The thought that fluoroquinolones cause cellular damage and magnesium depletion to the point that they increase the risk of type 2 diabetes is frightening, for sure. There is quite a bit of evidence that dietary adjustments can influence type 2 diabetes significantly though. So, that’s a reason for some hope.

FQ and Diabetes – has anyone had any personal experience of this? Several months ago I was notified of raised blood sugar levels, and have more recently been experiencing some symptoms recently which could be general flox or specific diabetic related, tingling limbs dryness/thirst, fatigue. Needless to say I am getting this followed up pretty soon, but any thoughts from others would be helpful.

Was given cipro for a UTI. Just recently learned what my current problems are associated with. I had such bad pain in my whole body, severe thirst, suddenly pre diabetic and started putting on weight. I was a gymnast and suddenly could not even touch my toes. I had insomnia. I went on a pre diabetic diet, ate very clean, took magnesium citrate, silymarin, multivitamin, and chromium. After 2 1/2 years, I feel better. I was sick so bad, and hurt so much I was unsure what was wrong with me. It appears, I went the right direction with vitamins and diet but I did not know this was the answer. I don’t feel sick right now but I “feel” things now inside my body, like when caffeine or too many sugars are eaten, my body feels ill. I don’t know if this helps but the doctors tried to play the blame it on age, or genetics, etc. I now KNOW what this is.
Hi Carrie, I’m glad to read that you feel better right now, Can you tell me if after 2 1/2 years you feel 100% healed or you’re still struggling with something? You’ve mentioned you were a gymnast, are you able to train again? I’m asking you that, because I’ve been floxed almost 8 months ago, and the last few weeks have been the worst in this whole experience. Actually I’m scared that it’s just getting worse. I was too quite athletic. Now when the pain or the numbness in the legs are strong, even walking has become tiring.
Plus could you please share what kind of diet you went on? Right now I’m experiencing that same feeling of weakness from sugar or caffeine binge most of the time.
I was a perfectly healthy man of 50. I was prescribed cipro for a wisdom tooth extraction. After taking it, I developed infections all over my body. The worst were boils in my groin. Im in hospital now getting those treated. While Im here, my blood sugar was tested at 600. Now Im diabetic. Before cipro, my blood sugar was around 85 to 95 all the time. Cipro has completely ruined my life now, physically, and financially. This hospital visit is at 30000 dollars and counting. What really makes me sad is, no one answers for this crap. Bayer should be sued to hell and back. These doctors that are prescribing it need education, cause most of them have no idea. I better stop, Im getting furious writing this.
