The 21st Century Cures Act promises to make a lot more floxies. If a drug is an antibiotic, phase 3 testing won’t be required; all antibiotics will be rushed to market and hospitals will be rewarded for using the experimental drugs. New fluoroquinolones will surely be made and old ones are likely to be put back on the market. Warn everyone. This is NOT good.

Ugh. Awful, Lisa. The Consumer Reports Issue I spoke of yesterday hits on the “need” for new antibiotics, but also did point out that the overuse of current ones is what got us into this mess. And when they say consent won’t be needed if there is “minimal risk,” that’s laughable. They still claim that fluoroquinolone side effects are rare. Scary stuff.
Just what we need, in addition to becoming floxed, then *gadded, to diagnose what is wrong, side effects from any drugs rushed through may take years to get noticed! Doctors are simply ignoring patients’ concerns and brushing them off, when the complaints concern Iatrogenic (doctor or drug induced) side effects, we patients have to become adamant about having them report these to the authorities.
Due to the perseverance of some groups, this is going to break open soon, on a grand level. Too many patients harmed needlessly and irreparably. You can check the following site to find out what research has been done and how important this is to those who have been floxed! and to those who are in the process of getting worked up, they can now protect themselves!
