I am saddened to report that Dr. Jay S. Cohen, M.D. passed away on December 6, 2015.
Dr. Cohen tirelessly advocated for recognition of medication adverse reactions, and specifically focused much of his work on bringing to light the many dangers of fluoroquinolone antibiotics.

- New Warnings for Cipro, Levaquin, and other Quinolone Antibiotics

In addition to many articles, Dr. Cohen also published several books including, “How We Can Halt The Cipro & Levaquin Catastrophe: The Worst Medication Disaster In U.S. History.”
Dr. Cohen also consulted with and helped hundreds of people who had been injured by fluoroquinolone antibiotics. He was a powerful advocate and a friend to the community and many people in it. He is missed.
From the Jay S. Cohen M.D. Foundation Web Site:
Jay S. Cohen, M.D., was a nationally respected expert on prescription medications and natural therapies. Dr. Cohen earned his medical degree at Temple University in 1971. After completing his internship, he practiced general medicine and conducted ground-breaking research at UCLA in acupuncture and pain. In 1974, he undertook a residency in psychiatry and psychopharmacology at UCSD, where he was an Adjunct Associate Professor of Psychiatry. He was Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee of the Erythromelalgia Association, and a Fellow of the American College of Nutrition.
Dr. Cohen’s interest in pharmacology led to independent research on the causes of medication side-effects that result in more than 100,000 deaths and 2 million hospitalizations each year. He noted that a substantial number of people are medication-sensitive, and, starting in 1996, published his findings in eight books and in leading medical journals, as well as articles in publications such as Newsweek, Bottom Line Health, and Life Extension Magazine. His work was featured in The New York Times, The Washington Post, Consumer Reports, Wall Street Journal, Modern Maturity, Women?s Day, and many other national magazines and newspapers. His book, Over Dose: The Case Against The Drug Companies (Tarcher/Putnam, 2001), was favorably reviewed by Publishers Weekly, Library Journal, and the The Journal of the American Medical Association.
In the course of his professional career, Dr. Cohen was featured on more than 100 radio programs across America, including NPR. He presented his findings at conferences of patients, doctors, drug industry executives, and attorneys. During the post-9/11 anthrax scare, his journal article on severe reactions to the class of antibiotics that includes Cipro and Levaquin, triggered a national debate and prompted the U.S. Center of Disease Control to withdraw its recommendation for their use in anthrax-exposure cases.
In 2002, Dr. Cohen was the keynote speaker at the Annual Science Day of the US. Food and Drug Administration’s Clinical Pharmacology Division. He debated top FDA officials on drug safety at several conferences, including those hosted by the American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, and the Drug Information Association.
Dr. Cohen made his home in Del Mar, CA for over 40 years. He was an avid lover of learning, dogs and the beauty of Del Mar. He is survived by his son Rory Cohen and daughter-in-law Alana Cohen, and a nephew, Hal Cohen.
I had the opportunity to speak with Dr. Jay S. Cohen just a few months before he passed. He was thoughtful, generous and passionate about helping those who have been hurt by fluoroquinolones. He was a wonderful advocate whose work is greatly appreciated by many.
Condolences to Dr. Cohen’s family, friends and loved ones have been expressed extensively in the fluoroquinolone affected community. I echo those condolences. The fluoroquinolone harmed community, and the world, lost a brave and beloved man when Dr. Cohen passed.
He is appreciated and missed.
Das war der Arzt den ich als erstes kontaktiert hab wegen Cipro und er konnte mir leider nicht helfen weil er schon zu schwach war…jetzt ist er tot
So Sad! May he be at peace with God forever in heaven, and may God tenderly bless and keep all of his loved ones. In Jesus name

Rest in Peace Dr Jay S Cohen, I had actually called his office to set up a telephone appointment with Dr Cohen, that is when I was told of his ” sudden passing” I was so inspired by this man, who bravely took on so many different things trying to help PEOPLE whom he knew where hurt by these medications, I just received his book in the mail today. Dr Jay you have given me so much more hope, sharing so much knowledge that will eventually heal some if not all of these horrible effects of the FQ,s causing FTS. This World lost a great Soul of a Person, full of compassion for his fellow human beings, My thoughts and prayers go out to Dr Cohens family. I will honor Dr Cohen by telling everyone I know about his wonderful Books and the wonderful person he was taking the greater part of his life studying, teaching and fighting for all of us who were harmed by these ” Atomic Bombs” May you be resting in Peace, knowing that you will be missed by thousands who greatly appreciated everything you did for them. God Bless you Jay S. Cohen, MD
Dr. Cohen was a great source of information, not only for me, but to give to others who didn’t believe or understand just how far reaching flq toxicity is. A huge loss. Thank you Dr. Cohen for your immense contribution.
Spoczywaj w pokoju, nie tylko w usa truje sie ludzi tym swinstwem.

I was shocked to hear of his death: so tragic. He was a powerful advocate for us Floxies!
I was absolutely devastated by Dr. Jay S. Cohen,s premature, tragic passing.. He was one of a very few brilliant, compassionate crusaders for victims of devastating drug companies who passed off ( knowingly) deadly pharmaceuticals to the trusting public in order to make trillions of dollars in profits to line their greedy pockets. They are to this day without concern for innocent lives, and use every powerful tool to dismiss legitimate cases of permanent , and life altering disabilities. They early on knew the disastrous dangers of fluoroquinolone antibiotics proven already in europe before putting them to the FDA commission. However due to our governments growing fear of our enemies use of biological terrorism.THEY (DRUG COMPANIES ) pushed it thru. But Crusader that he always was, Dr. Jay S. Cohen spent the rest of his life researching these deadly drugs, even up to his published “HOW WE CAN hALT THE CIPRO AND LEVAQUIN CATASROPHE-the worst medication disaster in US history. He rushed it into publication for the FDA’s Nov 5, 2015 forum– open to the public to speak for a 5 minute max. period each to tell their horror stories.. Sufferers came on crutches, in wheelchairs, . Victims who had finally resorted to suicide were represented and their stories heartbreakingly told by their anguished survivors.. We, The victims wrote out our personal horror stories and presented the volume of disasters that destroyed forever our lives to the FDA . IT was heartbreaking.. As I sat close up I literally heard an FDA panel member say out loud : “These do NOT sound like RARE occurences to me.” Her facial expression was truly one of almost shock. Bayer ( now Janssen) drug. has to this day used those words” RARE occurences of serious side effects” to justify their demands to keep these drugs on the market with NO further tests or intensive research. I deeply mourn the untimely passing of this consumer activist for the people ( the little guys like you and me.) . Yes, its David vs Goliath and barely a law firm will even listen to the victims.. God Bless YOU Always, Dr.Jay.S. Cohen., A true living example of courage, brilliance,, goodness, grace, and compassion for all humans. RIP , sir. I cry daily at your terrible , terrible loss. Thank you GOD for sending this special man to us. His presence will forever be terribly missed.,

Very well description of this great physician who helped bring to light the true toxicity of levaquin, Cipro, all floroquinolones and the corrupted relationship between companies like Johnson and Johnson and the FDA. He helped thousands of patients understand the origins of their ailments but sadly died too young before bringing out the truth of brain damage to the endocrine system. He was a trailblazer that began to change how much we must look at big pharma and FDA with critical objectivity and walk into doctor’s offices armed with the truth.
Hello,
I purchased Dr. Cohen’s book 2 years ago on Amazon Kindle. My doctor wants to read it, but Amazon no longer carries it . I cannot find it anywhere on line. Can you help me? I have been fighting FQT for the last four years.
As with many it has ruined my and my family’s life.
God Bless Dr. Cohen’s soul.
