwards lol. So I try to keep it at a minimal.

Exercise: This helps a great amount. Before I got floxed for the second time I used to hit the gym for 2 hours. I was a boxer so I had great stamina and could run 5 miles or more like nothing. Now my body cant handle stress like it used to so I keep it moderate. I am glad that I can go to the gym now. Il hit the gym 5 to 6 times a week for only 30 to 45 minutes. I balance it with cardio and weight lifting. Some days I focus on stretching yoga style. I believe this also helped my hypothyroid. Sometimes I will go to the gym in the mornings to do cardio for 20 minutes and then lift weights for about 30 minutes in the afternoon. This way I find it to be a big help for my fatigue. Some days my fatigue is horrible where I go in to work late because I cant get up. It feels like I had a crazy night and woke up with a hangover. But there is some days where I have small fatigue and I could shake it off with just brushing my teeth.

Supplements: Currently I am taking Floracor GI which contains probiotics, enzymes for digestions, and helps control candida. Nourish essence from Golden Flower Chinese herbs which helps me with energy and revive my liver and kidneys. I just started a supplement called clear mind and is said to help my brain fog and anxiety. I will give an update on this one later. All of these supplements were given to me by my acupuncture and they are helping a lot. These are Chinese herbs supplements and had my acupuncture look after me while taking these supps. I recommend people to have a doctor to look over them while taking these types of supplements. I am also taking Calm Magnesium at night to help me sleep. Vitamin D 5,000 I.U and Vitamin K.

Other supplements that I believe have helped are milk thistle for support and healing of the liver. Antifungals. Tissue salts. Vitamin B complex. I did take Iodine for a while but it made me feel ill at times. So I just passed on it.

Acupuncture: I get at least 2 sessions of acupuncture a month. It helps me relax and relieve stress. I believe a good acupuncture doctor can help with calming the nerves.

Its been a little over a year since the second time I got floxed and I have learned a lot. I am not the same as I was before but I am in a state where I can work, help out around the house, and be more active overall compared to a year ago. I believe in the power of prayer and I believe God has helped me. I hope my healing continues and hope I get to help others in the future. Not just the people who got floxed but others that are ill and MDs have no clue on what is going on with them.

Tony, so glad you found an acupuncturist and ND. After being thrown under the bus by a dozen allopaths, I finally started getting help from a naturopath. RE the mitochondria, there is something called mitoq…VERY expensive, but they offer a three month trial, and if you don’t feel it helped after that, they will refund all but around $20. You might want to look into that.

Thanks L i will look into it I just started a supplement called Coral CellEnergy H2. On the first pill I felt the effects right away. Energized but calm. Hopefully this helps.

    Hi Tony,
I too suffer from severe insomnia and ringing in the ears. Between the ringing and the neck and joint pain, sleep has become nearly impossible since November 2017.
I am hopeful, as I have recently begun acupuncture and am interested in the Chinese herb that you mentioned! I will try anything to rid myself of the the ringing,as it is nearly driving me insane.
    Good luck on your journey.

Tony, how long did you have ringing in your ears? Was it pretty severe? Do you think that the Nourish Essence helped a lot with the ringing? Is it gone or a lot more quiet now? So glad you have mostly recovered!! May you continue to full recovery!! I am almost at 11 months and have made pretty good improvement but still dealing with the tinnutus! Just wanted to know more about your ears and the if you really saw a significant improvement after using Nourish Essence??

      • Tony April 10, 2018 at 4:05 pm Reply

Hey Dee, I’ve had it since i got floxed the second time. My acupuncture dr gave me the nourish essence about 3 months ago and it helped alot. You can google the product and find it under eastern currents website. Shows the indications for that supplement. But like i said before have a specialist or someone experienced with herbal supplements to look over you when taking these types of supps.

        • Dee April 10, 2018 at 4:35 pm

Thanks Tony!! I will look into it!! Is your tinnitus gone?? Was it pretty severe??

      • Tony April 10, 2018 at 5:24 pm Reply

Not completely. I’ve only had it twice since I started the supplement. But very mild where its faint and last about 5 seconds. Thats better than when I would get everyday and loud.

        • Dee April 10, 2018 at 5:40 pm

Wow!! That is a huge improvement! That supplement obviously really worked for you!! I would have to find an acupuncturist that knew about herbs! Where do you live? Did the supplement help your brain fog also? I am also still dealing with that some. Kind of spacey feeling everyday! I think the brain issues take longer to heal!!

      • Tony April 11, 2018 at 7:20 am Reply

It brought my energy levels up. That did help a little with the brain fog. I live in Texas but the acupuncture Dr I go to is in Las Cruces New Mexico. Its about an hour drive from where i live but well worth it.

        • Dee April 11, 2018 at 9:32 am

Tony. Thanks for the info on the nourish essence and your continuing recovery!! We all have to keep seeking answers! One last question. Did the probiotics you took really make a big difference in your GI issues? Anything else you did that you felt healed your digestion? Do you feel your stomach is healed now? Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions. I truly do appreciate it!!

      • Tony April 11, 2018 at 1:53 pm Reply

No worries Dee. Yes the probiotics helped me as well. What I do to help my digestion too is separating my foods. I will eat veggies and proteins together. Veggies and carbs together. Fruits alone. I try not to mix proteins and carbs in one sitting. I read from a source that this brings less stress to your digestive system. The probiotics that I take, floracur GI, also has digestive enzymes.

    • Tony April 10, 2018 at 4:02 pm Reply

It did help me and ask your acupuncturist about it. I recommend for this type of supplement to be taken under supervision.

Tony, what helped you the most with candida? Do you feel the Floracor GI was huge or antifungugals? What antifungugals did you take and/or what do you feel did the trick in healing your gut and candida?? Thanks!!

    • Tony April 26, 2018 at 8:49 am Reply

Hey Dee, How is your recovery going? Yes the Floracor GI is working great. still taking it. Currently my acupuncturist put me on Phellostatin said to also help rid of fungus and candida. The abdominal pain I was having has not come back so thats how i know its working. The way my acupuncturist explained to me how fungus or candida work is they move when you start treating it. He proved this to me by treating my pain. So i was having pain in my liver area. He treated that with needles and the supp herbal essance and floracor GI. Then by two weeks the pain in the liver area vanished but I started having pain in the spleen area. He said it could be pancreas or the spleen of even the intestine. He treated that again with needles and this time only floracor GI. A week later the pain went away. I still suffer from fatigue but he said that could be either toxins from the die off or the antibiotic so he gave me LIver Care which helps get rid of toxins. Also started taking PQQ and COQ10. I layed off it because it is a powerful nootropic and I started getting headaches. So il probably do a few days then lay off and then back again.

    • Tony April 26, 2018 at 9:01 am Reply

Diet is also helping. Sugars feed fungus and candida. But he said I need sugars so he said to be on a low glycemic diet.

      • Dee April 26, 2018 at 10:35 am Reply

Hi Tony! Thanks for getting back to me with the info about candida and gut healing. You are lucky to have a trusted and knowledgeable acupuncturist! I don’t have that by me so of course won’t try the Chinese herb treatments without a knowledgeable person to guide me! I will try the Floracor GI and see how that helps me! I don’t know if I have a serious candida problem but I think I am maybe developing it based on certain symptoms. Treating all of this mess is like walking through a maze!! I would like to try the nourish essence for my tinnitus which drives me crazy but again I have no guidance! I am improving little by little and day by day. I mainly desk with pulsating tinnitus, early morning insomnia and anxiety and some brain fog. I am about 11 months out from taking 7 500 mg Cipro pills do I only took 3 and a half days of a 10 day prescription! I know this recovery can take usually up to 2 years (unless very severe) so I am hoping for more healing to come soon! My biggest concern is my tinnitus!!

        • Tony April 26, 2018 at 12:26 pm

My hopes are high Dee, keep doing what you can. What Ive learned from many fellow floxies is time.

        • Dee April 26, 2018 at 12:46 pm

Tony, thank you for your responses and your encouragement. I think you are right that regardless of what you do “time” is the biggest healer for most floxies!!!

  4. Dee June 16, 2018 at 6:58 am Reply

Tony, hi! Hope you are feeling better day by day!! You mentioned you were taking a new supplement “clear mind” for your brain fog? Are you having any noticeable results with it?? What antifunguals are you taking for your stomach? How do you know if you need them? My stomach seems to always be a mess. Especially with being loose in mornings and food seems to digest too fast and goes right through me. I am having a hard time figuring out what i need to get my stomach feeling good again. I am a year out and doing much better then I was but still have fatigue, tinnitus and stomach issues. I still get some brain fog too. Just wondering if all of that is still improving for you!!! Any suggestions??

  5. Tony Martinez Jr July 9, 2018 at 3:19 pm Reply

Hey Dee. Sorry for the late reply. I don’t get notifications when someone replies. But yes feeling better by the month haha. Yes the clear mind… I was only able to tolerate it for about a week and then I started to feel funny so I stopped it. I am still seeing my acupuncturist since I am pretty much on the same boat as you. I can sleep, my anxiety is gone, joint pain is gone unless I work out too hard. But at times I do get loose stools, sometimes green, and discomfort in the liver area especially in the mid back. I can’t tolerate deep fried foods as much now. I am not taking antifungals anymore since my acupuncturist believes I have no problem with that now. He believes my liver is the problem. For some reason he said it is not functioning properly and he can’t really figure it out yet. He can only advise me to keep the low glycemic diet and he gives me supplements to aid digestion. He gives me enzymes and L glutamate. I am also still taking magnesium supplements. Ive been trying to follow something called the RCP (Root Cause Protocol). Which tries to re-balance your minerals especially magnesium. That has helped as well. I heard from fellow floxies about this that said this protocol has helped them too. If you have a facebook you will find them under magnesium advocacy group. It is an interesting group and their theory on how to fix many diseases.

Tony. Thanks for getting back to me! Glad you are still getting better as time goes on!!! All that counts is that you keep moving forward! I hope your stomach starts to improve. I did a gut cleanse and liver cleanse that has helped my stomach quite a bit! My tinnitus is more quiet but not gone yet. I am still hoping it disappears in more time! The hardest thing is trying to let go of this mentally and start engaging in life again. It is hard to start getting rid of the fear. Hopefully in time!!!! Keep the faith and keep moving forward!!

    • Tony Martinez Jr July 10, 2018 at 7:46 am Reply

Dee, glad to hear you are doing better too!.Yes cleanses have helped me as well. But little by little it comes back, the fatigue, tiredness, abdominal discomforts, and that is what my acupuncturist is trying to figure out why. Pinned pointed to my liver. But as days go by and i keep my diet decent and I see progress. I am also with you on letting go of this mentally, The fear of going through it all over again is the worst. Prayer has helped. Not going to lie but this experience has got me closer to God and I believe that has helped as well. Thank you Dee. Keep moving forward as well!

      • Dee July 10, 2018 at 8:08 am Reply

Tony, quick question. Is your tinnitus still gone? Do you think it left because of the herbs you took or just time? Mine has gotten quieter but still remains. I am encouraged at least that it is more quiet and will hold out hope that it will eventually disappear!!?? Also are you gluten free nad or dairy free? That can really make a difference with your stomach. I have considered trying Restore and or colostrum? Have you tried either product? The other Toni who wrote a recovery story had a lot of GI problems and swore by Restore. I have tried to write her and ask questions but she won’t answer back on her story? Just wondering if you tried either one of those products? I appreciate you getting back to me!!! Every little bit and every positive word helps us recover!

        • Tony Martinez Jr July 10, 2018 at 8:29 am

My tinnitus still comes but very faint and rare. I think the last one I had was about a month ago and was really faint and lasted for about 30 seconds. I haven’t been taking the herbs anymore so i believe within time it will go away. I’ve tried colostrum last year and it did help a little. I only noticed less gas from taking it. About your tinnitus issue how about you try something called an adrenal cocktail which supposed to aid your kidneys and adrenals. Its very easy to make. I make mine with fresh squeezed lemons then i diluted with water. Then add 1/4 teaspoon of celtic sea salt and 1/4 teaspoon of cream of tartar which is potassium. There are many ways to make this but this one works for me. The people who recommended this say to take it at 10 am and 2 pm on empty stomachs. I take it in the morning before breakfast. The purpose for this is to help balance electrolytes since magnesium takes up a lot of them.

        • Dee July 10, 2018 at 8:50 am

Tony. Thanks for the recipe! I will try it! Has it helped you with anything? Do you think it helps with your tinnitus or anything else? Just wondering if you noticed any changes? I am trying 2 products for my stomach by ortho molecular. They are suppose to help repair your stomach? SBI protect and Glutashield. I’ve been o them for a couple of weeks. I will let you know after taking them for a month if I have some success? Ortho molecular is a really good company used by homeopathic, naturopaths, chiropractic etc so will be interested if they help me. We gotta keep trying!!! I’m still debating about trying Restore?? I’m wondering if you have Leaky gut that still hasn’t healed yet versus liver problems? Leaky gut can take a long time to repair!

        • Tony Martinez Jr July 10, 2018 at 8:30 am

the whole adrenal cocktail is about 4oz. so you would dilute the lemon juice with water until its about 4oz.

        • Tony Martinez Jr July 10, 2018 at 9:05 am

Yes let me how that works out for you. I believe my tinnitus was due to weak kidneys since my doc treated me for that and that’s when I started having less ringing of the ears. So this adrenal cocktail aids the kidneys and I believe this has helped my tinnitus too. Helps with hydration as well. One reason you can have leaky gut is due to the liver not producing enough enzymes to digest foods so might as well treat both haha. So this is how my acupuncturist pinned it to my liver. I had a Subconjunctival hemorrhage not to long ago. Had a ophthalmologist take a look and couldn’t find out what was the cause. Said that it looks like its growing. She told me that if I dont see improvement in 3 weeks she would like to look at it again. Went to my acupuncturist and right away he said its my liver. He is still treating my liver but for the time he has my eyes have gotten whiter than ever!

        • Dee July 10, 2018 at 9:45 am

Tony. Glad to hear your eye is better!! I am curious how your liver would cause the eye hemorrhage?? I guess nobody really knows the cause but sounds like your acupuncturist feels it is your liver? I’m just wondering why you have your liver issues at such a young age? Maybe all the antibiotics in recent years? I think your story mentioned that you took ALOT of antibiotics? Have you had medical tests or blood work done for your liver to see exactly what is going on?? The good news is that you are young so you have a great chance to bounce back from all of this!!! You will repair and hopefully you can pinpoint more what is going on with your stomach and or liver? Do you feel mostly recovered and back to normal now? I am a year out and have really improved over the past year but still have these lingering issues. I think it took you about 16 months when you wrote your recovery story? Do you feel like you have continued to make improvement from when you wrote your story?

        • Tony Martinez Jr July 10, 2018 at 10:25 am

LOL RIGHT. at age 29 with liver problem really blows. The last test I got was last year and came out with high enzymes but CT scans showed nothing but a normal liver. Eh maybe it was the hardcore partying that i did in my younger years on top of the antibiotics. Yea my acupuncturist is really knowledgeable of how the body works in a holistic matter. The way he determines what part of the organ is not working properly is symptoms plus feeling certain muscles. For example. When he pokes my upper right back near the shoulder blades it feels really tender. That tells him the liver is not working properly. I think he said the toxins build up in certain muscle parts where the organ does not process them correctly. Need to ask him again. But he has various techniques. He even got mad at me because I told him its the parasites and He told me to get that out of my head because that is not the problem lol. Yes mam I do feel a lot better. I can still go to the gym 5 times a week. Ive gained 15 lbs of muscle mass. From 135 to 150 lbs. My thinking is a lot better but foggy at times.. I dont have anxiety attacks anymore. I am more stable now since I wrote my story and yes I was about 16 months post flox. Now I am at 19 months. So all we can do is keep moving forward with hopes to recover and live a long normal life. Keep in touch Dee, we can get through this.

        • Dee July 10, 2018 at 11:27 am

Tony. The important thing is that you are continuing to improve! That is great news!! And you are young so that is an added bonus!! I am 62 so know I will “probably” take longer to heal! Thanks for chatting and taking time to give me info and hope! I will keep you posted on how things are going with my stomach repair! Onward and Upward!! May we heal soon!!

H how did you hallucination stop and what was your hallucination?

    • Tony Martinez Jr September 12, 2018 at 2:49 pm Reply

Hey Tina, Within a few days after the last pill I took. Didn’t do anything special but let time pass since I didn’t really know what was going on with me. I was seeing my self being torn apart. As if my body wanted to pull its self apart and my mind was telling it no. I was seeing dark figures surrounding me. Suicidal thoughts would cross my mind. The feelings it self was the worse.

  8. Dee September 22, 2018 at 7:38 am Reply

Hi Tony! I have chatted with you before and you always gave me hope and encouragement!! I really appreciate your helpful suggestions and support. I was just checking on you to see if you are still doing better and improving! Last time we chatted you were getting more and more better week by week! I hope that is continuing for you! I’m now 15 months out and have come a long ways. I am still battling with my stomach (loose in the mornings) and a very early wakeup with anxiety and tinnitus ramped up some. I think my adrenals are a little whacky which causes me to go into an early morning overdrive which seems to calm down during the day. Still a little foggy but again it has improved from day one. I was in pretty bad shape the first several months so everything is moving forward. I think it is mostly my nervous system still trying to heal!? I guess for many floxies it can take about 2 years to really feel mostly normal again? Did you have any issues with your nervous system or adrenals?? If so, is there anything that helped you? I hope you are doing better each and everyday Tony! Blessings…

    • Tony Martinez Jr September 26, 2018 at 7:42 am Reply

He Dee! All is well. Yea am still going through the pain I get where the liver is located. Its becoming less though. My acupuncturist is still looking after me. He also says that my adrenals seem to take a hit at times so he put me on a supplement called adrenal d stress. works really great for me in the mornings for energy. It does have DHEA hormone but he told me to only take it in the mornings when you do feel weak or tired. The bottle recommends 3 pills through out the day but that one in the mornings seems to do the trick for me. As for nights if I feel my adrenals going out of whack I take the lemon water with Celtic sea salt and cream of tartar and a magnesium glycinate pill.. Works well for me. I also believe that I might have some nerve damage where it is affecting the way my liver works. Like my brain and liver are not communicating well, My acupuncturist also put me on a supplement called memory pro. It is to help with nerve function and it does help even my liver pain goes away! but I could only tolerate 1 to 2 pills every 2 days. If i take more than that I suffer from what seems to be die off effects. achy joints, feeling of coldness, and sometimes fatigue. Since taking memory pro my sleep has been better. I even have vivid dreams at bit which shows me that i am going into deep sleeps.

      • Dee September 27, 2018 at 6:36 pm Reply

Hi Tony! Glad to hear you are still improving! Sorry you are still experiencing liver pain though. Although you say it is getting less so hopefully with a little more time it will all disappear for you!!! Aren’t you close to being 2 years out now?? Do you feel pretty normal in most ways and lead your life like you want to? do you feel your lemon juice cocktail helped your adrenals a lot?? Do you take it once or twice a day? I haven’t tried it yet?? I sure hope your liver continues to get better. Since it has already made improvement it sounds like it is slowly healing!! You are lucky to have such a knowledgeable and helpful acupuncturist! D

        • Tony Martinez Jr September 28, 2018 at 1:25 pm

Hey Dee. Yes mam 2 years in the last days of December. I feel normal I guess cause am figuring out how to treat my symptoms with supplements thanks to my acupuncturist. My hopes now are to no rely on supplements and just diet. But who knows. I shouldnt be complaining about every single symptom I get but sometimes it just gets to you. The lemon cocktail is usually once a day and at night. I dont feel like I need it in the mornings since I use the adrenal D stress. Are you still getting ringing of the ears?

        • Dee September 28, 2018 at 5:17 pm

Tony, yes I still get some tinnitus. It is the throbbing pulsating kind and it has a mind of its own. It bothers me mostly when I am going to sleep and for sure early in the morning as it usually wakes me up. Overall it is quieter then it was the first few months but hasn’t disappeared yet. I hope it will go away!? I guess I need more time?? I’m 15 months out now sooo I guess I have to be more patient?? So do you drink the lemon juice cocktail for your adrenals or is it for something else?? I’m glad that you feel mostly normal! I totally understand eventually getting off all the supplements! I take a truckload myself and I’m tired of popping pills and it is so expensive too!! I hope your liver pain gets better soon!! You did say it has improved though??

        • Tony Martinez Jr October 1, 2018 at 9:41 am

Yes, mam. My liver pain has improved. The lemon water cocktail I do take it for my adrenals. Found the recipe from a Magnesium page on Facebook which some other floxies recommended me to. Morely Robbins is the person who started this page I believe. It supposed to help with energy but for some reason it gives me a calm effect According to this facebook page it also helps with magnesium distribution so I take the magnesium glycinate which gets me sleepy. If i am lucky I get a whole 6 hours of sleep with out disturbance. Ive been studying a little more in Traditional Chinese Medicine and ringing of the ears could come from kidneys or liver imbalances. Hopefully you find something that could help with that. I am starting to think that most of my problems are from neurological disorders. My acupuncturist treats my symptoms and I feel fine for a few days and then they start coming back. So he pin pointed it to my liver where the problem is but he cant figure out why. He says that it might be the brain and liver communication. So when he gave me the memory pro which helps with neuron communication I feel happy! I feel my self again for only a few hours. I even get a warm feeling in my stomach. It is so weird. I found that one of Cipro side effects is CNS damage and even Liver Dysfunction. So it just maybe that. Haha its insane what this little drug can do to someone.

        • Dee October 1, 2018 at 3:42 pm

Tony. One last question and then I will give you a break! I have your lemon juice recipe you have me. You told me you mix ingredients in about 4 oz of water. How much lemon do you squeeze? Full lemon, a third, a half??? I have the quantity of Celtic sea salt and cream of tartar. Wasn’t sure how much lemon to squeeze?? Yes you are right that FQs can damage the CNS. I know I probably have some CNS damage but I also think with more TIME the nervous system will slowly heal and balance out. 🙏🏻🙏🏻 Hopefully you continue to improve which I’m sure you will. Bring young is in your favor too!! Thanks for helping me out with your info!!! D

        • Tony Martinez Jr October 2, 2018 at 9:08 am

Do half a lemon and 6 to 8 oz of water. Unless you can tolerate the acidic substance haha. I know I said 4 oz before but it becomes to acidic for me so 6 to 8 oz work for me. 1/4 teaspoon of celtic sea salt. Cream of tartar calls for 1/4 teaspoon but sometimes i cut it into half because my diet contains alot of potassium already. so if you feel a little wired after the cocktail then cut the cream of tartar into half of the 1/4 teaspoon. And no worries Dee am here to give feedback to whom ever asks.

        • Dee October 2, 2018 at 10:20 am

Thanks Tony!! I will give it a try!! Appreciate your getting back and caring enough to help. I hope you continue to improve as I’m sure you will!! I get scared that I won’t get all the way better. I wish I could get past the fear….it is a hard emotion to let go of surrounding all this. A big hug to you!!

        • Tony Martinez Jr October 2, 2018 at 12:15 pm

Thank you, Dee and likewise. Just keep having hope!

        • Tony Martinez Jr October 16, 2018 at 1:29 pm

Hey Dee, just wanted to stop by and see how the lemon water recipe worked out for you.

        • Dee October 16, 2018 at 4:13 pm

Hi Tony! That is so nice of you to check on me!!! Thank you!! Well I got all the ingredients and then didn’t try it yet. Who knows why I put it off???? Anyway I still want to try it!! You said it should help my adrenals right?? And to start by taking it once a day in the morning? I will start tomorrow!! How are you doing? I hope everyday is a better day for you!!! Still kind of battling with early wakeup, urgent and multiple bathroom visits first thing in morning and the pulsating (throbbing) tinnitus. The tinnitus is much more quiet then a few months ago but not gone. Every now and then I have a morning that is more normal but not very often. I guess and I hope my mornings will get calmer so I can sleep in a little and not have to awaken to run back and forth to the bathroom! This is crazy stuff that’s for sure! Sure hope you are having mostly good days!!!!

Tony, also do you still take the Floracor GI and does that make a difference for you? And do you eat regular meat or antibiotic free meats? I eat antibiotic free but once in awhile if I go out I would like to try whatever the restaurant is serving. I’m thinking after 16 months that regular meat now and then would be ok????

    • Tony Martinez Jr October 17, 2018 at 9:03 am Reply

Hey Dee, yes this cocktail is said to support the adrenals and am doing well. Nothing out of the ordinary. If your symptoms are becoming less it looks like your body is balancing out. Getting better. No I dont take Floracor GI but i still take food enzymes. 1 to 2 pills a day so it is very minimal. I try to eat organic meats but its not a daily thing, so its a mix of regular and organic meats. There was a time when I did eat organic meats only. But I didnt really see a difference in getting better symptom wise. But I still try to eat clean and organic as possible.

Tony. Thanks for getting back. I appreciate all that you do to help me out on this long journey and recovery. It is floxies like you that because you take the time to care you make a difference in giving hope and reassurance. Thank you for that. What brand of digestive enzymes do you take? I’m starting the lemon cocktail today so will give it some time to help. Was there a time frame when you noticed a difference? Glad you are still doing well! Is your liver pain improving??

        • Tony Martinez Jr October 17, 2018 at 12:36 pm

Not a problem, Dee. The world works better when everyone helps each other. The digestive enzymes i use are food enzymes from Nature’s Sunshine. Its very basic, nothing fancy. I felt a bit more calm on my first cocktail withing minutes. So hopefully you feel the effects right away. I believe most of us, even non floxies, lack minerals and the celtic sea salt helps with replenishing some minerals. I’ve also read that taking a lot of magnesium can deplete potassium and other minerals if not having a proper diet. This is why I was intrigued about this cocktail. It does help me and I hope it does the same for you. I am a believer that balance is key.

        • Dee October 17, 2018 at 2:49 pm

Awesome! Thanks Tony!! I will update you as I go along. Glad your liver pain is improving! That’s one more step to full recovery!!! 🙂

        • Tony Martinez Jr October 17, 2018 at 12:44 pm

and yes my liver pain is improving 🙂

        • Tony Martinez Jr November 12, 2018 at 2:48 pm

Hey Dee! Looking in to see if you have tried the lemon water cocktail?

        • Dee November 12, 2018 at 3:25 pm

Hi Tony!!! Well the answer is yes and no. I tried it but wasn’t consistent with it everyday. I went to our mountain house a couple of times and forgot to take the ingredients with me. Soooo couldn’t tell if it was making a difference. Question for you….did you take it in warm water or cold??? On an empty stomach or after eating? You mentioned you only did it once a day later in the day right? So when you were good and took it everyday like I am “supposed” to be doing how long was it before you noticed a difference? And what changes did you notice? Sorry for all the questions but wasn’t sure if I was doing it right and what to look for on changes. I have used cold water, about 1 cup with 1/4 tsp cream of tarter and 1/4 tsp Celtic salt. Correct? How are you doing Tony??? Still continuing to improve I hope🙏🏻🙏🏻 I have thought about you and meant to post to you but didn’t get the chance. You are so very thoughtful.

        • Dee November 12, 2018 at 4:09 pm

Tony. One more question. I am 17 months out. I think about the same time you were when you wrote your story. One of the biggest things I deal with is just plain worry. Wondering if these lingering symptoms will ever go away. It stresses me out. My ears are more quiet then they were a year ago but they still constantly buzz. A low buzz. It drives me bananas and I mostly notice it going to sleep and waking up of course. That is the most “constant” symptom. Of course I fight with insomnia and early wakeup although much improved and morning urgency and loose bathroom etc. how did you carry on and keep moving forward without worry and stress. I worry about fully healing, I worry about a relapse. Did you find a way to cope with that better?? I feel very stuck in my recovery progress at this point in time. Did you ever feel that way? I made so much improvement during the first year and now I feel like it just isn’t moving anywhere although it probably is. I’m just frustrated and a little scared too. I thought you might have some insight as you seem to have kept getting better since writing your story. Thanks Tony for listening and hearing me out. I know you have been in my shoes too

  10. Dee November 14, 2018 at 7:34 am Reply

Tony, sorry for all the questions. I decided to drink a cup of warm lemon juice when I wake up and I am adding the 1/4 tsp of Celtic salt, cream of tarter and a little Manuka honey. What do you think about that? I have read that warm lemon water in the morning helps your kidneys so I figure why not combine in your cocktail ingredients? How are you doing? I hope well and also still getting better day by day!!! Thanks for helping me out and caring. YOU make a difference in caring enough to give back.

  11. Dee November 21, 2018 at 8:11 am Reply

Tony. I hope I didn’t scare you off with all my questions? I mainly wanted to know how you are doing and hope week by week you are still continuing to improve. I have now taken the lemon water cocktail for over a week in the morning using warm water. I haven’t noticed a lot of change but wasn’t sure how long it took and maybe take it twice a day??? Hope you are doing really well!!!!

    • Tony Martinez Jr December 3, 2018 at 6:00 pm Reply

Hey DEE. No you didn’t scare me off. I just recently got a new job and the transition has been hectic haha. But all is well. Still taking a few supplements. Adrenal D stress for my adrenals once sometimes twice a day and food enzymes. The cocktail sometimes before bed with a magnesium glycinate pill. Really does help me sleep. I had my first beer last week just to test my body and I responded well. Got a little gasy but that was it haha. I still have some bad days where I feel grogy and tired but nothing I cant handle. Yes the cocktail should help you with at least some energy. Do you feel more alert when you take it?

      • Dee December 7, 2018 at 8:54 am Reply

Hi Tony!! That is great to hear that you are doing well!!! Would you say you feel mostly recovered now?? Congrats on your new job!! Drinking a beer and doing ok with it is great too! I’ve always been a wine drinker and since being floxed I have the opposite reaction to wine and instead of calming me it ramps up my anxiety, heart rate and tinnitus! Sooo I am waiting to recover more before trying wine again. I’m thinking of waiting for the 2 year mark?? Aren’t you about 2 years out? When you were earlier in floxing and drank beer before how did you react to it?? Glad you can have a beer now!! That shows how much you are still getting better!! I am not sure if I feel much different on the lemon cocktail?? I drink it in the morning warm. Maybe I should try it later in the day too?? I don’t have problems “falling” asleep but mostly staying asleep and waking up extra early in the morning a little anxious. I’m slowing improving a little bit at a time. Being 18 months out I do have days when I feel pretty good and other days when things act up!! Didn’t that go on with you too at 18 months?? I hope that now almost all your days are good!!! Thanks for checking on me! “Always” appreciated!!!!

        • Tony Martinez Jr December 12, 2018 at 9:28 am

Hey Dee. Yes I had the same problem as you for a while. I want to say I slowly improved with the help of my acupuncturist and magnesium. I feel much better but I still get easily sick at times. For example my eyes is getting red again and it got infected.. Taking care of it with the help of my acupuncturist and the swelling is down now. So I still have a few problems but my energy and feelings have come to be normal I would say. The 26 or 27th of this month will make it 2 years post flox. I believe what helped improve my energy levels adrenal D stress. It supports and heals your adrenals. Might want to look into it, Dee.

  12. Dee December 14, 2018 at 3:26 pm Reply

Tony, it sounds like you feel mostly back to normal!!! That is great!! I’m sure that our immunity system is more compromised after getting floxed and with more and more passing time we will build up more immunity and resistance again!!! 🙏🏻Hopefully!!! You are really lucky to have a really good acupuncturist to help and guide you!! I live in a more rural area of CA so don’t have much access to good alternative Docs. I wish I did!!! I just do my best getting info from floxie hope and try to use common sense! Is there a certain brand of adrenal D pills you take and what dose do you take? How often are you drinking your lemon juice now?? I asked you before but was just curious when you drank a beer earlier in your floxing how did you react?? I sure would like a glass of wine again!!! I think my ears might be getting a little more quiet???? Just really hard to tell as it is happening so slowly! Hope your eyes are completely better now!!

    • L December 14, 2018 at 7:49 pm Reply

you’re lucky your ears are quieting down. Mine seem to be getting louder. But about the wine…..

After first being floxed I stopped wine, coffee, chocolate…all the good stuff. I didn’t care at first because I was so sick nothing appealed to me anyhow. But after about 1 1/2 years I added (one at a time) all three back in. I had not problems with any of three, and it was the first time (even though I still had so many issues) that I felt like I was doing something from my “old life.” Of course we are all different. But for me…I had no problems. Do only get organic in all of them, and I may have mentioned before, I get organic wine from spain. I do that only because I figure the grapes would not have been grown in fluoridated water. But there are times when I have been somewhere and they only had domestic, non-organic wines, and I have gone ahead and had a glass with no issues. I wouldn’t make a habit of it.

I even got brave a couple years out and had some single malt scotch, and I enjoy that from time to time as well.

    • Tony Martinez Jr December 15, 2018 at 12:25 am Reply

Hey Dee, yes the adrenal d stress is from “patient one”. My acupuncturist provides for me. I take one a day and sometimes twice a day. Lemon water cocktail about once a day. Drinking one or two beers i feel fine. When I did drink beer in my earlier flox days i would feel terrible. Stomach pains, diarrhea, and basically hung over after words. Thats why I didn’t drink for almost two years.

      • Dee December 16, 2018 at 8:08 am Reply

Tony thanks for your info!! Glad you are able to drink a couple of beers now!! That shows that you continue to heal and are getting more and more back to normal!!! That is just super for you!! Like I said I was kind of thinking the same thing as far as waiting a couple of years to drink a little. Mainly because I know my gaba receptors in my brain were damaged and causes me to have a hyper reaction to anything calming which is what brought on severe tinnitus at the time I took 1/2 mg oh melatonin. Who would of thunk?? Amazing what this shit does so differently to each of us individually!! Enough to make you scared to death to take anything even supplements to help!! Anyway I drink the lemon cocktail warm first thing in the morning as I figure the lemon helps my kidneys and hopefully the salt and cream of tarter helps my adrenals??? I will keep the adrenal D in mind as time goes on. I just feel very wonky and up and down with energy, mood and anxiety. A lot of worry😩 Was there a time when you finally felt more normal and balanced?? How do/did you cope with the worry and anxiety?? I just need balance at this point in time. I feel like I am on a roller coaster!! Thanks Tony!! You have been such a support to me!!

        • Tony Martinez Jr December 20, 2018 at 11:18 am

I want to say one year after being floxed I started to feel more calm. I do experience worry and anxiety from time to time. But exercise helps and thinking positive. Magnesium Glycinate tends to help too.

  13. Dee December 16, 2018 at 8:20 am Reply

    L. Thanks for your info on drinking wine again. I actually took your advice before I bought the Spanish wine at Trader Joe!! I tried a half glass 2-3 months ago and did ok and then I tried a full glass a month ago and had a hyper reaction. Heart rate went way up and tinnitus and anxiety went crazy!! Soooo I decided my Gaba receptors were still damaged and I needed to wait longer hence I decided probably be best to wait about 2 years. I have read it can take gaba receptors about 2 years to heal?? I don’t know if you know much about that?? I sure hope my GABA repair fully and back to normal. I did read and I think Ruth mentioned that they usually will heal but of course takes time!! I’m glad you get to enjoy a glass of wine and even a drink!! I wish!! I miss my coffee and my wine!!!! For now I just feel I better play it safe!! My adrenals are a mess (early wakeup and sleep issues) so figure I am not ready for coffee either….😞😞
