Fluoroquinolones cause mitochondrial damage and oxidative stress. Mitochondrial damage and oxidative stress have been causally linked to all sorts of psychiatric disorders, including, but not limited to bipolar disorder, depression, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, anxiety, etc. Fluoroquinolones are bad for your brain. Thank you, as always, for reading and sharing information about the dangers of fluoroquinolones!
It can go away though correct? Mine is just heightened anxiety. Did you ever find that your anxiety cycled too? I know you did meditation and accupunture. Just curious. Mine was in check for about a month now back with a vengence that gets stimulated by over stimulation.
I generally have not had extreme anxiety or panic attacks in life, but definitely had it after taking cipro in the first month especially. I recognized the feeling because I had horrible anxiety/panic attacks from another medication a few years back, and it’s something very intense that if you’re not sure whether it’s what you have, you don’t have it, because you would know.
But it seems to be gone now and hasn’t come back. I attribute that to food and supplements because they affected the head in noticeable ways.
Anxiety has been my worse issue, and I suffer every day with debilitating panic attacks, pre-syncope, lightheadedness, brain fog and depersonalization. Cipro made me nervously ill. My most exteme symptoms (early 2013) were 2 near blackouts, 1 hour of vertigo, 30 minutes of vision loss and 15 mintues of amnesia (yes amnesia…me sitting in my bedroom trying to figure out where I was).
The good news is that those issues are slowly diminishing, it’s been 22 months…almost at the 2 year mark and I’m feeling as time passes my symptoms are improving faster!
